5hr decant. Drank blind against 1999 Chave and the Grange was the better of the two wines to me but the room was split.

12/4/17, 5:58 PM - I saw at least 2 types of labels in CT for the 96 vintage, one has bin 95, the other doesn't. Does the one you tried either one? Just curious what's the difference between the 2 labels. Also, I saw the wine note in Penfolds website states it was 14.2% alcohol, but the labels here are 14.0%. Is this right? Thanks for your help!

Tasted at Blackbird today, blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, nose of burnt cinnamon, subdued nose that needed lots of coaxing, same on the palate, fairly fruit forward, big fruit, enjoy with a short decant, about 4 years to peak, and drink over the next 10 years, nice stuff, medium/big body, and medium/long finish. retail $135. Preferred the Arise to this wine.

6/22/17, 7:16 AM - Thought 2013 is an exceptional year for Napa, kind of surprise the rating lagged from previous years. Do you think it is a good value for $135 wine or $100 wine?

Primarily red fruit with a little blue - dark cherry, raspberry, and a little blueberry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth. Fairly long finish. However, we drank this bottle next to the 2013 vintage which was quite a bit better in my opinion - more vibrant, fuller fruit, more flavorful etc.. Popped and poured but drank over a couple hours. Improved a little with time. I believe this vintage could use a little more time for the fruit to open-up which is no surprise in light of its youth.

4/3/17, 10:14 AM - Thanks for your information! based on your score, 13 is better than 12 which is better than 14, right? Is this base on current performance or take info future development? If just for right now, any prediction down the road? BTW, do we know it is currently all by Shawn now or still some consulting winemaker? Thanks.

MW Institute Sit Down Tasting 2012/2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Panel, nose of warm blackberry pie, briar, black currents, and lush oak, same on the palate, big body, needs 10 years to peak and last 30 years easily, tasted better than the 2012, structured, medium/large amount of tannins present, long finish. Tod Mostero present and mentioned that in 1983 they used 25% Merlot in the wine and today 0%, 70% to 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and today the remainder is Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, also use a Y shape trellis system today.

MW Institute 2013 American Cabernet Tasting, nose of black currants, black cherry, licorice, forest floor, and spring flowers, same on the palate, medium/big body, Bordeaux blend that hints at future greatness due to the great 2013 vintage, needs 3 years to peak and will go 15+ years, good acid, soft tannins, very tasty, subtle today with an elegant future, long finish.

1/21/17, 5:18 AM - Thank you very much! I did find your review for the 2013 stag's leap Mondavi, but it seems to be a different chain from this. Sometimes CT record could be confused.
Do you have any opinion on their harvest of joy cab? I saw 2 consumed, but no note so far.
