Last bottle was enjoyed with friends over a boisterous dinner, just a week ago, when I didn't have the time/space to really dig in to the wine. Tonight, it's just me and the bottle. Bright moderately deep golden straw color. Nose has a dense florality, mineral backbone, lemon oil top notes, hints of a slightly sweet almond paste then full on ripe golden peach. Lots of depth to it. Wow, taking a sip, really great wave of lush stony citrus, segueing into a long mango pucker finish. Again, lots of layers to this. Both easy drinking and notably complex. Damn. And each sip brings out other teases. (point wise I started at 93... 10 minutes later bumped it up... 10 minutes more bumped it up again... fantastic stuff.)

See note below : ) Really enjoyed this, though I felt it leaned more Spanish moscato than gewurtz

First time Wasenhaus (I think) for me, and this was nice, though with a quite mineral and clipped finish that left me wishing for a bit more depth of fruit. It looked (to me) and felt much older. Is that good? Is that bad?

Dang this was really fantastic, great example of what older cru Beaujolais can be. Day 2 leftovers: flat out beautiful wine. Nose is dark plum, a touch herbal leaning towards eucalyptus, a touch floral leaning towards roses, a bit of graphite. Super harmonious and layered, still vibrant dark cherry fruit but not at all dense or heavy, velvety texture, nice bright cherry acidity on the finish and long lingering pleasant tartness. I think this has years to go still in peak range.

Showing well, and seems like it will continue to grow nicely. Still youthful and bright. Lighter bodied than I expected, possibly the vintage.

Nice note below - this really evolved nicely with air, taking on weight and lots of floral aromatics.

Love love love this wine. So unique. So mercurial. So intriguing. Brings me contemplative joy.

Young still but really nice, served blind alongside some Dujac grand and 1er crus, it was clearly of similar cloth.

Really enjoyed this served blind alongside some baller Dujac bottles - it showed at first as old world pinot-ish, we were guessing Spätburgunder maybe, or maybe cru beaujolais? The new world characteristics emerged more with air, showing more vibrant/juicy fruit. Good stuff.

Based on the nose I would have sworn this was burgundy, but the palate somehow swung from Burgundian to buttery California Chardonnay to tropical fruit. Interesting and enjoyable if a bit perplexing.

Light years ahead of last bottle last year, this is really outstanding, unique, and varietally correct. Waves of Muscat florals for years over a base of grapefruit pith love. Dang! Acidity starts to become more assertive (in a very good way) after about an hour.

Strangely margarita-like - a touch salty, viscous, citric, with a lightly floral rounded green fruitiness that also strangely reminds me of some good shopping silver tequila. Nose is a touch waxy, slate, white flowers - less strange : ) getting really nice a half hour in.

Didn't have time to let this sit before drinking, and it's a bit disjointed. Feels both slightly over the hill and not quite ready at the same time if that makes sense. I'll try to save a bit for a few hours from now...

Update: Back a few hours later and it has indeed come together, especially alongside a dry aged NY strip steak from Flannery. Very happy. Lesson learned - open this well in advance of drinking!

Loving this bottle. Couple hours open, deep cranberry floral nose with a bit of forest floor vibe, growing deeper and dare I say Burg-like!? with air. Midweight, cranberry dark cherry fruit with nice chompy acidity, happiness, subtle notes of walking through the woods in the early morning while the dew still coats the way. Long lingering intrigue.

Freaking delicious with good dark chocolate : )

Showing REALLY well, served blind I was not thinking rioja at all, but can definitely see it in hindsight. On the lighter and more elegant side of things.

Glad to see I wasn't the only stumped on this - a group of us had this blind and I was guessing a California white rhone blend. That or an unusual Spanish white (as it had a touch of salinity that felt Spain-leaning). Shocked at the reveal!

Showing really well and nowhere near it's age, lovely, especially with some tinned octopus and ventresca butter!

in Thailand, I have read that when people eat something that is not to their taste, they don’t say “I don’t like this,” but rather, “I don’t know how to eat this”. With this wine, I do not know how to drink this.

Side by side with the 95, this was the clear winner for me, though others felt the opposite. The 97 has a precision to it with a bit more acid that fell much more in line with my burgundy-leaning tastes. Lovely stuff.

Impressive village level wine. Deep cherry on the nose, herbal leaning to a hint of eucalyptus, some cinnamon-ish spice as well, becoming a bit rose/floral with air. Smells velvety if that's possible. Lots of intrigue, both lively and deep, both juicy and serious, lots of layers centered on that dark cherry core. Gorgeous wine, especially with some time in the glass. Totally ready to go at this young age but I bet it will be better in a year or two or three (edit: and now I see similar notes below : ). Really delicious and great bang for the buck.

Fantastic young auslese. Came across quite sweet at first but with air the sweetness and acidity come into nice balance. Glorious ripe pineapple orange blossom nose, lush, with a savory herbal undertone. It SMELLS full bodied. Honeyed but not too thick, great mineral backbone holding it together, the finish actually tugs between the minerality and the sweet fruit and an orange peel slightly bitter acidity really nicely. Love it. Bumping up a point on day 2.

Still young, with lots of depth.

Give it an hour of air and dang this is ready to roll, as the initial barnyard funk blows off (still present, but in balance). Green stemmy nose with clear cab franc character, mineral earth cellar floor but fruit is yet to come. Lighter body than expected, lots of tingling back and forth, leans slightly tart cherry, mercurial (as in shifting, not as in tasting like mercury!). May be bottle variation given some of the prior notes, but this one is beautiful and sharply elegant.

Really nice progression from last bottle, and getting even better with air. Deep purple ruby color, forest floor dark black cherry nose, something savory/herbal, something on the edge between slate and graphite. Velvety texture, a nice bright finish, lots of depth.

Really opened up with air, ethereal floral nose, lovely balance, purity of fruit with an earthy balance. Would guess cru boo most likely…
