7/9/23, 9:53 AM - Looks like the recent vintages are more reasonable, but no more $30 bottles of La Ca' that's for sure. Good for the though!
10/14/22, 8:57 PM - Its a great wine for sure
7/30/22, 2:19 PM - Can someone please explain "to be all the better on the second, or sometimes even third day.", or rather, how you aren'r drinking this gem of a wine completely within 4 hours of opening!!! :)
7/31/22, 3:15 PM - Who needs usual? But I do agree that this hold up well for a few days even just corked and on the counter!
7/24/21, 12:50 PM - Couldn't resist a nip before decanting and it definitely showed better once I properly decanted. My "system" of decanting back into the bottle allows the wine to reach room temp at a slower rate since the bottle is still at cellar temp, acting as an insulator for the cooler wine inside. This seems to keep wines from shutting down post decanting. I have nothing other than my anecdotal experience and chemistry background to go on, but I think its the shock from ~55F to ~70F when dumped into a room temp decanter that contributes to this effect.
7/26/21, 7:17 PM - Grazie srh! Do you happen to have Sucklings score? I love how he is always a good 2-3 points above everyone else, he had to have scored this at least a 97!!!
7/6/21, 6:46 PM - Hey SRH, I find that "smoke" tends to overpower a lot of wines, even your bolder reds. For some reason N Rhone Syrah and well made Aussie Shiraz seem to handle smoke better than other wines (at least to my palate).
7/6/21, 6:41 PM - No formal notes huh? Mind your manners, next time the note better start of with Dear Herr Selbach-Oster...
5/23/21, 7:06 AM - Hey Inca, I think I got this either on a pre-sale PCP deal or part of some inventory reduction discount. Couldn't find the exact transaction details, but bought these back in January.
5/11/21, 6:31 PM - :)
4/25/21, 4:24 PM - Prof! Caught your last 3 notes on the home page, assume you had these while watching Top Gun wearing a suit with shoulder pads while playing Pac man...
4/1/21, 6:07 PM - Ciao Beve, I am with you on that scoring system. Those high 80's to me is where the wine meets typicity, from a $ standpoint its the score where I would consider buying again. Really a quick way to see if this is something I would buy again as well as giving the public some insight into the criteria used in my evaluation for a somewhat informed opinion.
2/28/21, 9:57 AM - Based on some of our shared notes, my gut feeling is you will not be disappointed. And if you are, you have gifts for all your friends lined up for at least 11 birthdays :)To use another comparison, my (limited) experience with Agoritiko is similar to Spanish Temperanillo based wines- Rioja and the best regions can lay in your cellar forever but most are meant for more near term (5 yr) consumption. My gut says this wine should be consumed in the next 3 years, one to enjoy now while your expensive stuff ages.Saturday nights are when Mrs. Knurd and I usually pop bottles with more age, but I decided to try this since I have been going heavy with Italy & Spain recently. I know its a hit when Mrs. Knurd asks me how many bottles we have left!Hope that helps Mhbeaune!
2/28/21, 10:28 AM - I have been watching the notes on the 05 Lascombes myself, saw that you had gotten into 3 last year. If you only had one bottle like I do, would you drink now or give it another year or 2? Btw- Paullic is my favorite, so you rot about it becoming more Paullic-like got my attention...
2/28/21, 12:04 PM - Certainly does! I also have a 2005 Beau-Séjour Bécot and thinking of a Left vs Right taste off maybe in the fall.
2/7/21, 2:11 PM - Got 6 more D'Yquembe, you can live vicariously through me for the next few years, at least on the '13s!
12/19/20, 7:26 PM - Love it when a wine makes me reconsider what I know (or think I know). Will definitely have to seek this grape out.
12/2/20, 8:25 PM - An Il Poggione < 14.5% abv? Are you sure you had the right wine??? Hahahahahaha!
12/2/20, 8:24 PM - Assuming my invite got lost in the mail?
11/28/20, 9:52 AM - I think you might be right, some air and age would probably help smooth this one out. It's a beautiful color as well, definitely won't hurt to show off in a decanter!
11/27/20, 12:27 PM - Thanks Mark1npt. Wanted something more bold than a typical red but less so than a port. Worked out well!
11/26/20, 4:15 PM - I definitely lean towards JR’s 17 if I had to align with any of the critics.
10/27/20, 6:22 PM - Hey oldwines, hope you are are holding up well! Just popped my Il Pog rosso and I have to agree. Haven't gotten into my post-2010 Brunellos yet, but if their rosso is any indication, I might have to start joining the "way to expensive for what you get" club"
10/28/20, 3:15 PM - They definitely are more modern, I think 2004 was my first vintage and I thought it was modern but balanced. 2009 was the first one I owned and it about blew my taste buds away but figured it was a product of Parkerization like you said. Sounds like I will need to have a dinner party and go through my bottles. FWIW, Altesino and Livio Sassetti are still pretty traditional.
9/6/20, 7:21 PM - This post should be no surprise considering the translation of your CT handle.. :)For what its worth though, Muscadet is one of the most underrated age worthy wines, white or red, and once you factor in cost- bravissimo! It's subtle when young but when aged it manages to keep the subtlety with an added, developed complexity that is hard to describe until you experience it.
8/12/20, 7:36 AM - Exactly srh, have to view it in light of the restaurant markup. WS says $18 average price so ~2x isn't quite highway robbery.
7/10/20, 8:39 PM - almost sorry to read that it didn't taste like Thomas Jefferson, since truffles had gotten into your brain...
6/6/20, 3:52 PM - PB you took your time getting into this one! I ended up with 14 after cleaning out my LWS and still have 11 left. So good!
6/7/20, 10:19 AM - 07's are good too but for me 04 is drinkig really well right now IMO. I see you have 3 bottles left... :)
9/2/19, 9:10 AM - This is such a great wine, I popped a second bottle a few weeks ago and decanted, and lot of the bitter notes blew off. Beautiful color too. Got a 3rd left in the cellar for a special occasion.
8/4/19, 7:56 AM - BBob I will take the rest of your Rioja.
12/25/18, 11:15 AM - Mrs. Knurd got me a bottle of this for XMAS this year, can't wait to try it!
7/4/19, 7:27 PM - Popped this for the 4th Kirk, wow this is Barbera turned all the way to 11! Didn't get any blue, but "plum and kirsch underwritten with cacao and earth" are the condensed version of my notes. Mrs. Knurd out did herself on this gift!
6/9/19, 7:26 AM - Kirk, thanks for popping these, now I can judge when best to open mine :)Burlotto = magic
4/28/19, 6:38 AM - Just shows how far you'll go...Couldn't resist, seen it about 4999 times myself
4/14/19, 12:33 PM - To be fair though, it did remove the varnish off the table you wanted to refinish...
12/29/18, 9:23 AM - brah, Brunellos are sooo 2013
12/14/18, 6:08 PM - Ricard keep it down or it will become $50 /bottle!!!
12/14/18, 6:04 PM - What are you going to drink on January 11th 2019?
12/14/18, 6:00 PM - EG- did you decant to remove sediment, wash out the bottle of remaining sediment, then decant back into the clean bottle to slow ox?
12/14/18, 5:57 PM - Kirk- I get the feeling from your note that it likely wouldn't last IN YOUR CELLAR :)
12/13/18, 4:51 PM - Definitely agree with you Trey, the Langhe or even a nice Barbera can be really good values off a restaurant list.
11/21/18, 7:01 AM - Hi Yagil- curious as to your opinion that this wine isn't suitable for further aging. This is the second most current release and generally they hold up well for at least 5 more years after release. They are delicious though, can't argue against drinking now!
11/9/18, 6:00 PM - Hey Trey- my wife got me a bottle of this wine as a gift, said she searched it on CT and it had good reviews from a studley guy lol. I said I know who that is, The StudleyTray!
9/16/18, 5:28 PM - Kirk I finished my last bottle of this about a month or 2 ago, note pending, but agree completely on the style and the available space in the cellar that opened up.
7/8/18, 9:05 AM - TB one of my favorite pizza places in NC carries this and those herbal-earthy notes play very nicely with a few slices of Neapolitan fire oven pizza. Bubbles contrast with the fat (cheese, sausage, pepperoni, etc). The definition of a pizza wine!
7/4/18, 5:53 AM - Maybe some Sangria made with wine? :)
6/2/18, 3:25 PM - Was about to pop a 2012 Acclivi until I read your note Kirk, but you steered me towards the 2013 for dinner tonight!
6/2/18, 6:44 PM - Kurt- Just took 2 pages of "train of consciousness" notes on this wine, its in no way about to shut down and Mrs. Knurd just came and asked me how many bottles of this we have left. By far the best Acclivi I have had, though I only have experience with 5 vintages. Tremendous wine, I can't wait to get into some of the 2013 single cru's I have from Burlotto.
7/1/18, 11:38 AM - Takes a little longer for me to get my notes in these days, but its up now!
6/24/18, 9:22 AM - Might have to respectfully disagree with you guys, already hit 9 years and this wine is still going strong! 2nd wine yes, but also 2009. Might be able to hit 12-15 years before we start seeing a decline. Only time will tell!
6/24/18, 1:24 PM - Misread your comment, agree to agree? :)
5/28/18, 5:55 PM - Oooh I have one of these in my cellar, thanks for the heads up. Y'all in Switzerland now?
10/28/17, 8:12 AM - Just got 4 of these but was only able to score a single bottle of the Cannubi (and Acclivi for that matter). Glad I got any at all!
5/4/17, 3:51 AM - Always nice to find a wine like this, for bulk party purchases or for folks who ask for a recommendation but don't want to spend $20-30.
4/9/17, 6:43 AM - Hey Trey, not sure if you have anymore bottles of this, but I just opened my last bottle 2004 BdM recently and wish I could go back in time and get more. They are drinking so well right now!
3/7/17, 6:56 PM - I know what you mean ProfB! $20 gone for an enjoyable yet too simple to rebuy red Burg. Better values had in other regions.
2/19/17, 7:02 AM - It's even better because you misspelled "note"...
2/19/17, 4:31 PM - I can't take spelling advice from someone who can't spell.
2/16/17, 3:00 AM - yes yes the wine, but how was the meatloaf? :)
2/11/17, 6:30 AM - Super jealous of your tasting! I got a chance to try the 2004 a few months ago and it is delicious as well. Ornellaia keeps going strong!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
