Opens up with lovely dark berry fruit on the nose. Several minutes later earth and wet stone show up. First sip had all of the above with medium tannins that need some time to integrate. Decanted an hour ahead of dinner, then served with a lamb/beef/sausage tomato sauce. The dark fruits really came out and held on for an impressively long finish. Plenty of acidity and tannin to handle the fat and protein in the sauce. Delicious. Still young, looking forward to the next bottle a few years from now.

Earth and dark fruits on the nose right after opening with hints of vanilla, clove, and orange peel. Smooth texture with well integrated tannins and nice acidity. Classic cabernet flavors, maybe brighter than your typical Napa cab.

Delicious. I agree with the previous notes, this wine definitely needs food. We drank it with braised chicken thighs that were cooked over rice with cinnamon, cardamom, garlic, and currants. Pleasant as an aperitif the next day. Crisp acidity, limestone, chalk, with bright lemon and apple.

Not happy with this bottle. Thin, too much acid, minimal flavor profile.

Keeps getting better. The végétal notes that I recall from previous bottles have diminished significantly. Now the nose gives off scents of red cherry, vanilla, subtle earthiness that is much more pleasant.

Having recently been in the south of France, this immediately evokes memories of opening a bottle in Avignon with lovely southern French cuisine. Citrus and stone on the nose with a small hint of vanilla. Palate-cleansing acidity, great food wine. Enjoyed with grilled whole branzini on one night, herb-rubbed pork ribs on another.

Wow. Opened this, then came back to it two days later. The fruit and energy were still there but even more present than before. The berry flavors really opened up and integrated with the backbone of acidity and minerality. I expected it to be good, but it exceeded expectations. Grand slam on QPR!

First impression upon opening; expansive nose, ripe dark fruits, and earth, then maraschino cherry, plum, finishing with tobacco and pencil lead. Lovely tannins, not overwhelming but clearly present.
An hour and a half later, with filet mignon, seared potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms; the nose is still wonderful dark fruits, the palate hits notes of vanilla and cassis, while still keeping the lovely fruit from opening. The tannins seem stronger but still pleasant with the filet. Lovely length to the finish. Wonderful.

Superb. Still young, needs about two hours of air before it starts to sing. Beautiful depth of flavor and mouthfeel. Moderate tannins. Paired with herb-crusted, roasted pork short ribs. Yum.

Delicious. Writing this the day after so detail is poor. Nose and palate are typical of Roger’s wines. Balanced, with delicate fruit and plenty of acidity. Served with braised lamb shanks. Excellent.

Crisp and energetic when first opened. Light red plum and bing cherry on the nose, palate-cleansing acidity. Served with roast chicken, the wine cuts the fat of the chicken beautifully. After two hours the flavors of the wine darken and the palate has more depth. The acidity and energy are still present. Excellent example of what French, and for that matter, all old world wines are; perfect with food, which is the whole point.

This punches way above its price range. After being open for 2 hours the nose cherries, vanilla, and cassis. There is some pencil lead and leather as well. When first opened, the nose was nearly absent, then vegetal, then really opened after 2 hours. The palate is all cherries, cola, plum, cassis, with some maraschino cherry on the back end. Medium tannins. Served with pan-seared pork chops and kale with bacon and shiitake mushrooms.

Really needs food. Specifically fatty food, roast chicken, sausages, braised rabbit. Red cherry and cola on the palate with a medium finish. Very enjoyable.

Wow, after giving this almost another two years in the bottle, it is a way better and more complex wine. Whereas before it was disappointingly thin at first, the characteristic smokiness and earth you’d expect from nero d’avola was present. Add to that aromas of dark fruit and a backbone of acidity, it is a lovely food wine. I’m enjoying it with some aged salami and manchego before diving into some chicken-under-a-brick!

Red cherries and plum on the palate when first opened, with some vanilla on the finish. Moderate tannins. Red fruits and earth on the nose. I’m not tasting the high alcohol or thin body that others have. Delicious with chicken seared in the pan and a tomato bread salad.

Lovely. Crisp citrus and pear on the nose with pleasant acidity and minerality with the first sip. We served it with herb-rubbed roast chicken which brought out more fruit on the palate; pear, apple, honeydew melon. Very nice, I’m ordering a case next time.

Petrol on the nose and palate immediately after opening. Nice long finish. Honey and melon show up after being open for 30 minutes. The petrol disappears after a few hours, leaving lemon, melon, and honey. Pleasing acidity. Paired well with cedar-planked salmon with a teriyaki glaze.

Superb. Served with beef tenderloin, after the Albatreti 2011 Brunello di Montalcino. Delicate cherry and cassis, followed by plums, blackberry, and mellow tannins. Easily approachable, but I’m curious as to will happen in 10 years.

Wow. Deep dark cherries and chocolate on the nose right out of the bottle. Shortly after, maraschino cherry, earth and leather. After an hour in the glass, served with pan-seared filet mignon, the depth of the nose intensifies, the palate is full of dark red cherry, vanilla, maraschino cherry, cassis, with some hints of cola and blueberry. While this is young, it is certainly lovely to drink now. I’m excited to see what will happen over the next 10-15 years.

Bright raspberry and red cherry flavors on opening. The nose is floral with notes of tea and Asian spice. It has a nice bracing acidity to it that I anticipate will go well with the braised pork shoulder that’s in the oven..... Later; the acidity of the wine cuts nicely through the fat of the pork. The nose develops notes of vanilla, cedar and earth. Similar notes on the palate as on opening, but they develop a longer finish. Really enjoyable. Nice find by Garagiste!

After a year and three months more age, this has developed some complexity and is a much more interesting wine. Red cherry and vanilla on the palate, with notes of cherry and earth on the nose. The palate doesn’t die as quickly as noted previously. Much better. Served with roast chicken.

Wow. I wish I had taken the time to make some thoughtful notes. However, I served this with family visiting and didn’t want to. Seriously good Barolo with dark fruit, earth, roasted meat and leather notes. I’ll take more time with the next four bottles.

Immediately after opening the nose is restrained, the palate tastes of raspberries and sour cherries. It gives the impression of being quite young. After a few hours....Everything mellows out, the fruits go from red to blue/black. Served with braised lamb shanks, the acidity is cut by the fat in the lamb. Nice cassis in the finish that last for a few minutes. Excellent work by Ridge.

None of the barnyard/animal shit present that is mentioned in the prior notes. Not sure why, but that’s fine with me. Lavender, blueberries, and violets on the nose, with dark cherries on the palate right after opening. After a few hours the nose adds notes of orange peel, earth, and eucalyptus. The orange peel comes through on the palate, as well as vanilla, caramel, some earth and leather. A little more fruit overall than other brunellos I’ve had. It’s a lovely wine and worked wonderfully with a bolognese sauce over bucatini.

Wow, really crisp and light right out of the bottle. The nose gives off lemon, apple and stone. The initial palate is light and crisp and echoes the flavors on the nose. I don’t find this to be particularly complex but it is tremendously enjoyable. Served with roasted cauliflower frittata.

Crisp lemon and minerals on opening with a little bit of honey and vanilla. The nose opens up after an hour to include some faint grassy notes and green apple. The palate is initially tart and bracing, with crisp acidity and minerality. It mellows with some air and shows melon, green apple, and a tiny bit of butteriness. We’ll see how this evolves over the next few years. Stood up well to southern Indian cuisine with some hot mango pickle.

On opening; Mint and earth at first followed by dark cherry. The initial palate is of vanilla, plum, coffee, with a nice fresh acidity. After an hour the nose opens up and gives an accentuation if the above flavors. The palate sweetens a bit and shows ripe cherry, honey, vanilla, and some cassis. Served with roasted duck. Superb accompaniment.

Pours a lovely ruby red. The nose is tart and almost a little grassy. I get hints of cola and vanilla as well. On the palate bright red fruit is followed by Early Grey tea and holiday spices. Served with roast duck, this wine is fantastic. Th vanilla turns to caramel, the red fruits get more depth, and the tannins integrate beautifully.

Lovely deep red in the glass. Dark cherries and earth on the nose. Initial impression on the palate is of dark cherries, vanilla, and earth, which gives way to pencil lead and tart cherries. Medium length finish. Batting way above it’s price range. Delicious. Served with beef stew on a chilly fall evening. Home. Run.

Intial impression; not much on the nose, black fruits on the palate. Very tasty. Nose opens up after an hour in the glass sending up earth and cherries. The palate expands and gives off maraschino cherry, blueberry, and stone to go with moderate tannins that complement food well. Served with turkey meatballs from Ottolenghi's Jerusalem cookbook, carrot salad and homemade pita.

Almost a year later this tastes even better. Maraschino cherry, black cherry, cassis, and earthy stone. Just superb. The funk blows off after 30 minutes of air then you can enjoy a bottle of superb aged Bordeaux. Served with chicken roasted on the grill, pan-roasted fingerling potatoes, and sautéed Brussels-sprouts greens. Yum.

I agree with the preceding tasting notes; this wine needs a little air and it needs food. This was beautiful with a tomato-based meat sauce (beef, pork, sausage, mushroom). Tasting the wine before and after dinner, it was nice but not great. It really sings with food.

I agree with the preceding notes, I drank this early to see what was happening with it. I would describe it as delicate, gentle mouthfeel, medium finish, with nice red fruits and floral flavors. I feel like it will gain some complexity as it ages, but that is purely conjecture. I'm a WS novice, so I haven't had much experience gain perspective with their wines yet.

Absolutely delicious. Gorgeous deep red in the glass with fine bubbles. Red apple and strawberry on the nose, the palate is a blend of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, stone, and sweet apples. Excellent food wine. We served it with a summer salad of fresh lettuce, corn, tomatoes, sweet peas, and broccoli to go with pan-seared ribeye (it was a rainy night...). It stood up to the steak and complemented the salad. Awesome find by Garagiste. I wish I had ordered a case!

Floral notes up front on the nose; violets, blueberries, with some bright red fruits. Similar taste on the palate, medium-bodied, not the longest finish in the world. Some earthiness comes out after an hour or so. Really did well with summer garden salad topped with grilled st am and pork from the night before. Great food wine! My wife loved it (an excellent barometer).

Delicious, especially for $18.... Light citrus on the nose and palate, followed by crisp acidity. This wine has a clean, pure style that I enjoy tremendously. Served with roasted salmon with herb butter, roast potatoes, and fresh asparagus from the garden. I drank the Domaine Dussort Vielle Vignes the night before and enjoyed it, but this is a definite step up in quality. Kudos to John Rimmerman.

Red cherry and raspberry flavors, nice acidity, has a core of earthiness and minerality that stays in the background. This is a subtle, elegant wine. At the top end of what I'd expect from a $20 bottle of Burgundy. Nice find by Garagiste. Paired with grilled chicken legs done with a spice rub.
