Really excellent after a slow start. Def needed a couple of hours of air. as was a little shrill and acidic to start. Then classy, understated and classic. Not too much of anything except a sense of place. Mid weight, herbal and red-fruited. Yum.

Something not quite right here. A little cherry on the nose, but little else. Boring palate - nothing there. Total meh. Not like previous bottles. Probably very slightly corked.

Classic southern Rhone white. Which is generally not my up of tea. Sadly this one no exception. Insipid peach nose with some refreshers, follows to hollow palate. Slightly oily texture in the mouth.

South African Rhone blends are really much better and better value.

3/6 A very clean bottle after the first couple had a funky edge. Pretty decent. Classic mid-weight claret. Lovely nose of pencil shavings. Little fruit, but nicely savoury finish. Perhaps darting out a little after 3-4 hours? Drink now.

Fine, if a bit soft and diffuse. Fair value but disappointing in the context of such a top vintage.

This reminds me of why I like good, honest, lower-level Bordeaux. Lovely red fruit tones, good savoury notes on the nose and palate. Not fruity bit enough body and presence. No discernible oak. Drinking now though a year or two more would add some refinement. A bargain in the co-op food fire sale for under £7.

Impenetrable colour. Fairly decent, esp when on the cooler side. Some black pepper and meatiness. Some tannin too. Next one in a 2-3 years I think.

Relatively simple, but good. Not fruity. Some chalkiness - that's a good thing. Even better the next eve when more citrus came out. Really good. Classy.

Lovely; and wine to contemplate. A touch of oak still, but judicious. Much as I enjoyed this, I found it hard to love.

Really singing for the get go. Rich bit heady perfume. Some oak but well integrated. Palate a touch dry and pinched to start then Sedley down. Quite powdery texture. Long finish. Slowly faded over a couple of hours so I’d say drink soon.

Full on and rich to start, but settles quickly. Leather and tobacco and raspberry notes without being overly fruity. Slightly disjointed acidic finish.

Rather good. Interesting flavours. Lemon hints and secondary notes from some oak ageing gave this real interest. Remains v fresh -no hurry at all. Better than the recently tasted 2016 which has a bit too much Sauvignon Blanc for my palate.

Muted to start. Needed a good couple of hours to get going when it's lean style and crunchy red fruit with a polished texture went down well. Fairly simple but tasty.

Decanted for sediment. A little muted to start. Darker fruit profile for a CdP. Very clean - no funk at all. Real depth and refinement though, esp on the palate. As a wine it grew and grew over time so that after around 6 hours this was singing.

Perhaps the best bottle yet. Needed decanting for sediment and at its best after 30 mins when it lost its earlier pinched quality. Relatively simple but held up well over an hour or so until it was all gone.

2/6. Still a funky edge to these but in a good place too. Plenty of colour and needs a little decanting for heavier sediment - little fine sediment. Nose of leather and sweat. Palate fairly dry and narrow; as is finish - a luncheon sort of claret. Better with food too. Good value and holding up well. No hurry but no need to wait any longer.

Very 2003 but decent. Lovely soaring nose to start: quite rich but earthy. Some roasted quality but it works. Palate is broad but satisfying. Decent complexity. Savoury finish. After some time, a spirity quality comes through on the nose. Drink soon but pretty good for year and level. Enjoyable despite its limitations.

A blend of Chenin, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. 11.5%abv. District old oak on the nose then wet wool and tinned peaches. Quite a full and rich attack on the palate but drops away on the mid-palate to a slightly watery finish. Decent and a bit wacky and interesting. Glad to have tried this but I don’t need another.

Good without (yet) being great. Still a fair whack of vanilla, but smooth palate and slightly spicy finish. No real fruitiness but red fruited in style. Not loads of complexity either. Accomplished without being gripping. Hard to know whether this will really hit the heights in the future.
