Decanted for two hours and consumed over the following three without significant change over the evening. Dark and inky in the glass with aromas of dark fruit, toasted bread and violets. A striking number of flavors were present including black fruits, chocolate, baking spice, caramel, cocoa and rosemary. Rich and brooding with supple and well-integrated tannins. Sophisticated, lush, appealing and polished with a generous, expansive finish. Mature, but with many years of life remaining. Exquisite!

7/31/21, 9:33 AM - It has entered the "drinking window" with a solid 7-10 years of life remaining IMHO.

I generally like to age Arrowood cabs, but so glad I made an exception in this case. Slow ox for two hours and consumed over two days. Deep, dark purple in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits, violets and toasted bread. Flavors of black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and licorice. Thick, round and full mouthfeel. Polished and reasonably balanced at this young age with a smooth, memorable finish. This wine competes with cabs at twice the price and outshines many.

Slow-ox for three hours and consumed over the following two. Served chilled at 62 degrees. Deep violet in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits and rose pedals. Black and blue fruits throughout the evening. Medium to full-bodied, balanced and polished. Smooth, lingering finish. Plenty of life left and an excellent QPR.

1/30/21, 8:46 AM - This wine was on my radar early on but I too didn't purchase enough when it was readily available. A beautiful wine that deserved some time in the cellar!

Has developed flawlessly since the last bottle. Balanced, integrated and ready for enjoyment. Paired well with chicken picatta. Yummy!

Rated 94 points by RP. Wonderful cab served at my BD dinner with family. Decanted for an hour plus and consumed over the following two. Dark, almost black in the glass. Violets, toasted bread and rose petal aromas with elements of plum, cassis and chocolate weaving through. Flavors included both blue and black fruits, vanilla, anise, dark chocolate and cinnamon delivered on a round and rich mouthfeel with no rough edges. Polished, silky, elegant and appealing texture finishing generously and lingering for 30+ seconds. The complete package and an excellent QPR.

1/17/20, 9:10 AM - My record says $49.97, which I believe is below most vendors on Wine Searcher. It stands up well to wines costing significantly more.

Decent entry-level cab with the majority of fruit sourced from Monterrey County with a smaller amount from Napa County. Slow ox for an hour. Garnet red in the glass. Aromas of petrol, violets and licorice that carried to the palate while adding a distinct raisin element along with tart cherry. Reasonably well-balanced and approachable with a short to medium finish.
  • Tahlequahdave1972 commented:

12/18/19, 11:16 AM - I also wondered that, because I purchased on the basis of it being a Napa cab. What I quoted was described on the label and therefore the wine should have been listed as California or Monterrey, but not Napa...

Classic Cali cab. Decanted for an hour and a half and probably should have doubled that time. Initially palate was dominated by anise and baking spices before revealing some layered complexity three hours after opening. Black pepper, chocolate, black and blue fruits with just a hint of cedar. Medium-bodied, polished, elegant and refined with a moderately-long finish. Has a long life ahead. Great wine!

10/23/19, 6:38 AM - I've found this to be the case with several of the more established wineries that I follow. The reviewers don't seem to care about consistency...just the next WOW vintage or varietal.

2013 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
Oh, to know when to open a wine or to continue to let it rest. This bottle was allowed to slow ox for an hour before being poured. Looking back, should have been decanted for several hours before drinking. Wonderful, classic nose of dark fruits, cassis, vanilla and fig. Restrained flavors of cherry, plum, chocolate, cedar, coffee, dark pepper and cocoa. Light, sublime mouthfeel as none of the elements had come together, leaving the impression that the wine was watery, unresolved and didn't have an idea what it wanted to be. The last few sips were much more cabernet-like, leading us to believe we didn't give the wine a fair chance by consuming so quickly. I'll hold off rating this wine while recommending that additional bottles lay down for several more years. There must be potential here when rated 93 points by JS and 95 points by AG.

4/5/18, 8:39 AM - Thanks for the insight and recommendation. I live on a ranch owned by my son and when he hosts a dinner there is often too little time to select and pair a wine with dinner. I try to keep wines on hand that require little thought for time constraints like this. The other bottles of this beauty will be cellared for years to come. Cheers!

Ruth's Chris Taste Maker Dinner paired with a chocolate dacquoise torte. Seldom promoted as a Montelena varietal, this wine was a fitting and tasty end to a night of great food and wine. The petite sirah presented a nose of sweet perfume and a hint of butterscotch. A mouthful of plum, black cherry, fig and dark chocolate was followed by a short, smooth and fully integrated finish. Yummie!

3/22/18, 7:36 AM - The note was a combination of six persons' opinions at our table. Sorry the wine didn't measure up to our experiences, although the word "short" was intentionally included in the description of the finish. The food pairings also enhance the wine which is why we enjoy these types of settings.

Red
2010 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville
The wine was decanted for an hour and consumed over the next two. Aromas of red fruit and licorice, eucalyptus, cassis and floral notes. Flavors were expressive and included cherry, black fruits, coffee, dark pepper and hints of raspberry and tobacco. A medium mouthfeel that bordered on rich with an appealing, silky texture that was fully resolved and balanced. Finish was sustained, smooth and lingering. This wine is in a very good place and the drinking window is open. An exquisite, lovely offering. Excellent Cali cabernet. 92+

2/20/18, 4:56 PM - This wine was a challenge. Decanted for an hour but should have been two to four hours. Took some time for the fruit to step forward to balance the oak. The rest became history though. My wife loved it and she is much more patient than me.

No doubting the quality and drinkability of this offering. Aerated but not decanted. Pale yellow color. Tropical notes on the nose with additional lemon, pineapple and honeysuckle elements. Flavors follow the nose while adding green apples, pears and wet stone nuances. Medium full body with a pleasing, flavorful, lingering finish. In my never ending search for quality California chardonnay, this straight forward entry checks all the boxes. Agree with James Suckling: 93 points. Wonderful! I'll be getting more...

Pretty light for a Napa cab, I could not pinpoint any obvious flaws or extreme praise specific to this wine. The nose was appealing, the flavor profile was balanced with good fruit, some acidity and solid tannins. Easy drinking, almost silky in texture. Not an overpowering "big" cabernet but approachable and pleasing, especially at this price point.
  • Tahlequahdave1972 commented:

6/30/17, 6:47 AM - My wife and I split a bottle of 2014 Oberon last night while watching a movie. Really fills the "hole" between the entry level cabs and those that we would prefer to drink every day.

I'm probably going against the flow when it comes to this wine, but this cabernet, I believe, was the last produced by Dick Arrowood at his namesake winery in Sonoma. The wine was aerated and decanted for an hour plus. Color was deep dark purple, almost black. The nose offered aromas of pepper, blackberry, plum and floral notes. A full mouth feel with cherry, boysenberry, raspberry, earth, vanilla and graphite on the palate. All elements came together after 30 minutes in the glass. Beautifully balanced with sufficient tannic structure, oak in the right measure and alcohol residing quietly in the background. This wine reminded me of the reserve bottlings from this producer that are made to age 20 years. Wonderful! Ready to drink.
