Right in the middle of its sweet spot for current drinking my wine of the year though I have drank some other fine wines !! Aromatically left bank with pencil shavings and cedar. Lovely sweet fruit a wine that grabs your attention from the very first whiff and keeps you spellbound to the very last drop. A stunning example of the Pomerol 1998 vintage.

One of my wines of the year a true blockbuster the length on the finish is extraordinary. Stunning cassis aromas reach the nostrils faster than a greyhound out of the trap. I have never experienced a Tempranillo based wine so lush and dense on the palette. Simply glorious.

Glad I popped the cork and gave this a try decanted for an hour before dinner glorious damson in color from what is acknowledged to be a legendary vintage for the northern Rhone. The nose reveals warm dark fruits, the texture on the palette is velvet, wonderful purity and harmony and the finish is long and very very dry. Extraordinary value will seek out more 2015 Northern Rhone on account of this example.

This is a fabulous wine for summer drinking, it so fresh and juicy with aromas of flint and citrus fruit. There are a different variety of styles of Soave so its worth trying to find a style that is to your liking. Outstanding value thats also goes well with many foods. Garganega is a refreshing change of cultivar.

What a glorious expression of Pinot Noir. The 2006 Bouchard Echezeaux has a voluptuous silky texture with very good length on the marginally sweet finish which is testament to the quality of fruit. The perfumed aromas are so seductive and engaging on this impeccably balanced and elegant wine ... quite superb.

I found the 1999 Palmer a little disappointing. I thought that there was some evidence of under-ripeness, I also found it to be sour with an incredibly dry finish. I have to admit I expected more from this prestigious chateau in this vintage. Not a bad wine by any means but lacked a certain Wow factor.

In the context of the vintage this is a fabulous offering one of the better left bank wines I have tasted. Glorious aromas of pencil shavings and tar that are very seductive. Super overall balance, deep purple , smooth and very much open for business with seriously good length. Great value, glad I have more to enjoy in the coming years to track its evolution. A chateaux that has been delivering great wines of late even in so called off vintages.

Not as voluptuous or as silky as I was expecting for a 95 Angelus. Certainly gives pleasure and benefits with considerable time in the decanter. I was a little surprised by the acidity but perhaps that will lessen with further aging. Still a good showing though.

A glorious golden color this 86 Climens has certainly put on considerable weight this past five years or so but still remains fresh with plenty of life ahead. The tropical aroma's are beautiful and really roar out from the glass. Its a very classy offering and beautifully balanced with superb precision and certainly not overly cloying. A truly fabulous Climens.

Firmly in its drinking window. The tannins have melted away giving way to a polished classy Calon Segur. There are gorgeous aromas of pencil shavings and cassis with a long lasting finish. Last bottle from a case of 12 costing 150 pounds en-primeur..... sadly !

I was not overly impressed with this offering from the 2005 vintage. Its a solid wine but I expected a little more. I don't think it has the stuffing to improve significantly I much prefer the 2000 vintage at this point of evolution and you would have to go back all the way to the 1986 vintage where Talbot truly excelled.

The 2009 D'Issan certainly benefits with a 2 hour decant. Even then the nose is still a little reticent but with further airing it reveals fine cedar and tobacco aromas. The tannins have melted considerably and the texture is polished and layered with velvet. The finish is long so I would imagine that with time in bottle this will improve without question. If you do have more than one bottle do open to gauge its evolvement. Very enjoyable.

A very classy offering. Lovely dense texture and weight in the mouth. A sweetish entry gives way to a slightly effervescent zingy mid-palette but finishes dry. Having tasted both Cloudy Bay and Dog Point from the 2016 vintage all which were very good my own preference slightly is for the Greywacke .

N.B. A common error that one can't emphasize enough myself included is in the past I tended over chill my white wines. It makes a whole lot difference to the wines aromas etc if you do allow the wine to sit in the glass or remove the wine from the fridge in advance for 10-15 minutes before enjoying with food.

Not a lot going on here fairly lightweight. However perfect for the beach or a picnic and with the modest alcohol levels @ 12.5 you can comfortably consume 2 or three glasses with food so kudos for that.

I have been enthusiastic about this wine having had the pleasure of many outstanding bottles over the past few years. Frustratingly however there has been some bottle variation having had 3 bottles this past few years which I felt did not deliver anywhere near the pleasure of earlier bottles. Were the wines flawed or perhaps shutting down ? I am not a professional taster so will refrain from judgment but its certainly disappointing when a wine does not deliver on expectation from past tastings.

I have followed this wine in its infacy through its teenage years and now at full maturity and its been a real joy and privilege to have experienced its development which at every stage has given enormous enjoyment. With age it has developed wonderful nuances with stunning aromas roaring from the glass there is still acidity present to allow further development. This is fabulous winemaking.... Bravo !!!

Shows lots of freshness and energy with a decade of ageing. Requires decanting a few hours in advance to enjoy at its best and probably should be accompanied with food to be appreciated. Gorgeous aromas that develop in the glass with aeration. Still evolving with a long life ahead.

The nose is initially quite tight but with aeration gorgeous cassis aroma's emerge. Still a little chewy and dry so needs decanting an hour or two before consuming should you be curious to sample now. Like all good wine though the longer it sat in the glass the more exotic and complex it became. No denying the quality of the vintage It would be good to sample this wine three or four years down the line and I would guess has the potential for a point or two higher once all the elements emerge together.

I have to say I was really impressed with this offering. Its unfair but I tend to avoid wines which carry high alcohol levels probably as I enjoy a second glass. The Allegrini Amarone 2010 carries the 15.5 alcohol effortlessly, wonderful balance, lovely texture and weight, the aromas emerging from the glass reaching your nostrils are so seductive. Notes of intense cassis and dried fig. A wonderfully crafted bottling.

One has to admire the consistency of the wine from this outstanding domaine and when one considers the price ratio buying various vintages becomes a no brainer. I did not decant this wine opting to open this bottle a few hours before dinner given the wines age. Domaine de Chevalier gives immediate gratification, the texture is silky and voluptuous with warm ripe fruits, tobacco and game. Firmly in its drinking window... just gorgeous.
Red
Due to the chewy and crunchy tannins on the mid-palate I found this wine really hard work to enjoy even after having let it breath numerous hours in the decanter. I would not approach this wine right now, my guess would be that it would benefit laying down for a further five years or so for it to come together hopefully. Life is too short so the remainder went straight into flavor my Chilli con Carne.

One can't emphasize enough how important storage conditions are when accessing older wines as is the importance of preparation for any wine to show its best. I bought this wine en-primeur cant remember exactly what I paid for it but the initial outlay seems laughable when you consider todays cost. The 1996 Cos d' Estournel is firmly in its drinking window, still fresh with lots of energy, a slight dry finish but with an abundance of ripe fruit wafting from glass, some acidity still present with wonderful overall balance and a modest 13 percent alcohol......... Great St. Estephe terroir.

An easy drinking style with lots of plum and cherries on the palate with a short finish. Unless the price was favorable I would question whether its worth purchasing a second wine from a less successful vintage. Better value could be found elsewhere.

This is quite a different expression compared with the 2010 vintage. Not as complex at this stage. Never the less it does give immense pleasure full of soft bramble flavors that glides down effortlessly. Not a great deal of acidity which makes me believe that this perhaps should be consumed in the near term. Jerome Bressy is at the top of his game.

This a gorgeous mouth filling wine bursting with tropical aromas and a long butterscotch finish. Comparisons with Grand Cru Burgundy are not far off the mark and at an affordable price. I think this would be better with poultry or pork rather than with the delicate flavor of fish as its such a powerful expression of Chardonnay. Equally it drinks well without food..... really quite delicious.

I was curious to taste the 2014 Cos d Estournel as some wine critics had suggested trying the wine in its youth to enjoy the fruit in its youth. You certainly feel some excitement upon opening a case with the gorgeous label displayed. If you like me have significant holdings of this wine you would be doing no harm in sampling the contents. So If you do intend doing so may I recommend decanting this wine well ahead of dinner even first thing in the morning because it requires serious aeration for the wine to soften somewhat and for it to be enjoyable. Its superbly structured and built for the long haul, dark crimson purple in color the nose is a little muted initially but opens up to reveal a cornucopia of exotic aromas. In a blind tasting it would be entirely possible that I would not have recognized this as being a Bordeaux from St Estephe. Its just such a baby and needs serious time in the cellar for me, I will wait at least another 5 years before opening another bottle unlike some other 2014's which are much more approachable in their youth. Never the less it was educating and enjoyable exercise. I have no doubt that the wine will merit a higher score with time but for me it did not necessarily give me that instant sense of sensual enjoyment but it was getting better and better the more time it sat in the glass.

This is a phenomenal success for the vintage and one of the better wines I have tasted. Even just pulling the cork and letting the wine breath one feels excited by the intense aromas emerging from the bottle. I decanted the wine 1 hour before dinner which was sufficient . The wines comes in at a heady 14.5 ABV and carries this effortlessly neither feeling heavy or over extracted . Wonderful pure fruit in the mouth there are no hard edges with a long aftertaste to die for. 84 percent Merlot, 14 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the 2012 wines which I have tasted those with a high percentage of Merlot in the blend seem to have produced good wines testifying to the health of the Merlot which was picked. As an example Ch. Gazin produced one of the wines of the vintage that is 100 percent Merlot which is highly unusual for the chateau. Pavie Macquin also represents outstanding value for the money. So pleased I have more of this stashed away to enjoy down the line... A beautiful wine.

A model of consistency turning out great dessert wines. I absolutely loved this wine, wonderful tension between the sweetness and acidity. Gorgeous flavors of ripe apricots in the mouth. This will last a long time and give immense pleasure in the years ahead if you can resist not drinking it now. Superb value for money given what one pays for the very top dessert wines. Wonderful harmony combined with an apple based dessert.

German riesling represents some of the best values in the wine world today. So much praise was heaped upon the stellar 2015 vintage and a a consequence I purchased a hefty amount of wine en-primeur on that advice. The aroma's of pear in the glass are absolutely gorgeous enticing you in for a sip, in the mouth it is superbly balanced with steel like precision. The wine is not overly acidic and neither is the finish that dry. Its a beautiful wine that gives immediate pleasure with its superb freshness.

I have had the opportunity of tasting Jerome Bressy's Gourt de Mautens 2010 on several occasions and at every tasting the wine has really wowed me. Outstanding value from a wonderful vigneron in a region where the top wines can command top dollar. The wine is full of juicy luscious bramble fruit that is silky smooth in the mouth. Quite wonderful and worth searching out from top vintages like 2010 & 2012. Worth decanting for an hour or so before dinner to show its best.

This is the first wine I have had the opportunity of tasting from the 2014 vintage and on the basis of my finding pleased as punch to have invested in numerous wines. Given the advice of some critics suggesting this wine is somewhat backward I brought this out of my cellar a day before and decanted the wine a full 2 hours before dinner. The nose itself appeared a little reticent initially but with airing graphite, sage and bay leaf came to the fore. The wine is beautifully balanced with a gorgeous silky mouthfeel.
Many wine critics have suggested the 2014's will be ready to go from day one without necessarily closing down. And on evidence of my tasting I would have to agree but would recommend decanting... A beauty.... also outstanding quality to price ratio for an outstanding Graves.

What a glorious golden amber color this wine has developed with age. I have tasted this wine both in its youth and with age. Possibly preferred the wine young however the expression is totally different thats why we should taste the wine at various points of evolution. The flavours in the mouth are quite delicious but perhaps lacks some acidity to give it a bit of a kick matching it with food. Never the less its a beautiful wine.

I still find a heavy influence of oak on the nose, never the less the wine is smooth and a pleasure to drink if perhaps not showing a lot of complexity.
