Lovely wine, infanticide. Will buy more and cellar for at least three years. Comprehensive note to follow after day 2

7/22/21, 5:10 AM - If you have mroe than one bottle I would open one now. My more comprehensive note fell between the cracks, sorry. Have to look up my notes. My recollection, however, is that it was showing great on day two. Will have to open another bottle in the next few weeks. Cheers,

Beautifully concentrated, yet with a lightness and tingle of acidity, to go along with the petrol and perceived sweetness, that's totally dry. Not as massively exotic as the 09...nice array of nectarine and peach, green tea, smoked herbs, citrus oils. Fresh acidity that seems a little mellow, yet still possessing great balance and tasty Riesling flavors. Not the epiphany as the 09 was for me though. EDIT..this was the 2013.

audouzed for 8 hours, magnificent, well integrated acidity, sublime on day 2, may improve over the next few years

Tried a more vigorous serving this time by breathing it in bottle for 6 hours and double-decanted 1/5. Somehow lost the fine acidity this time and became in-balance. Will skip the double decant next time. NR

11/25/14, 11:59 PM - Pull the cork in the morning. Put the cork on the bottle but do not push it in again. Drink in the evening. This method IMHO creates the best results for Riesling not older than 15 years. Older Riesling: pull the cork between one and three hours before drinking, the older, the less airtime.

... Perfect wine to forget the Riesling Jihadists and their moronic reaction on vintage criticism.

This wine will surely develop nicely over the next 40+ years. Dark, opaque color. Intense nose of plums, mulberries, black cherry, jasmine and a whiff of licorice. 150 seconds finish. Spectacular on the palate, almost identical to bouquet but with a touch of cedar. Well structured, apparently high alcohol which you do not taste, far from being hot. Absolutely phantastic. got to buy much more

At the Theise DI tasting. Astounding, a step up from the Kalkofen. The minerality here is even more vivid, and this is a really remarkable combination of power and finesse, conveying both palate staining intensity and surprising finesse. Hard to put this into words. Not at all cheap, but WOW.

This is a wine that makes me religious. First glass was popped and poured, rest was audouzed over 3 hours. Still very dark, almost black, only at the rim turning into deep purple. Smells like blackcurrant and blueberries, a little bit of plum, cedar wood with a very decent leather note. Reminds me of a mixture between Mouton Rothschild 59 and 82 plus additonal fruit. After a while a tender lavender note that fades into dried plum and leather with some mineral accents. In the mouth a wonderful silky texture, perfect dark fruit melange, blueberry with cedar and mineral. An intense 50 sec finish and an afterglow that lasts for more than two minutes. This is pure perfection, and ,judging from my previous tastings and this bottle's decelopment, there will be more development before this wine reaches the plateau of maturity. Expect further evolution of the flavors for the next 10-15 years. Will remain sensational fur another 20 to 25 years.

This wine is not cheap, however, in comparison to Mouton 59 and 82, and a few Petrus vintages, the wine is still a bargain below 900 Euros. Have a bottle with your friends or your mate before you die.

8/11/10, 10:23 AM - I have also tasted the 1997, the 2001 and the 2002. They are, although very different, all great wines. However, I prefer the 1994, followed by the 2001.
