So good I could weep. Dried flowers and cigar box nose and then really dark cherry with a confected menthol flavour. Reminiscent of cherry flavour Tunes. More crushed flowers to finish and an everlasting freshness. It’s in a perfect place now. The colour in the glass as it ends is that beautiful orangey brown.

A typically glorious “last bottle of the case” moment last night. Perfect Sangiovese with burgundian poise. Delicious floral, sweet and sour cherries with imperceptibly soft chalky tannins. Finishes fresh, satisfying and long.

Lovely wine this. Peaches, white flowers and a touch of grapefruit pith, but mainly peaches.

Haunting wine this. Smoky nose of tobacco, marzipan, cinnamon and dried flowers. Sweet and sour black cherries and Parma violets on the palate. Long, chalky tannins. Refreshing but with a pleasantly boozy feel. Very complete and moreish.

I know it’s generally compared to Nebbiolo but I think this is closer to the other Nebbiolo clone, Xinomavro.

Delicious Pinot from morningtonpeninsula - perfect development of fruit, acidity and earthy notes. Love the murky orange colour too.

Lovely gooseberry yoghurt nose, quite grassy almost like a kiwi Sauvignon. On the palate peaches, leafy herbs, salt and oyster shell. The acidity is brisk. Still young for my tastes but impressive. In a similar style to the Patrick Piuze wines I thought.

Acidity still a bit too present, the material is all there but needs time.

The best vintage of cartology I’ve tasted. Quite rich nose of aniseed, toast and tropical fruits. The palate is so precise it makes you shudder. The acidity is pitch perfect and the concentration on the mid-palate is astonishing. There’s a honeyed beeswaxy thing on the finish alongside searing grapefruit acidity. But it’s all in balance. Seamless. Back up the truck.

Beautiful floral, violet nose. Then crunchy red berry fruit with leafy herbs and that bloody, iodine Syrah flavour. Bags of peppery, spicy energy on the finish too.

Really deep, dark fruit, with a big herbal rinse. Lingering flavours of liquorice followed the fruit and then a cool minty freshness on the finish. Seriously good.

Floral, violet nose. On the palate strawberries, cherries, cinnamon and liquorice. Soft and fresh. Almost stemmy, sappy character. Lovely orange rind acidity on the finish. Glorious.

Intense, mineral-laden, apple chewit nose. Burst of lime acidity on the palate backed with the energy of white pepper. The finish is long with salty lime rind and a touch of straw. Has that signature Dönnhoff texture too. Really delicious.

This is just lovely. I don’t need much more than this from my burgundy. When it drinks this well, village level burgundy is such a treat. Glacier cherry nose, a lovely earthiness and sour cherry acidity on the palate which continues into the finish.

Nostril hair singeing nose of spicy, boozy, floral plums but a meatiness too. There is a lovely saline edge to the fruit that is the opposite of jammy but the overriding flavour on the palate is the herbs of Southern France. There’s a lovely orange rind acidity on the finish with some raspberries too. Enough to turn me back on to CNDP

Cork buggered so had to poke it in and then decant through a coffee filter paper. Orange brown Nebbiolo colour. The nose is very tertiary. Spice, orange rind and polish. Lots of acidity on the palate and cherry spice. Nice mouth coating texture and finishes with peppery spice. Interesting more than enjoyable

Glorious, just glorious.

Pale straw colour. Herbal, dried grass on the nose. Mild botryitis, slightly dirty rotten peach notes. On the palate there is an explosion of tropical fruit and citrus acidity. Really intense, concentrated and long. The grassy, herbal notes linger on the finish. Finally grapefruit pith lingers in the mouth for minutes. You can almost chew the white pith and there is a deeply saltyness too. Ooft!

Lovely light mornington peninsula Pinot. Earthy, leafy herb and berry compote nose. Strawberries, cherries and orange rind acidity on the palate with a blast of white pepper energy and the leafy herbs come back on the finish. Juice!

Beeswax-y tropical and stoned fruits on the nose, definitely lychees in there. Both the flavour and that almost grainy texture of lychee continue on the palate before alternate waves of dark honey and pithy lime permeate your mouth on the finish. Glorious.

It is tight as hell initially but opening up a teeny little bit. Not much fruit at this point, quite saline with fierce lemon-tinged acidity. Margarita-esque... I do like the 2008 a lot so am hopeful this comes around with time

Started out quite herbal and floral with tropical fruit but quite light, but now drinking it on its own after food watching the football, the searing grapefruit acidity is to the fore and it appears to have gained weight. There is a peppery spice to go with the grapefruit and lime rind on the finish and a bit of midget gem to it too. Really rather good.

Absolutely glorious tension between unctuous tropical fruit and pithy grapefruit acidity. Posh Lilt. It’s all about energy and texture on the palate. There is peppery, almost sherbet energy but also a waxy unctuous texture. For all the excitement I get from South African Chenin, this is still the benchmark. The old man’s last vintage and a suitably glorious sign off.

Lovely herbal, kirsch, cherry nose. Lots of red cherry and strawberry fruit on the palate that never gets jammy, thanks to some herbal spice and a great lick of acidity. Really juicy wine that wears its alcohol very well. More-ish!

Lovely herbal, violet chinato-esque nose. Dark fruit and a mineral streak of tension in the palate which is really focussed and pure. There is pepper and spice and more violets on the finish. Bags of energy and so balanced. Delicious.

The back label suggest cellaring for 5-7 years so I’m right in the sweet spot, and it shows. Dark crimson but showing a lot of fine sediment from the first glass but it’s not a spoiler it’s so fine. Olive brine, vine leaf and smoke on the nose. Lovely mix of tart black currant and raspberry fruit with peppery spice on gives real freshness and energy on the palate. The finish has some pencil lead and the tannins are slightly drying in a way that makes you go back for another gulp.

Grassy flowers and not quite ripe peaches on the nose. A touch of youghurty creaminess on the palate works well with the tart peaches and there is some apple too. It finishes with pithy grapefruit and pepper spice. Lovely stuff but needs to be left alone to blossom, will leave a year or two before I try another one. I’m flirting with infanticide to be honest.

Initially quite rich but tightens up a bit with air. Dark berry and cherry fruit and an olive brine saline feel. There is a floral note to it too, violets, verging towards Nebbiolo on the finish which has a lot of powdery tannins. Changes a lot over an hour or so, which suggests this has a fair bit of time to go. Very interesting wine if not a little disjointed.

A previous bottle did have lots of reduction about 18 months ago but that was not evident here.

Delicious as usual, this is more mineral and closed than the more fruity 2016 at this stage, but still delicious honey, pear, pepper and apricot flavours. Real energy and spice on the finish. This is very promising.

Absolutely glorious. The sort of wine that makes you want to run out of the house, buy as much of it as you can and gift a bottle to all of your friends. Dried rose petals, spiced cherries, cinnamon, violets and loads of other good stuff. It’s a dead ringer for a Nebbiolo but it feels lighter, almost like a more feminine Barbaresco. It’s so fresh and I can’t quite believe it’s 21 years old. Essential drinking.

Delicious lime skin and black pepper with leafy herbs. Not the piercing excitement of 2005 but still delicious and gets better as the bottle goes down. I think this still has development. Will continue to follow the rest with interest.

Drinking beautifully now. Loads of violets and cherries initially but it is so fresh with it. Lots going on here and a really compelling drink. I decanted for 30 minutes then drank over 2 hours. This is ready. No rush but I don’t see a down side to drinking now.

Not my usual tipple but this is delicious. The oak is in check and the smokey semillon shines through. A balanced, refreshing glass of wine with real energy. Feels like it’s drinking at its peak.
