A rich wine and particularly so in this vintage. Now fully mature and the aniseed, straw, lemon, honey and beeswax has just melted into one. On the sweet side but enough acidity to make it balanced. I’m not drinking this with a buttery roast chicken but it would be the perfect match. A perennial favourite but I think the 07 and 08 were better wines as there was more acidity to manage the richness. Will drink my last 2 bottles over the next year or so.

Top tip; drink from the biggest glass available, ideally riedel burgundy glass as it need the space to breathe.

I buy this wine in most vintages as has been a favourite since the early days. It’s very rich as ever, needs a decant at this stage and definitely a big burgundy glass. It is lovely though. Some botryitis fruit in there certainly, the nose reminiscent of Sauternes, but the palate is dry. There is a lot of everything; tropical fruit, aniseed, possibly nuttiness, beeswax. Feels a bit like a mix between a dry Sauternes and the northern Rhône. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the opulence. Pretty sure I only drink it with roast chicken these days, with which it’s perfect...

It has that Syrah spice on the nose, there’s flowers too. Fresh flowers at that. Violets too. There’s a prickle of energy on the tongue and the fruit is berries and cherries with spice. There’s lovely acidity on the finish which is pretty long. Very satisfying. Difficult to put down the glass actually... chin chin
