2018 Lammershoek Pinotage The Innocent Swartland
100% Pinotage
from two dry-farmed vineyards with bush vines of age 16 and 43, respectively.
Early morning manual harvest. Partially whole-bunch and rest de-stemmed for
fermentation in large open concrete tanks.
Aged 10 months in closed concrete tanks. No wood.
12.5% Abv.
Proprietors: Acquired in 2013 by trio of investors headed by
legendary soccer star Franz Beckenbauer.
Winemaker: Schalk Opperman

A(ccuray)=2: Med light ruby/red. Fresh, spicy varietal.
B(alance)=2: Fruit forward with adequate structure.
C(omplexity)=2: Red berries, flowers, spices.
D(epth)=1: Lifted mouthfeel. Mild palate and bit tart finish.

Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,1]= 7/10

Fresh and pure: excellent value for everyday drinking.

from Realm Cellar's Moonracer vineyard on Wappo Hill
in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley
with fragmented sandstone and volcanic soils and eastern/southern exposure.

Label art is generated by computer algorithm designed by Sergio Albiac
with meteorological data from the vineyard as input as printed at
bottom of label. Hence a unique label for each bottle!

A(ccuray)=2: Deep ruby/purple. Dense robust Napa Cab.
B(alance)=2: Distinctive components awaiting full integration.
C(omplexity)=3: Crème de cassis, plum, potpourri, mint, graphite, licorice, cacao.
D(epth)=2: Textured mouthfeel. Full palate and long finish.

    no more than 2 hrs surmised. Sophisticated "fruit bomb" type that
    should continue to be accessible and enjoyable without any
    speculation on tertiary evolution.

2015 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett Mosel Saar Ruwer
100% Riesling hand-harvested and fermented with wild yeasts in old, wooden casks in a deep, cool cellar.

A(ccuracy)=2: Bright pale straw. Focused, floral, petrol, mineral.
B(alance) =3: Fruit forward yet backed by vibrant acid structure.
C(omplexity)=2: Apple, pear, peach, hint of honey, flint, saline minerality. Sweetness bit simple as yet.
D(epth) = 2: Excellent length, finish and aftertaste.

2015 Guillaume Gonnet Châteauneuf-du-Pape Bel Ami Grenache Blend, Grenache
50% Grenache 50% Syrah from 50-90 yr old vines in organically farmed Croix du Bois vineyard.
Manual harvest, 60-100% de-stemmed. Natural yeast fermentation for 20-30 days.
Aged 30% each in cement, stainless, wood vats, rest in demi-muds.
14.5% Abv.
Owners: Guillaume Gonnet (3rd generation) and his Australian wife Kelly.

A(ccuracy)=2: Med Light cherry/ruby. Fragrant, spicy Rhone blend.
B(alance)=3: Vibrant components in harmony.
C(omplexity)=2: Red and dark berries, spices, mineral.
D(epth)=1: Round, supple mouthfeel. Average length and finish.

    winery's tech sheet: http://www.guillaumegonnet.com/bel-ami-rouge.php which apparently is generic and not vintage specific.

50 % Merlot, 47 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 % Cabernet Franc
from 120 ha (83 planted) of gravel on a deep clay-limestone subsoil.
Manual harvest by selective passes from Sep 26 to Oct 20.
20-35 day fermentation by indigenous yeast in stainless steel and
cement vats separately by parcel and varietal. Spontaneous malolactic.
Aged 12 months in 100% new French oak.
14% Abv.
Proprietors: Jean Gautreau (since 1969) and daughter Sylvie.

A(ccuray)=2: Deep ruby. Opulent Bordeaux blend.
B(alance)=3: Robust components in harmony with tension.
C(omplexity)=2: Dark berries, graphite, spices.
D(epth)=2: Firm mouthfeel. Concentrated palate and lingering finish.
