It’s big and begs for food. Nose of dark berries, tar, violets. Must mention the huge amount of spice and acid on the palate intitially, fruits are a bit muted at the moment. Needs another few years to develop. Stalky black cherry, plums are sitting pretty for now.

Sweet strawberry/raspberry nose, a little floral and peachy, faint vanilla.
Palate of crispy raspberry, red cherry, spice, plenty of heat and acid in the finish. Certainly a food wine.
This PN won’t win many awards but good for a quaff with a casual dinner.

Good nose, violets, roses, plums, blackberry, spice.
Bright fruity palate, less development than I expected. Blackberry, black cherry, slight caramelised stone fruit, soft oak.
Very round mouthfeel, the classic McLaren Vale chocolate really coats the middle palate and finish.

Fantastic development. Typical McLaren Vale - nose of dark chocolate, blueberry, clove, ginger, blackberry. Heavy acid on the palate - smoothed down over an hour - blackberry, black pepper, dense forest floor, tannins take a while to kick in but are still quite drying. Plenty of heat. Still at a point of enjoying it without food. I imagine a steak would help cool down the acid and heat.

Heavy cassis and green tobacco on the nose, cedar, eucalyptus.
Quite a plummy palate, blackcurrant, undergrowth in the finish. Doesn’t have even close to the structure I would have assumed from a 2010. This bottle may have aged a little bit too fast. Not without it’s merits, though.

Strong black cherry on the nose, rose musk, spice, raspberry.
Very silky on the palate, not as bright as the nose. Glacé cherry, strawberry, subtle earthiness. I expected a bit more personality considering the name attached.

I’ll always prefer the original St Hubert’s range but these are good for a quaff. Solid nose of musk, black cherry, candied raspberry.
Quite a full, sweet palate - raspberry jam, glacé cherry, slight herbal finish, moderate acid.

Didn’t think I’d like this so much.
Nose of baked lemon cake, cheese, green twig, baked stone fruit.
Delicate palate, amazing balance between fruit and acid. Stone fruit, melon, rich herbs.
Certainly pairs well will food but still amazing depth by itself.

I was nervous as to how the ‘12 would pair up to the ‘13 - white spiced nose, baked plum, green undergrowth. Luscious palate, a little muddled at this moment but will develop. Black currant, chocolate, tobacco, black cherry. Just as good as the ‘12 or slightly under - time will tell.

I generally like The Footbolt for a quaff. Relatively consistent, good QPR - even better with a bit of development.
Typical ripe dark berries and rich red cherries on the nose, chocolate, undergrowth, leather. A bit denser than the younger vintages.
Decent palate, a little jammy and muddled. Dark fruits, plums initially, cherries in the finish, a lingering bottle funk. Still relatively tight tannins which could still stand to have some time to relax but I’m not convinced it’ll show too much more.

Grassy palate, citrus rind, apple core, flint. Very cool, very interesting, not for those who want the super fruity SB’s.

One of Twelftree’s lighter Grenache releases. Jammy red berries on the nose, blackcurrant, boysenberry, ripe blueberry, heavy spice. Palate is unusually developed - similar jammy fruits, cheesy funk, alcohol. I prefer the heavier Twelftree wines but this is not without its quaffable merits.

A relatively savoury nose for a McLaren Vale Shiraz. Somewhat redder fruits than I expected, overripe blackberry, raspberry, cocoa, very green, stalky, subtle violets. Took a while for the palate to properly develop, its similar in the fruit profile, white pepper, finish is thinner than I expected considering the detail in the nose. Nevertheless it gets a 91 for the QPR alone.

Big fan of this PN.
Nose - rich black cherry, raspberry jam, blackberry jam, musk candy, sweet spice.
Palate - Similar fruits, young fibrous oak, leaves, glacé cherry, subtle fruits and warmth in the finish.
Strong, chalky tannic structure and some greener aspect to the profile suggest this could reward from a few more years on its side.
