TN:
Very nice, but very simple pear liqueur.
Well made, clean and pure with a nice pear taste.
Not too sweet.
Maybe not good enough to drink it pure at room temperature, only with ice, but very well for blending and mixing and for in desserts and other foods. Traditionally with Slijvovica, in fruit juice, and especially as Krusko-Kava in strong coffee with whipped cream.
I am in doubt between 85/100 (simple) or 86/100 (well made, cheap and ideal for in food etc.).

Okay, at first I was too negative, since for that high price I was expecting something really good.
But second thought: the taste is not bad, so my first 60/100 was right regarding the ingredients, the far too high sugar content (83.1 gr/100ml !) and the QPR, but too negative, if you only look at the taste, so I give it a 77/100 now, but the QPR is still very bad.

Sweet children wine.
They state 'demidulce' (demi-sweet) on the label, but it is really sweet.
Not badly made. Good, but a little bit rough mousse (also artificial added ?).
Worked well with young Dutch Gouda cheese.
TN 13-01-2020:
Still enough mousse.
Nice tastes, but a somewhat artificial and a sweet children wine.
Had a depot of yeasts and more.
I gave it 79, but if they had made it less sweet, it could be 84 or 85.

Thomas Hardy & Sons, Hardys, Chardonnay, HRB, Heritage Reserve Bin, Bin No. D664, by Paul Lapsley, chief winemaker, 2015, South Eastern Australia, Australia, 13.5%.
EAN 9311043053030
Multi-District Chardonnay from the South Eastern Australia wine region.
A blend of grapes from Tumbarumba, Yarra Valley, Margaret River, Adelaide Hills and Pemberton.
All separately barrel-fermented and matured until the complicated blending trials took place with Paul Lapsley wielding the baton.
James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion:
The 1992 merger of Thomas Hardy and the Berri Renmano group may have had some elements of a forced marriage, but the merged group prospered over the next 10 years. So successful was it that a further marriage followed in early 2003, with Constellation Wines of the US the groom, BRL Hardy the bride, creating the largest wine group in the world (the Australian arm was known as Constellation Wines Australia, or CWA); but it is now part of the Accolade Wines group.
TN, 30-11-2019:
Good, balanced, a well made typical Chardonnay, but not top notch.
I was expecting more, also for the price (normal price around € 20, but it also goes for € 25 to 30).
Lacks character, has good acidity, so the necessary freshness (you can drink it at 15 to 19 DegC), but has just a little complexity and an okay length.
TN, 06-01-2020:
Still going strong, so you can keep this one for 5 to 10 years, but I do not expect much improvement.
Still good and balanced, but lacks in performance.

EAN 8410036009090
L8344019M8 (= from 2019 ?)
Made of macabeo, parellada and xarel-lo by the Metodo Tradicional with maturing for 10 to 14 months in the bottle (other sources say 18 to 24 months; the legal minimum is 9 months).
I find the Gran Selección on the label somewhat misleading. since to gain the Gran Reserva designation, the maturation period is extended to 30 months.
Well made, modern style sparkling.
No faults, but with a very light body and nearly no taste and a no brainer.
Like a good sprakling mineral water, with some alcohol.
Taste very young and more like in tanks produced / matured, than according to the traditional (bottle) method.
It has a rich, a little bit rough, but okay mousse for its price, a nice acidity, so fresh and it is a real brut.
Cheap for around € 7 to 8 normal price in the NLD, but ofcourse very mass produced.
Better spend a few euros more and get (much) more ?
But this no brainer will be liked by "everybody", so it likes parties, goes with snacks and other food or it will serve as apperatiive and/or for cleansing your mouth, before drinking some real stuff.
I find Tom Cannavan with 86/100 and Wine Enthusiast with 87/100 (but with their confusing different higher rating system) too high with their ratings.
For me R = 87 only for the mousse, no faults and being a real brut, but R = 82 to 83 for the overall.

You can taste it is a great vintage.
Very good now (bottle a few days open), balance, but a little bit too high in acidity, however overall a very nice wine. The very high 15%Abv is no problem (for me at least), since it is well integrated.

Some say it is 12 Years Old and others report dramatic changes after opening.
The eighth (socalled, since it has peat, but lesser than in the standard Caol Ila's) "unpeated" Caol Ila single malt from Diageo's Special Releases is taken from refill American Oak, rejuvenated American Oak and ex-bodega European Oak casks and is to celebrate Billy Stitchell’s pension after nearly 40 years at the distillery ofwhich the last 15 years as the distillery manager and he was following in the footsteps of four previous generations of his family, which in total worked for over 130 years at the distillery.
This year it's been bottled without an age statement and despite being 'unpeated' there's a definite smoky tang to the whisky, although less so than in previous years.
TN: It is one of my favourites in all-days very good dram.

Developed in 1824 by Dr. Siegert / Dr. J.G.B. Siegert / Dr. Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert (1796–1870).
Angostura bitters is a concentrated bitters (herbal alcoholic preparation) based on gentian, herbs and spices, by The House of Angostura in Trinidad and Tobago. It is typically used for flavouring beverages or, less often, food. The bitters were first produced in the town of Angostura (now Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela), hence the name, but does not contain angostura bark. The bottle is recognisable by its distinctive oversized label.
'Angostura' is Spanish for 'narrowing', the town of Angostura having been located at the first narrowing of the Orinoco River.
The recipe was developed as an illnesses curing tonic by a German physician, Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert (1796–1870), whos was surgeon general in Simón Bolívar's army in Venezuela.
Siegert began to sell it in 1824 and established a distillery for the purpose in 1830. Siegert was based in the town of Angostura and used locally available ingredients, perhaps aided by botanical knowledge of the local Amerindians. The product was sold abroad from 1853.
Angostura won a medal at the Weltausstellung 1873 Wien. The medal is still depicted on the oversized label, along with reverse which shows Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria in profile.
It is part of the Angostura Rum company.

Lots of tannins, but also some fruit.

Also good, now more balance between the freshness / acidity and the tannins and fruit. But I think, I prefer this wine @ 18 to 19 DegC.
TN 03-10-2019 @ 13 DegC:
Nearly 2 weeks open, but still good, still a light sparkling in the taste (also in combination with the acidity), now more towards the tannins and acidity en lesser to the fruit, but still very nice (for the price) and very drinkable. I stick to the approx. @ 18 DegC.
It can be made of local IT grapes, like Prosecco made of the Glera grape, but maybe also (among others in a blend) with Chardonnay.
It is not meant for keeping, but I think, it will keep for at least 3 to 4 years, however will it improve ?

89 POINTS

I was in doubt between 89 and 92 or even 95, since it is really very good. For it's simple good straight forward honey taste, it deserves 94 points, but since it is simple, not complex or with a great length it maybe should be 88 or 89. So I gave it two scores 89 and 95.

10/10/2016 - SOTERIOLOGIST favorite WROTE: 89 Points
Tried it again from a particularly good bottle of a friend. Lemon/bergamotte, vanilla and peat, but a tad too sweet, clearly ex-bourbon dominated. In direct comparison actually preferred the Bowmore 12 due to its greater, sherry influenced depth.
12/22/2014 - SOTERIOLOGIST favorite WROTE: 89 Points
On 12/20/2014 I am directly comparing this to the
Laphroaig 10
tasting in turns as I write this.
Glass: not amber but golden (this is a + !), perhaps like a Chardonnay, as befits a 10 y.o. non-colored Whisky which I think it is.
Nose: Light and clear, citrusy and with vanilla, but somewhat shy. The Laphroaig 10 is a bit oakier, drier and has more character, fullness and weight on the nose. But here with the Ardbeg you might almost think you are smelling a grappa.
Palate: noticeable distillery-bite on the tip of the tongue initially, but then the citrus, iodine, and in the length considerable saltiness. The very ash-like peat accompanies the whole trajectory until it finally gives way to the mostly lemony sweetness.
Yes quality, but between the two, it's the Laphroaig 10.

The finish is long and very complex. It has an oily viscosity and long mouthfeel
Conclusion: It is an outstanding quality spirit. Very Long and very complex, well integrated alcohol, good expressiveness, long mouthfeel. Premium priced (£43.95)

At € 35 (or even 40-45) worth the upgrade from the Gordon Rouge (Red Label) (S=86/100).
It is very smooth and does not have the rough edges / bitters the Gordon Rouge has.
Fits nicely in between the Gordon Rouge and the Cuvée du Centenaire at about € 80, which is even better than the Louis-Alexandre.
I also compared a 2 years open bottle of the Louis-Alexandre with a newly opened bottle (both no lot numbers), but no difference in taste.
Earlier on I compared two newly opened bottles of an approx. 25 years old and a new bottle of Gordon Rouge, also here there was no difference.
Also because of that I give all the Grand Marnier's a save 50 yrs in the bottle (or should I write 100 yrs ?).
