Punching way above its weight. The cork had the wine diamonds that others mentioned. Decanted for 4 hours, but even then it was still tight. Followed champagneinhand's lead and returned it to the bottle and wine fridge until the next day. It took 24 hours to relax and meld, but once it did, it was wonderful. Inky blood red, tinged with orange at the edge. Slow legs. Beautiful and powerful nose of cassis, blueberry, eucalyptus, bell pepper, cigar box, dark chocolate, and floral notes. Most of those notes continue on the palate, with the sweet, dark fruit out front, and chocolate, cedar planks and floral perfume. Big and chewy, with mouth coating dusty tannins, balanced by plenty of lively acidity. The finish is long and sweet. I've had Bordeaux and Napa Cab Sauv at four times the price that didn't perform as well as this.

11/12/13, 6:50 AM - I've had several older vintages of Sterling Cabernet over the last couple of years. The 1997 Diamond Mountain was excellent and certainly could last several more years. Than there was the 1978 regular Napa Cab that drank beautifully despite being a bit over the hill.
