Too early to drink. Sweet fruit on day two; good balance. Please wait.

Great acidity: more green apple with a hint of pineapple at the back end. Still going strong. Unfortunately, the last bottle.

Probably better a few years ago, but still pleasant.

Racy and crisp at the same time. Not an ounce of flab on this beautiful mix of lemon and minerals. The perfect wine to accompany zucchini carpaccio and chicken kebabs with tzatziki.

Stunning, this is a serious wine with the weight, profile and feel of a Pinot first. I had a hard time not finishing the bottle. It will force you to rethink Champagne. Disgorged June 2018. I look forward to tasting this in a few years with more age.

Citrus--tangerine, full of zest, great length. Not the kaleidoscope of flavors that some of the other Donnhoff wines provide but good value. Great with fall and winter lunches.

A bit flabby and perhaps a hint of oxidation. It came across as being older than 2016. I wonder if it was just the bottle. Will try another.

Tons of acid....I think it might be much better with some age. A touch austere, but very well-received.

Beautiful nose, still quite young and needs more time. Explosive finish was most impressive.

Intense nose of dark cherry, strawberry and even cranberry. A touch of candied fruit on palate. While blind group started with the assumption that it was a Northern Rhone, there was split with half calling it a ripe year Burgundy. Not the most complex, but still going strong. No hurry to drink up. 12% stated alcohol.

Much better on day two: good weight and fruit with nice acidity. The acidity was absent on day one and I was a bit disappointed initially. Fortunately, the wine simply needed time.

Cherry, red fruits and plums...lively although a touch big. Hard not to drink more of this rather than waiting 3-4 years as recommended.

Tart cherry with red currant, good acidity but also plenty of fruit (a hallmark of 2017 perhaps). This is one of the first 2017 village wines I've had and I'll be getting more.

Beautiful and full of life. Cherry on the nose, tannins long resolved. Good balance. Hard to believe it was nearly 49 years old.

Grapefruit, grass and amazing acidity. Even better on Day Two suggesting this has many years ahead. But delicious even today.

Some orange color showing up in the glass hinting at Nebbiolo; very little bricking. More fruit, spice and a touch of cola on the nose than I was expecting. The Thursday blind tasting group nailed this as Nebbiolo from a cooler year, but the group was divided between less than 7 years of age or 20-30 year camp. No one called Valtellina or 17 years of age. Beautiful wine; less austere than I was expecting and no hurry to drink. Very much alive.

Some age showing up on the color, but this is still a lively and young wine with plenty of acidity as well as nice toasty brioche nose. No one blind guessed it was 19 years old.

Clearly old, but not overly bricking. Rich nose but fairly light on mouth with some tobacco, drying tannins. I've had better 70s Rioja although bottle did not seemed flawed, just unexceptional. No surprise that it confounded the blind tasting group that wandered between older Bordeaux and a Barolo.

Rich golden color. Flint and flowers on the nose, with lots of minerality but not as much acidity as I was expecting. Well liked by blind tasting group although no one identified it as Aligote.

Bright cherry fruit led some in the blind tasting group to conclude this was a Pinot, although the significant tannic structure said otherwise. A touch of iodine. This one is still very backward and needs lots of time before it is ready.

Tangy cherries with cranberries and a touch of oak and smoke. Very lively on day one, but on day two saw more tannins and less expressive. A touch of menthol and capers on the palate. Enjoyed, but not convinced this was its best showing.

Nice way to celebrate the 4th, although wine suggested I should have waited a few more years for the oak to integrate more fully. Still somewhat austere...or perhaps it needed a longer decant.

Looks like 2010 Beaujolais is really singing right now: tangy, dark fruits and a touch of tobacco...this is pure and elegant juice. The 2010s are showing much better than the 2009s I had recently.

Good, but not quite as strong as the Moulin a Vent Les Trois Roches that I had recently. Still held up well on Day 3 suggesting that this tangy, black cherry and cassis baby has a long life ahead.

Young, juicy fruit, black cherries and strawberries. Spice with a touch of cola notes on the nose. Almost Grenache-like. Pure notes. Some acidity. The blind group headed to a warm year in the Rhone. (MM's favorite).

Still young; a delicate wine with a long life ahead of it. Crisp with good acidity still present. One taster thought it lacked body and concentration and wondered if it was just a stage it was going through. Others (DD) argued to save bottles for the long haul.

Rich, mouth coating mix of tannins (the oak was present) and good acidity. Think big, powerful, muscular wine with good acidity. The blind tasting group struggled to place it as Nebbiolo, Syrah, or a Pinot from Burgundy. Many thought it was New World although the taster of the night was certain it was Nebbiolo off the bat thanks to the combination of rose hips, hard tannins and loads of acidity.

Another controversial wine (the ringer in a blind tasting vertical of Olga Raffault's Les Picasses). I had it just above the middle of the pack but imagine it needs a lot more time. Sweet fruits with lots of grip and tannin, one taster thought it was a tad overripe (although that taster tried it again on Day 2 and revised his comments saying that it had come together and seemed Medoc-like). It's clearly a bigger and more powerful wine than the Raffaults. It will be interesting to see how it evolves. One of group's quirkier tasters ranked it his number one, WOTN, without a doubt and sung its praises.

This one provoked split feelings in a blind tasting vertical. I was put off by the alcoholic nose and while I liked the structure, I thought the fruit was gone. Perhaps the best taster in the group thought it was fabulous now, but still very young. He argued in favor of great concentration---oodles of fruit to offset the ever-present tannins, but fruit was wrapped up tightly. Ripe, but taut, he argued. I hope he's right and will hold on to my other bottles.

Herbal patch meets rich fruit on the nose. Good structure: plenty of tannin and acid. Still youthful. A very Bordeaux-like wine on the palate. I kept getting cigar wrappers, dark cherries and a touch of cough medicine. My favorite of a vertical comparing '79, '89, '93, '02, '05, '10 and '11.

Too modern and polished for my taste, but has held up remarkably well after 13 years. Hot, somewhat flat finish. Still if your taste leans towards Super-Tuscans, you might want to investigate. I can imagine oodles of jam at a younger age.

Very pale, hints of green in glass but rich, mellow and resolved in mouth. Good acidity. Flinty but floral. No oxidation. Minerals and yet some tropical fruit. Very well-received by blind tasting group: either a Muscadet or Chablis, but all surprised it was 14 years old.

Just lovely and lively. Plenty of acidity to balance resolved tannins and tobacco, dark fruits and a funkiness that screams a mature Chinon. I'm glad I have plenty more of this as I suspect it will continue to evolve given good acidity and amount of fruit still present after 11 years. And to think this is the basic Domaine bottling. Wow!

Pomegranate, bugambilia and cherry on the nose, but then dirt and tannins take over on the mouth. I suspect this will continue to evolve, but very enjoyable now.
