Fits the description when bought "sharply defined raspberry, carob and garrigue (dried herb) qualities." 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault, 5% Carignane. Still pretty tight, so decant or wait another 6 months or so.

Very well balanced on the lush-acid line, lemon-lime fruit and blossom perfume, some crushed rock, a hint of saline.

A wonderful wild ride of ruddy red fruit and whatever Ballard Canyon garrigue might be--wild fennel and sage? A zippy and delightful, carbonic, sans soufre MSG.

If anything, tasting even better now. Otherwise, same note as previous: Big and beautiful, this Grenache/Syrach blend has plenty of ripe fruit, but not too ripe, with lovely lavender notes and some earth. Packs a punch for $10 a bottle.

Same note as previous, but no party this time: Easy-going chardonnay, with just enough oak but good acid and grip. Lemon, white apricot, a hint of salinity.

Stunning Anderson Valley pinot, with the usual cherry fruit but so much structure and elegance. Wowed everyone at a dinner party and a perfect match for mushroom Wellington.

One, big, big Syrah--open it early and even better, decant. (Or hold, if you're patient.) Blackberry and boysenberry for days, some integrated oak, and a super long, pepper, baking spices, vanilla.

This Cotes de Bordeaux is serviceable merlot for a weeknight with a NY steak--tannins, dark red fruit but even more leather, violet, and some green pepper, a bit flinty.

Happy we had a second bottle, as the first I only got a taste of at a party. Wonderful value CdP, raspberry fruit but then wild herbal notes, earth, and long finish.

A lighter and lovely style of Grenache (as typical with Angela Osborne's wines), this Spear bottling also features a hint of green pepper that works, lifting the wild strawberry and violet.

A crowd-pleaser at a dinner party, it went toe-to-toe with a berry pie for fruit flavor, but then kept going--a hint of mint and earth, a whiff of orange blossom even.

A more reserved pinot than the CA ones I'm sued to drinking (no big surprise), so while there's tart black cherry fruit, there's also more soil and graphite, too.

Should have given it a bit more time to open, as it got better and fuller through the night. That said, big, bright, blackberry fruit, leather, earth, elegance, lingering finish. Great for the price.

Sure, it seems a bit like someone drew up a diagram to make this wine (haha), but it's solid enough if over-extracted for a pinot. Think of it as better Meiomi (not to damn with faint praise).

A lighter style of Roussanne (only 12% ABV), a bit more about structure and purity than knocking you out with the honeyed citrus and green melon fruit. Fine food wine--we enjoyed it with whitefish cooked with red okra, tomatoes, and peppers.

Seemed to be showing some of its age, with the dark berry fruit taking on a bit of a prune-y quality, but still complex and quaffable.

Same notes as previous: Picture perfect Santa Maria Valley (despite the SBC on the front label) pinot from Lane Tanner. Yes, lots of blackberry, but also herbal notes for what passes for garrigue in SMV, and good acidity and salinity.

OK, maybe it needed a bit of time? Like it a bit more than previous bottle, when the notes were: Maybe not as delightful as the 2019, but similar: Playful wine--floral notes, but also wild strawberry and a vivid raciness and some salinity. And check out the history of this 130+ year-old vineyard. An unusual gem.
