Very, very nice. Not a big fan of Cali chard but this was very restrained and with no over the top oak. Apple and mild tropical fruit. Matched very well with scallops. The wine seemed almost delicate indicating Iight drink remaining sooner than later

Still young but is a very enjoyable bottle now. Decanted for about 45 min just to give it a chance to open up a little. Had with prime strip steaks and had just enough tannin to stand up to the richness of the beef. Dark fruit just pumped through with a long finish. I have nor doubt this will be even better in a couple of years. For a $30 bottle of cab it's tough to beat.

Much better than my first bottle. Still very reticent and not giving much even with a few hours of air. I'll wait another couple of years before trying again.

First bottle after reading recent comments here. This is at the very beginning of its' drinking window. Very dark fruited and opened up over 4 hours. Really happy I popped this open and will try to stretch out my remaining 6.

Much more expressive than the last bottle. Rich, deep tertiary notes on the nose. Tobacco, mild floral and dark fruit on the palate. Elegant finish lingers on for what seemed an eternity, probably 30 sec lol. Fully mature but no rush to finish remaining bottles.

Relatively short decant of 30 min. Still very young on the nose with balsamic notes. Moderate tannic structure but did note overpower the fruit. Probably needs about 3 to 5 years to really reach its potential.

This has to be one of the best QPR's of the vintage. Shows incredible promise for the future. Decanted and drank over 5 hours and gradually showed dark fruits with some smoke and cigar on the back end. Will probably shut down soon but I think give it just 5 years and it will be a stunner.

I've only had a couple of Cathy Corison's cabs in the past but I'm still trying to figure out her intended style. For a 2007 this seemed very mature with no place to go but down. It's not a very powerful wine but it is balanced and does have a personality to it. I have a bottle left and will probably drink up within a couple of years.

Very young but already enjoyable. Tannic backbone with tar, smoke and black fruit. It accompanied chicken cacciatore and spinach/cheese ravioli very well. I'd wait 2-3 years to drink on its' own.

Last bottle and definately past it's time. Slight bricking around the edge. Slight olive notes on the nose along with some camphor and menthol. Lots of acid and not a lot of fruit left at this point. Glad I didn't wait any longer for this old soldier.

This was a friends bottle which was very clean with a great fill into the neck. No decant and took about 20 minutes to open up in the glass. Still a powerful wine with still some room to improve IMHO. Densely colored blackish red with long legs in the glass. Black fruited and a finish that lasted over 30 seconds. No rush to drink my own lone bottle and can only hope it's nearly as good as this one.

1st of a 3 bottle auction lot. Top shoulder fill. When i removed the capsule there was a black gunk cover the cork but I was able to pull it with a Durand with no problem. Still dark and brooding red. Didn't bother to decant given the age. Started to open up after about 15 minutes with a subtle floral nose with a hint of cigar. The palate was still richly fruited but with a hint of acid on the back end along with a great mouth feel. The only negative was a slight acid note on the back end. This is as good as it will get and is probably just past its peak but not going anywhere fast.

This bottle was just sublime with totally integrated tannins but with plenty of dark fruit still bursting thru.
Totally in balance with a wonderful mouthfeel and finish
Only one bottle left and will definately pick some more up if available. Perfect place now, no need to wait any longer. Just a steal at $50

Just a wonderful expression of aged Barolo. Opened 30 minutes prior to trying with no decant. Smokey nose with almost a almost a Cote Rotie-like palate of bacon fat, tar and forest floor on the palate. Not sure if it will improve much more but no rush to drink last bottle.

Opened a 375ml to see what all the buzz is about. Decanted for 3 hours before trying. While it is well structured with firm tannins, it has plenty of fruit to maintain it's balance. Very approachable now but will be killer with 15 to 20 years of age. I'll continue to add additional bottles at $60 or less. Best Giscours I've ever tried.

From a 375ml. What a shocker! Very earthy with a full bodied texture, nothing "thin" here. Had no expectations at all for this being an odd bottle in an auction lot. I'd love to have more of this but realize it's only good bottles at this point, not wines

1st of a 6 bottle auction lot. Decanted and allowed to sit for 15 minutes before trying. This is one of the most advanced 89's I've had, fully mature. Tannins have mostly melted away but the wine is still well balanced. Slight browning at the rim. Still hanging on to some mild fruit but tertiary notes of smoke, cigar, forest floor are starting to take over. Very nice bottle but this is no Lynch or Montrose for life expectancy. It won't get any better but will probably hang in there for a few more years.

This has really evolved over the last 5 years into a fully mature wine since I last had it. Pleasant nose that took a while to coax out what was to come.Notes of tapenade, forest floor and tobacco. While this no longer displays the power and structure of the vintage it is still a very well balanced wine. Finish was slightly abbreviated but nice. I have 3 bottles left and will probably drink up over the next 2-3 years.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Initially some drying tannin on the palate but smoothed out over 30 minutes. While this obviously has more tertiary character it won"t be confused with any old world wine, it's still purely Cali. This is still drinking well but would not hang onto any longer, drink up!

Meh, nothing special and rather a disappointment for Varner. On the positive the oak treatment is restrained and there's nothing offensive about it. On the flipside side it's rather thin without any personality, just a blah wine.

Wow, just an incredibly enjoyable bottle with zero expectations. Won as part of a mixed bottle auction lot with 1 bottle still left. Very pure with beautiful floral nose with whiffs of cigar and camphor. Even after being open for a couple of hours it didn't fall apart as expected. Palate had a seamless and smooth smokiness to it. Not a blockbuster but just a joy to savor and linger over. For $11 just a total steal of a bottle

This was a very, very nice bottle from a recent auction purchase. I'm so happy I was lucky enough to win the lot. Beautiful nose of tar, dark fruit, black cherry and some cigar box. Great mouthfeel. Tannins are still there but have integrated enough to help frame the wine. Still plenty of fruit and a lingering finish. This still has plenty of life and I still see room for some improvement

While still an enjoyable claret, this has seen it's best day. Base of neck fill, cork came out in one piece thanks to my Durand. Nice gamey nose with a slight floral twist. After initial decant was a little lean but filled out after about 15-20 minutes. Tannin has mostly resolved and fruit is tough to find. Paired with a NY strip steak and matched well and actually brought out nice notes of the wine. Drink up if you have some, this isn't going to get any better
