a dark ruby pinot, with the extraction that makes it obvious it was California but fall short of cloying and the wine is true to the varietal. In otherwords you will know it is a pinot in blind taste. Macphail to me is star that peope don't talk about much

Excellent Chiant Classico with a bit of cab. As others have mentioned it has a strong tannin backbone so be prepared to decant for many hours or hold

This wine at 13.6 to me is the wine of the vintage for Calif Cab. Tonight at 16 years, color was great, very little bricking/

Cassis, dark fruit solid tannins. This wine borders on bordeaux like.

Great 1998 Calif cab.
The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium.

this wine always creates controversy and even though it 14 years under its belt there is still a nice barn yard funk and hit of green peppers, some like it, some dont. Always interesting.

Well, from a good vintage this showed very well, a bit of oak on first note that burned off, then a Bordeaux style with pencil lead cassis and earth. Fruit still there and this was a hit at our 1980's wine night!

Tasted blind in a group of 13 wines and this was top one or 2. It has evolved since I drank it last in 2007. Really a very special merlot, with a solid structure to match the rich fruit

Typical in between a burg and syrup pinots produced in Calif. So for me it fits the bill. Rich, raspberry slight tannins on the finish. Will age 8-12 years like most of his wines.
The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Raspberry, and Strawberry. It tastes like and Strawberry Jam. The body is Medium. The wine has Silky texture. The wine finishes Medium.

When the northern Rhone does it well, it does it very well. Certainly not the inked stained purple US style or Australian, more of a ruby red color. With that came a full structured relatively large wine, that had some barnyard and wonderful red fruit.

After a bunch of reds, this wine was open late and it was wonderful. Changed a bunch of minds of the simplistic view of Chablis from an America's view of the bastardized style they were used to.

Big raspberry note on the front end, the wine is starting to fad just a bit, no browning on the edges yet even though 11 years old. I really don't think it gets better from here. So drink it up. Still delicious/

A bit greener than anything I am used to from Dehlinger and that goes back a long way. Interesting to me that I probably could not have identified this as Tom's wine until it was open 3 hours. I would give it more bottle time and realize this may be as Burgundian as it gets from Calif.

Shows the reason why you age a cabernet. Tannins had softened and this was the hit of the night. Reveals the history of Rutherford in a glass.

Restrained style, the only problem I had with the wine was that it was almost sour on the finish. Not in the sensed that it was flawed, but hard to understand what they were going for, maybe a bit too aciditic?. Really nice with my Kobe steak however.

This wine tasted blind would be hard to identify for most. Strong raspberry and floral nose and on the palate. The second day the wine was better and more true to a cab profile.

For me a wine can't be rated that high if it doesn't resemble its varietal characteristics. Sure it may be tasty but when I open a wine I should be easily identifing it. This is new world all the way and not my style.

Navarro is my QPR wine of choice, but this zinfandel did not live up to their typical wine making abilities. Maybe it did but something was off here. No flaws just not exciting or to their standards.
