Still very tight and needs a good decant or airing to bring out the pure lime nose. Has particularly good depth of fruit and good length. Very young but lots of potential.

After a very grumpy teen this Volnay is at long last coming out of its dumb phase. Still nose bricking in the colour and the nose is a bit subdued though with some lovely red / black spices, plum some earthy notes. Palate is where the wine has dramatically improved. Now quite a powerful Pinot with lovely depth and length. Tannins are now fine but still there giving excellent structure. Just starting its best years. I’m leaving my last couple for a few years

Lovely mid weight red fruited Pinot. Still quite primary on nose but lovely lifted nose. Palate has great balance and length. Still a bit simple though there’s is hints of complexity building. Still a relative pup, but if you have a few, worth trying one now

Lots of lime and lemon but also maybe a touch of petrol. A richer fuller style of Tassie Riesling. Lovely quite complex palate, nice length and still good soft acid. Think this will be an early drinker.

Perfect village GC. Superb lifted red fruited nose with a wisp of spicy oak. Soft primary fruited palate, lovely length and balance. In style think Fourrier GC and just as good. Lovely .

A beautifully balanced and elegant red fruited burgundy. Lovely length. Fine soft tannins. Midweight. Very drinkable now, but has the balance to drink beautifully for at least a decade. Surprisingly open for a 12 year D’Angerville

Simple sparkling rose sadly. Seems like pulled off lees too early . Disappointing

Exceptional Oz chardonnay just starting its journey into maturity. A previous bottle a couple of years ago was very good, but the fruit seem constrained and the acidity was at the forefront. Like a cool year chablis. That fruit has now come out from the structure and now beautifully balances the lovely crystalline acidity. As well the oak has just about integrated into the wine, giving a lovely spicy vanillan touch to both the white peach nose and palate. Expect it to hit its height in a couple more years if cellared well.

Bright pale transparent red. Lovely lifted red berry nose. Palate is light bodied, slightly underpowered, nice length though. A pretty Pinot. Ready to drink

Still a bit of a baby. Quintessential Barolo nose of tar and roses. Nothing ethereal or complex just an honest neb nose. Palate is still a bit foursquare, lots of black fruit with some serious dry, firm but ripe tannins. Probably needs another 5 years to come into balance. Will always be a bit rustic and foursquare but no worse for that character.

I had this wine 5 years ago and raved about it then. It’s just as good, maybe even better today. Has that quintessential burgundy ability to be light on its feet but also having great and intense, depth of fruit.

Drinking superbly. Lovely exotic nose of tropical fruits plus that characteristic wet wool chenin thing. Gorgeous mid weight palate balances superbly sweetness with razor sharp acidity. Drinks beautifully with blue cheese etc. a real eye opener and a star of the vintage.

Lovely pungent and intense, citrus - orange blossom, lime and talc and mineral notes. Great fruit depth as well as a spiciness, lots of citrus, lovely depth as well as great length. Soft but fresh acid finish. Very impressive

This Descombes Brouilly is just about perfect. Colour is still plum red with no browning. A lovely complex mix of still primary, cherry gamay fruit with an overlay of Indian spices on both nose and palate. Medium bodied, soft acid, but great length. Just about perfect.

Amazing what an extra 2 years ageing can do for a wine. While still a bit oak dominant on the nose along with nougat and white peaches, it’s really filled out on the palate and is now a quite powerful midweight Tassie Chardonnay . Good depth of fruit and excellent acidity says this won’t fall apart too soon, just needs another year for the oak to fully integrate.

A lovely red fruited, light to just midweight Morgon. Very red fruit dominant, nothing meaty here. Similar on the palate, lovely soft pillowy red fruits, no tannins to speak of and a nice soft acid finish. I think this is a ready to drink vintage for Lapierre. Does remind me in many ways of Foillard Morgon which is no small compliment.

Still impressive purple, plum colour of a younger wine. Fresh, lifted, plummy, licorice and some stalkiness on nose. Powerful young palate, midweight to fuller bodied, strong fruit and fairly high acid give it a crispness that’s needed to counterbalance all that fruit. Already thrown a big crust. Needs another 3-5 years to settle down and gain complexity . Still quite impressive

Lovely lifted ethereal red fruited nose with a note of spice and earth. Similar palate , at least mid weight, at long last the fruit is coming out and balancing the acid. Early in its development but clearly a success in a difficult vintage. Very impressive

Yep seriously grand cru quality. Powerful wine though still clearly chambolle with its lovely red fruits and stupendous length. Quite full bodied but still light of weight - a real yin and Yang. Top wine

On a slow decline. Fruit has dried out in mid palate. Never really gained the complexity I expected. Maybe the relatively young vines are the cause. Better a year ago

Translucent colour, reinforcing minimal extraction. Really lifted red fruit and roses nose, quite ethereal, reminded me more of a Chambolle than Barolo. Similar on the palate , light to medium weight , fruit is a bit clenched and there is an intriguing Campari type bitterness ( which is a positive rather than negative). Probably needs to fill out a little more on mid palate, nice ripe tannins. Never will be a long keeper, but I like the style

Just a beautiful red fruited, very aromatic and pure nose. Palate is equally ethereal. Not quite midweight, but with lots of spicy red raspberry fruit. Tannins ripe and resolved. Lovely length with good fresh acidity to boot. Reminds me of a Chatto Pinot for style and weight, or a MacForbes with more power and grunt. Very impressive. Still quite primary so will easily go another 5 years

Lovely ethereal red fruited pinot. In the past I have found many HH pinots to be made in the bigger brawnier Central Otago style. This is not. Very lifted and complex red fruit and spice nose. Similar just midweight palate driving again the red pinot fruit in a style more reminiscent of Chatto and Giant Steps Pinots. I like the balance between intensity of fruit, lovely soft ripe tannins and a long finish. Excellent

A lovely ethereal style of Morgon from Burgaud in this vintage. None of that meaty, slightly extracted, intense style you often find. Very red fruited, quite transparent both in colour and body on the palate. In some ways more a chambolle village style, than a Beaujolais, though that lovely gamay crispness on the finish draws you Morgon. A lovely, long and beautifully balanced top class Beaujolais

Lovely aged Hunter semillon. From a warmer year, this wine has developed pretty quickly in the last couple of years and is now fully ready to drink. Some lemon with now more aged honey and butter on nose. Quite complex. Quite a full bodied palate and more say white burgundy than Chablis in style.. Big, relatively rich fruit, with now soft acid finish. Ready to drink.

Quite dark plum and violet colour, but also quite transparent. Lifted fruit dominant nose, lots of plum but also macerated cherries. No green herbaceous notes from the nearly 100% whole bunch. Lovely mid weight palate, beautifully balanced and in some ways quite ethereal. Still very primary and needs another 5 years to get some complexity. But the balance will ensure it will go the distance .

Just a beautiful quintessential Clare riesling. Intense lime, talc, citrus nose. Very pure. No kero. Similar on palate. It’s the purity of fruit within a lovely acid and fresh structure with length to burn that makes this wine and this year so special. Probably the best PH from Grosset I have had. Bravo. It will last another decade though not sure it will be any better than it currently is.

Lovely lifted red berry and forestry nose. Palate is midweight very Beaune in its elegant, quite transparent feel. Nothing muscular or butch here. Tannins are very fine and resolved. Don’t see any point keeping this much longer though it’s balance will mean no problems pulling one out in 5 years time, though not sure it would be any better. A loveLy Pernard.

Has improved out of sight since my last bottle over 2 years ago. Nose is still a bit subdued, though with swirling some nice Asian spices, a bit of whole bunch thing. It’s on the palate it’s really singing. No longer grumpy and a bit withdrawn and grumpy. It is now a lovely elegant pure fruited burg with really, really fine ripe tannins. Sort of tastes like a chambolle, smells like a NSG. Ready to go. Excellent .

Still pale honey with some green hints. Nose like the palate reflects the colour. Still quite reserved. Some Gunflint, matchstick notes with lemon and white peach on the nose. The palate follows the nose, pure chardonnay fruit with no oak artifice. Quite linear and pure. Maybe a bit simple at the moment but has the depth of fruit and structure to improve greatly with more age. Not one of the chardonnays that is falling apart after 5 years.

Still quite dark red. Thrown a lot of crust so needed decanting. I was expecting a rustic Grenache based wine. What I got was much more sophisticated. Lovely complex plum, earthy meaty flavours ( think top quality Shiraz), with lovely balance and great length. Still has a lot of life in it so would be happy to see another bottle on its 25th birthday.

This bojo is coming on very nicely. If anything, it is maturing faster than I expected, with already a fruit/tannin softness. However it is beautifully balanced, and currently quite seductive. While I’m sure it’s got another 5 years at least in it not sure it will mature anything better than it currently is.

Not a bad Tassie sparkling. Lacks the complexity on nose and palate of the better Tassie vintage sparklers. This is a very linear, very fruit based bubbly, tastes more like a straight young chardonnay bubbly . No real yeast or lees character. But makes a great aperitif style bubbly. Would be excellent with oysters.
