Sorry to say but this is advanced. Not oxidized but not sound either. The color leans gold. The nose has some cool oyster shell and rosemary notes but also a background hint of flor. The palate is a similar mix of bright, layered Chablis and just emerging oxidative notes. I can drink this as an aperitif no problem, but it sure isn’t magical like this wine can be. Sigh. No score.

5/30/21, 6:26 PM - Agree this is a problem with the 08’s. We opened two bottles side by side. One pale yellow green and one gold, with the aromas to match. Same case, purchased at the same time.

2005 Catherine et Pierre Breton Bourgueil Les Galichets Cabernet Franc
A blend of fruit and funk, together with good acidity, puts this right in our wheelhouse. A fairly small amount overnight in a decanter didn't change much, so drink or hold.

Top notch stuff. Spicy aromas of orange fruit, lemons and cardamom. Tensile but at the same time bordering on chewy citrus juice with a salty pure finish. As I get offers on this man's wines, I wonder: "Should I keep buying these? They are pricey." I only need to uncork one to remind myself the answer.

Saturated ruby to the rim-surprisingly young looking. Blackberry jam and charcoal. Medium weight, great glycerine feel. Perfectly ripe black fruit, some fennel, a bit of olive, natural sweetness balanced by a mineral core. Outstanding bottle that could have easily been held for another decade. This might be one of the best Guigal regular bottlings I've ever had.

1998 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
Beaucastel Dinner at Tiger Mama. In a flight of 93,94,95, 98 it had beter color than the 93 and 94, a little less dark than the 95. Best of the flight with excellent balance, plummy fruit, just enough brett, and a long smooth finish. Drinking great now.

Found and enjoyed your notes because of a shared taste for old Dauvissat and even older Huet. Cheers.

Much richer and more buttery than the last bottle, with hints of crème brûlée, this has lost the chiseled freshness it had before, developing Meursault-like qualities. Plenty of body and length but I miss the fresh citrus notes of its youth. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I expected to - not a criticism as much as personal preference.
  • Mistress of Wine commented:

2/14/18, 5:46 PM - Hmmm. I wonder if your bottle was poorly treated in its childhood or youth, as the few bottles I've tried have not been as advanced as your bottle. Sorry for the campy reference but "sometime in my youth or childhood" is from what movie musical?

Drank over the course of about 4 hours. As before: "Absurdly good. Palest yellow. Honeysuckle, lime zest and lemongrass on the nose. Taut citrus and bright pear with floral nuances. Not the weightiest of wines but it is extremely focused and refreshing. Good heavens I have never had Loire sauvignon like this. I desperately want more." I was able to get two more- thanks to the mistress of wine!

Epic. Nothing more to say. If you don't love this wine, you are wrong.

Light gold. Aromas of candied orange, honey and white flowers. Later, some mineral notes emerged. Great acidity and an endless finish. I am not sure whether aged dry Chenin or Sauvignon Blanc is better with dishes with bitter greens, but this was great. I will plan to keep the last two bottles from this case for a few more years.

In perfect condition as it should be. Pale gold with clean but reticent nose. Exquisit chablis! Paid $44 and I believe the '12 now sells for $65 plus. I stopped buying at after 2010.
