A wine possessing Rioja qualities. Moderate fruit 3 hours after opening bottle, balanced tannins, ripe plums on the palate. Decanter gave it 95, best Rioja Reserva, Platinum medal. What were they drinking? Perhaps a different batch/barrel? Decent and acceptable, had better Rioja at Costco for less, was $11.99 but wanting to find bargains on Christmas Eve may be asking too much.

Worldwide Wines that Don't Suck (Saint Genevieve, Minneapolis): Disappointing. Have not enjoyed the Moet 2006s. This lacks complexity. Dried herbs, raspberries, too much chalk and lacks acidity. Not my style.

11/24/19, 8:21 AM - Slimes thanks for the message. It was actually the Rose I had and for some reason it was on my website blog but not in Cellar Tracker. I would avoid this wine as this one had hardly any bubbles. Maybe we all bought from a heat damaged container. http://twincitieswinetasting.com/tn-2008-moet-chandon-champagne-grand-vintage-brut-rose-france-champagne/

Slow O'd overnight then decanted 30 minutes and followed for about 3 hours. The grenache really shows here, with exotic raspberry and boysenberry. It is extremely floral. The palate is actually a bit leaner for a Saxum, and that is totally fine with me. Frankly, this was one of the better Saxum's that I've had, and I was not expecting that from 2011.

For now & through '20, + should work BOTH as a quaff & with food. My VG+/EXC-, easily the higher IF one takes into account this vendor's $8.95, which is $1 < anyone else on wine-searcher! 91 pts WE with "Best Buy" @ $15, 90 Suckling, 87 The Wine Front (Bennie), + Gold @ '18 S.D. Int'l & Bronze @ the '18 Int'l Wine Challenge.

Note: Also tasted on 11/17/18 & 6/15/19, though probably BEST suited for those with a high tolerance for acidity -- & "grassy"/gooseberry-like SBs.

Day 1: Final bottle. Bought over a case for less than $12. Best purchase in a while. Earth, spice, wood, floral and minerals. Medium plus finish. Drink this wine now. 91 points
Day 3: Lots of oak and dill. Lose of fruit that was present on these six months ago. I would cellar any you have. 88 points
Day 3.5: Tons of air with the last glass and it worked. Still has the wood and subtle dill but the fruits have emerged again. Medium plus finish. Cellar as recommended. 91 points
Recommendation: Cellar and drink after 2022.

Very fruit forward, touch of sweetness in the initial flavors, astringency and a bit of off flavors on the finish. This is an Oregon wine for those that like fruit forward California Pinot Noirs.

Good depth of fruit (mostly cassis, some blackberry) a fair amount of oak (cigar box and vanilla). Pleasantly sweet on the attack, a hint of spice on the finish. Alcohol seemed somewhat obtrusive and a definite menthol note. Overall delightful with room to improve.

Day 1: Not as good as the last bottle. Saline, tangerine, minerals and really acidic. Almost Sauvignon Blanc like. Really tastes like a poorly made New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Will return this bottle if no improvement on day 2. Gut impression 84 points
Day 2: This is more similar to the first bottle experience. Had one dumped this out they would have lost out. Always try a bad wine on day 2 or 3. More Chablis like with shells, lemon, orange peel and mild oak. Short to medium finish and acidity is not as sharp. Much more balanced and back in the Chardonnay style one would expect. 90 points
Day 2.5: Really coming together and now is a Premier Cru like Chablis. Shells, minerals, lemon, subtle spice and match stick. Based on day 1 this wine needs a few years of aging. Unless you are a day 2 drinker hold until 2020. 91 points
Day 3: Holly transformation! Even better than day 2.5. More intense on the palate featuring shells, orange peel, mild oak, lemon and sour apple. Balanced and medium plus finish. Similar experience to the first bottle. 92 points
Recommendation: If you are going to drink this on day 1 2 plus hour decant. I would hold these for a few years. One of the biggest transformations from day 1 to day 3 in a good way to date!

1/29/19, 11:14 AM - Yes I am aware this is a Chardonnay from California. You obviously did not read my glowing review on the previous bottle. Had day 1 yesterday been the only experience with this wine I would have never drank a Liquid Farm again. It is why it is important to try a bad experience on day 2 and 3 as I almost always do. 90 points and Chablis like on day 2.

Day 1: Saline, lemon rind, grapefruit and spices. Very simple overall and really disappointed. Palate/finish picks up a bitter quality that is not too appealing. Glad I only bought one bottle. 85 points

Day 2: Why I love the 3 Day Wine Review approach. Paned off as a dude on day 1 this is significantly better on day 2. Vibrant nose of lemon, shell, spice and tangerine. Palate picks up some nice oak/vanilla flavoring and is quite complex. Good acidity and medium plus finish. This would go great with lobster. 91 points
Day 3: Beautiful. Lemon, shells, tangerine and orange peel. Chablis like. Medium finish and good acidy. Quite a transformation over day 1 to 2 and 3. Buy this! 92 points
Recommendation: If you are drinking this on day 1 hold for 2 to 3 years. If you drink it over 3 days you will see an amazing transformation.
  • 3daywinereview.com commented:

1/21/19, 12:02 PM - Just sampled it again today and totally different experience. Much more open and more vibrant. I agree that these will probably need some time and if one was drinking it on day 1 I would give it a good decant.

Tried two of our three bottles. Will return all three. Beautiful nose. Solid on the palate. Deeply offensive, ferric aftertaste. Undrinkable.

Wine Dinner featuring Paella (Margaux's Table, White Bear Lake): This is aweful stuff. This is not French Grenache but some American over the top version of it. Marketing at its finest that they can get $35 a bottle for this. Hot, big and spices. Nothing good here. No surprise the Wine Advocate gave this 95 points. Really guys?

Had this bottle back in March with a terrible review of it but this is completely different and from a much better source! Top five wine of the year for sure. Beautiful nose and palate featuring funk, blueberries, spices and roasted meat. Super complex wine and hitting its peak. Medium to long finish. This is California Syrah at its finest. For the $35 I paid for this it is stealing! Wine of the year for sure when you factor in the price.

Day 2 not as concentrated. This wine is drink me now and consume on day one to maximize the enjoyment. Still good but it lost some of the funk and roasted meat character.

Theme was Chardonnay from anywhere, blind. This didn’t please everyone, but I was quite impressed. Light straw color, complex nose with pears and citrus. Big palate, with some well integrated oak, citrus, sonpme spice. Long finish. Most thought it tasted old world, but voted new world because of the screw cap.

Hennepin Lake Tasting 2018; 10/11/2018-10/14/2018 (Minneapolis, MN): Terrible wine. One of the worst wines of the year candidate. If you are into Orin Swift wines you slam them and don't smell and move the wine in your mouth. Overripe fruit and no acidity. I am not sure how a pro critic could give this above an 85. I will take over for you if you did.
  • 3daywinereview.com commented:

10/14/18, 4:12 PM - J Christopher now you are talking. Here is the deal with these big tastings if you want your wines to show decant them. This wine was a mess. I am not going to buy a bottle of this to try over 3 days. I have yet to have an Orin Swift wine I have ever liked.

10/14/18, 5:23 PM - pdxpinotlover welcome to the world of wine. I have been reviewing wines since 2004 and if I want to give a wine an 80 point score I will. Last time I checked that is a B- which is not bad. Critics have ruined the 100 point scale as a wine needs to be 90 or higher no matter the cost. Looks like you like to critic others reviews but you don't even have many to began with.

To my knowledge, made from 85-yo vines. Had this after dinner over 6+ hours. Initially PnP and then PnV. Definitely in a fruit-forward style, showing some complexity with good structure still evident. Nose of blackberry, dark fruit, hints of spice, and a few hours later showing appealing mochaccino notes. Complex and full-bodied on the palate, with notes of dark currant fruit, brine, baking spices, ink, vanillin and dark licorice. Tannins are just about fully integrated, velvety round texture, low acidity, and ending with good length. Well made, even though my palate seems to be shifting away from these types of reds.
