Lovely deep strawberry and cherry fruit, with just enough vanilla. On the palate, there are soft integrated tannins and lively balancing acidity. A very well made wine.

Needed a couple of houirs for the funk to blow off, but a nice wine, especially on the second day. A bit Burgundian for me, but needs drinking up now as it's in danger of falling over soon.

Soft strawberries and cedar on the nose, palate lacks some depth, with notes of redcurrants and slightly underripe red fruits. The acidity is right and refreshing, and the finish is short. A decent midweeker to have with a pizza or some pasta perhaps?

Intense nose of vanilla and stewed dark fruits. The palate is a mix of chocolate, leather and those dark fruits with a touch of port. The tannins are well integrated and the mouthfeel is smooth. Overall a very pleasant experience, and I would say this wine still has some legs if you can wait.

Very approachable, with vanilla and cherries on the nose, which carry through to the palate. Smooth, and able to be drunk on it's own.

Big thick and heady. This wine is quite hedonistic, with smoky leathery characteristics on the nose. Thick legs in the glass, and the palate is full of smoky cherries and soft tannins. The finish has a very grown up and slightly bitter edge which is not unpleasant. A very nice wine.

Great nose, with some petrol and straw. The palate shows crisp acidity with grapefruit and lime. The finish is long, and dry, lovely stuff.

Very good value Reisling. Lots of citrus, notably lemon lime and minerals. The finish is long, and this should last a few years yet. For £6.68 at Tesco, this is the best value wine i've had this year.

My note on the last bottle of this wine said:

"Lots going on in this wine. Pale straw in colour. On the nose, there's lime, lemon oil and blossom. The palate has lime, apples, minerality and a slight spritz. The finish is crisp with tangy acidity. I will be getting some more of this"

And to that I say Amen

Past it's best i'm afraid. Which is a shame as this has been one of my favorites over the years, but the fruit is fading fast.

Much better the first night than the second. Main features being the bright fruit, backed up with some nice acidity. Nice cherry notes on the nose and palate, but died on the second night

Some cigar box, oak and jammy dark fruits on the nose. The palate had a touch too much alchohol with a slightly hot finish. The predominant taste was of ever so slightly bitter plums. I'm a fan of Penfolds generally, but this was a midweek stand in at best for me.

Intense nose of lemon oil and some honey. First night on the palate, there was some grapefruit and lemon notes. Second night, it took on a quite pronounced apple taste. I really like Feudi Di San Gregorio's wines, and found this as yet untried (for me) grape (Greco Di Tufo) interesting but it didn't blow me away.

Lovely nose straight out of the bottle, with cherries, tobacco and red fruits. The palate needs a bit of decant time, which is rewarded with a nicely balanced wine featuring dried fruits, some herbs and lively red fruits. The acidity and tannins are in place in the right quantity, and although the finish is a bit short this as far as i'm concerned is a nice bottle.

Dark with an expressive nose of stewed prunes, coffee and blackberries. The mix of grapes is remarkably balanced and integrated, as are the acidity and tannins. The palate has blackberries, plums and brambles. Always reliable.

Big rich warm nose of blackcurrants, cigars, and a little eye watering alchohol. The palate has a big dollop of dark fruits, plums and vanilla but balanced with matching acidity, and a plush mouthfeel. The finish is a just a little hot with a touch of burnt caramel for me. Lovely wine though.

This is a really nice wine. Some age showing on the rim, the nose has some bubble gum cream and raspberries. The palate is quite earthy but with some black fruit. The mouthfeel is very luxurious and silky, and the finish is long, slightly dry, and has a lovely acidic tang. This wine is drinking beautifully now, and possibly the best value bottle I have had this year so far.

My first impression of this wine was that it was really well made. The nose suggests Cointreau, and the palate has more than a hint of tangarine. It has great balance between the sweetness and the acidity, lots of power, with lovely depth of tropical fruits and apples. It carries a lively spritz and has a thick luxurious mouthfeel. Great stuff.

I cannot better Capt Cutlass's summing up of this, so i'll just quote it:

"Crystal clear, almost no color at all. Straightforward grassy nose with green apples and kiwi fruit. Tight with crunchy, juicy acidic granny smith apples. Medium/short length with a yeasty finish and grapefruit bitterness at the end. Thirst-quenching stuff; no vineyard character but very cleanly made"

A bit dissapointing, lacking in depth both on the nose and the palate. Oversweet, and a bit confected. Tastes like a fairly cheap wine, which is exactly what it is.

Nose has lemon oil and straw. Slight spritz, with notes of slightly overripe yellow fruits and some tangerine. Lacks some freshness in my opinion. A port in a storm, but not a port I would head for again in a hurry.

Everyday Bordeaux, with some leather wood and cigars on the nose along with some plum. The fruit is a tad thin on the palate, with drying tannins. The oak masks the fruit to a degree and the finish is a short. Not as good as the last bottle.

What a find this guy was. I bought a few wines from him whilst in the Loire last year. All were very good, this was excellent. The nose has yellow stone fruits. Intense on the palate, with lemons and pineapples. A lovely rounded mouthfeel, with a long citrus finish. Great stuff!

A really beguiling nose, with some soft oak, cigars, leather and aged red fruit. The mouthfeel is very smooth, with notes of slightly fortified wine reflecting it's age. The tannins are soft and resolved, but the wine was not flabby. Drank with a roast beef Sunday dinner it stood up quite well.

Dark red, aromas of wood and sweet dark fruits. Sweet smooth mouthfeel with stewed cherries and plums. Very easy drinking, although a bit commercial and obvious for my taste. If you like this style though, i've tasted worse.

Given this as a gift, and I know it wasn't stored very well. Very orange brick rim. The nose is slightly barnyard. Nice attack, and i can see what this might have been, but the fruit has faded and has been overtaken by the acidity. The predominant sensation on the palate is underripe red currants. Shame.

Nose had cedar, cherries and leather. Smooth mouthfeel, and almost liquer like, with surpressed tannins and a thick sweet cherry finish, which flattened out on the second day to reveal more fruit and acidity. Not a wine I could drink too much of in one go, but pretty nice in small doses.

Dark red, huge nose of vanilla, and opulant cherry and plum. In the mouth, soft tannins with deep almost liquor like fruit. A big big wine, very new world, which i don't usually go for, but this is a hedonistic joy if you're in the mood.
