Tastes exactly what you would expect a $10 wine to taste like. Definitely better than a bottom shelf wine, but not especially memorable. Dark color, pleasing nose with some dark fruit and cassis. More dark fruit on the palate. Surprisingly, the tannins are still assertive and not fully integrated; the wine softens a bit after being opened for an hour or so. Moderate finish. Good varietal character, but lacks complexity and depth. Ordinary, but pleasant enough.

Good value for the money. Medium color, faint, but pleasant nose. Lots of chewy fruit on the palate, smooth medium finish. Well made, no glaring faults. A bit lacking in depth and complexity, but enjoyable. Not as forceful as most Malbecs. You can drink this by itself, but it also complements food quite well. Don't set unrealistic expectations, and you will enjoy this.

Another "bargain bin" find- although this one was not such a bargain. Good color, attractive nose. Not very fruity, many off-notes on the palate. Just seems disjointed and not very attractive. Can't really put my finger on it, but this is just not right for a wine in its price range. Not horrible, but not something I'd buy again at any price.

Fished out of the local grocery store's "bargain bin." Not really certain why it was there; usually it contains wines that are near the end of their drinking window. This has plenty of life left in it.

In many ways, this is a pretty typical mid-range New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Medium color, faint nose. Lots of fruit on the palate. Crisp, rounded, well-balanced, with some depth. Good acidity. Clean finish. Seems to have a touch of sweetness. Very nice for sipping on its own. Overall, a nice, tasty wine.

Not sure what goes into this blend. Light in color, very faint flowery nose. On the palate it has a smooth, moderate mouthfeel, with a lot of citrus, apple, and maybe even a bit of pineapple. It is so fruity, it almost tastes off-dry. But it has some tannins and enough acidity to keep it honest. Very nice finish. Not a world-beater, but very pleasant sipping wine. Thumbs up!

For an inexpensive Bordeaux, this is pretty good. Dark color, intriguing nose with herbal tones. Not overly fruity, some tannic structure, moderate acidity. Fairly long, smooth finish. This wine shows good Bordeaux character, but is not very complex. But there's nothing wrong with it, and it is enjoyable drinking.

Dark color, assertive, fruity nose. Rich mouthfeel, tons of fruit - perhaps too much fruit. Does finish well. Lots of black cherry. Not exactly jammy or syrupy, but one of those dry wines that is so fruity it almost tastes sweet. Must admit that wines like this are not my cup of tea, but I can see why some people might like it.

Pale straw color, flowery nose with a hint of pineapple. Crisp, with lots of citrus on the palate. Smooth finish. This is quite good. A bit tart, so probably a better food wine than a sipper.

Not your typical Cabernet Sauvignon, but enjoyable, nonetheless. Very dark color, attractive, fruity nose. Tons of fruit on the palate - plums, blackberries, loganberries - maybe a bit too fruity for my taste. But a fairly assertive tannic structure and a fair amount of acidity prevents it from being too jammy. Smooth finish. Soft and easy drinking. Not made for the long haul.

I got this as part of a promotion Macy's Wine Cellars was having - six bottles for $49.98, or something like that. Really wasn't expecting much, but this is pretty good. Great color, almost no nose to speak of. But a rich, soft mouthfeel, with a plethora of dark, luscious fruit. Adequate acidity, very smooth finish. Good varietal character. Not much complexity, but easy drinking and enjoyable. If the other five bottles are this good, I'll have gotten more than my money's worth. This drinks like a $20-$25 wine.

Quite honestly, I was not overly impressed by this. There's nothing terribly wrong with it, but not much that's especially good, either. While a cut above your typical bottom shelf Cab, it is undistinguished. Good dark color, fruity nose with a bit of oak, and maybe just a hint of herbs and menthol. But it falls flat on the palate; not offensive, but not tasty. Neither fruit, nor tannins, nor mineral elements are prominent. It's just sort of neutral. Doesn't earn its $13 price tag.

Always reliable, vintage after vintage. Solid, well-made wine that is seldom memorable, but never really disappoints. Just good decent wine at a fair price. Dark color, attractive nose, medium-bodied, some depth, not overly complex. Good food wine.

Fished this out of the closeout bin at my local grocery store for $5. It's actually quite good. Nice color, attractive apple nose. Surprisingly full mouthfeel, quite dry but some fruit evident, especially on the finish. Good depth, excellent varietal characteristics - you wouldn't confuse this with anything else. Fairly classic California Chardonnay that drinks above its class, even at full retail. Wouldn't hold much longer, though.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of South American Malbec. That being said, this is pretty good. Some herbal notes in the nose. Medium bodied, not overly fruity, some tannic structure and oak are evident. Quite dry, adequate acidity. Moderate finish. Simple, deep flavors that do not demand one's attention. Easy drinking, but a decent food wine as well. Thumbs up!

Very nice indeed. Dark color, rather faint nose. Medium-bodied, soft mouthfeel, good depth with lots of dark fruit, but not overly complex. Average acidity, some oak evident. Fairly long smooth finish. My idea of what a California Cab should taste like.

For an inexpensive wine ($13), this is really, really good. Dark color, attractive nose. Medium-bodied. not overly fruity. Rather lean in style, but nicely balanced. Moderate finish. This wine is not overpowering, but has good tannic structure and the perfect degree of acidity. It is really pleasant drinking. Although almost seven years old, it still tastes young and vigorous. Will last several more years.

Not bad at all. Screw cap. Fine dark color, a bit of oak on the nose. Medium-body, adequate fruit, good acidity. More oak in the nose than on the palate. Lean style. Finishes well. Not a lot of depth or complexity, but tasty and easy drinking. Bargain in its price range.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in this. Nice dark color and an attractive nose. Soft mouthfeel without sufficient acidity or tannins to add balance. Tons of dark fruit flavors, making it seem there is some residual sweetness when the wine is actually quite dry. I'm sure there are people who like this style of Cabernet, but I am not one of them. Drinkable enough, but at its price point (around $25), this is no bargain. Would drink up, because this will not last long.

Excellent. Since tomorrow is my birthday, a friend of mine treated me to lunch today. We split a bottle of this at Loukinens' on 4th, one of the few restaurants in Springfield, IL with a really good wine list. This wine is still young and vigorous (Chardonnay lasts a lot longer than most people believe), and she and I both loved it. Medium color, very assertive nose of apple and pear. Medium bodied, not overly fruity, tannins fully resolved. Overall, the mouthfeel is rather soft, but there is enough acidity left to keep it crisp. Finishes beautifully. Several years of drinking ahead for this one. Great bargain if you can find it.

Fished this out of the bargain bin at the local grocery store for four bucks. After nearly eight years, it is still going strong! Medium color, attractive honey-apple scented nose. Medium bodied, nice balance between fruit, tannins, and acidity. Smooth finish. Not a world-beater, but very pleasant drinking. Snagged a bargain with this one!

One seldom sees Petit Verdot bottled as a varietal, which is a shame, because it can make very good wine. This particular example exceeded my expectations. The color is dark and inky; it has a fairly strong, fruity nose, which was difficult to resolve into its components. Fairly rich mouthfeel, with a lot of dark fruit flavors, blackberry predominating, and some pepper on the finish. Still somewhat tannic, which leads me to believe that it will improve with a couple of more years of bottle age.

Medium color, a little grass, herbs, green pepper on the nose. Very soft, but with a fairly substantial mouthfeel, though overly fruity, for my taste at least. Finishes smoothly without any off-flavors or bitterness. Another cotton-candy like wine with little to distinguish itself. At least it's drinkable.

Medium color, not much on the nose. Despite label claims that it is "deep. dark, and rich" it is actually very lightweight for a Syrah, although it does exhibit a bit a varietal character. Smooth and bland, it isn't horrible, but it isn't exceptional, either. Quite ordinary.

Was not very impressed by this offering. The wine has nice color, and a pleasant, cherry-scented nose. But in the mouth it is flabby, sweetish, and overly fruity. I could not detect any oak, and the level of acidity was very low. It is what I call a "cotton candy wine." There are people who like these soft, almost cloying wines, but I am not one of them. Not horrible, but not very memorable.

Have no idea what goes into this blend, but it is actually quite nice for what it is. Dark color, attractive nose, fairly rich mouthfeel. Dry, but adequate fruit. Smooth finish. A good example of a rustic Italian country wine of modest pedigree. Paired well with cheese ravioli, and is pleasant to drink on its own.

This certainly doesn't taste like the Rioja I remember from the 70s! That was heady, oaky, manly stuff that needed a decade or more of bottle aging.
This wine has decent dark color, and quite a complex nose. Spice, herbs, menthol, and just the faintest hint of oak. Actually quite light-bodied, with a bit of fruit, and not much oak at all. Sigh. There is some tannic structure in evidence, most noticeable on the finish, which is fairly long. A bit thin. All in all, not a bad wine, but if I had not seen the label, I would never have pegged this as a Rioja. Tastes more like a nondescript California blend.

One of the more difficult things to do in the wine world is to find a good, inexpensive Pinot Noir. This one is, perhaps, a bit better than most. On the nose I get mostly herbs and grass, a little leather and tobacco, and maybe a bit of strawberry peeking through. The color is medium to light. Medium-bodied, quite dry, not overly fruity. There is a little bitterness and some heat on the finish, which is odd, as it is only 13.5% ABV. This wine does display varietal character, but not much complexity or depth. Drinkable, not memorable.
