Decanted for an hour plus and consumed over the following three. Aromas included red fruit, cinnamon and violet notes that carried to the palate while adding cherry, baking spice, anise, cocoa and dark pepper. Vibrant, fruit forward with solid depth. Balanced, polished and in a very good place for current consumption. Generous finish. Highly recommend!

Pop 'n Pour. Powerful yet graceful. Well balanced, good acidity and enough structure to go for years. Tannins added a spice that maintained interest without being front and center. Long, memorable finish. Consumed over three hours without significant change. A real winner!

Contrary to many of the CT reviews for this bottling, I found this wine met/exceeded my expectations. Consumed over two days with only marginal change on day two. Classic Napa Valley cabernet displaying black fruit, cinnamon, caramel and earthy flavors along with hints of glycerin, tobacco and blueberry. Medium acidity with good structure and balance. Medium-long and lingering finish with no heat. Unfiltered, for sure, but a reasonable QPR also. Two thumbs up!

Slow ox for three hours and consumed over the following two. Nose was a little subdued throughout the evening. The flavor profile was basically one dimensional with a strong dark cherry licorice element. Tannins were tame, low acidity; drinkable, but far from expected from this producer. Chalk this one up to bottle variance.

Decanted 4+ hours. Garnet red in the glass. Beautiful aromas of black and blue fruits, eucalyptus and toasted bread. Predominate flavors of cherry, plum, blackcurrants and chocolate with secondary flavors of mocha, toasted caramel, tobacco and vanilla. Medium-full mouthfeel, balanced, polished, silky and elegant texture. Memorable, moderately long finish. More old world style, similar to an aged Bordeaux. Absolutely lovely!

Medium-full mouthfeel with a structured, balanced and polished texture. Lingering, moderately long finish. Estate fruit. Will hold for another ten years.

PNP. Inviting aromas followed by a wonderful Napa cab mouthfeel. Full, rich and well balanced thru the finish. By Napa standards, this is a "bargain." Should continue to develop with very good upside potential.

Decanted for two hours and consumed over the following three. Embodies so much of what is good/great about 2013 Napa Valley wines. Structured, bold and rich. Just now gaining balance and resolution. Full-bodied with dusty tannins ever present. Black & blue fruits, cherry, baking spices and cola. Appealing. Firm. Impressive. Years of life ahead in a proper cellar.

Slow ox for an hour and consumed over the following three. Dark violet in the glass. Distinctly black fruit aromas. Plum, blackcurrant, blackberry, dark pepper, coffee and charcoal flavors. Fruit, tannins and acidity nicely balanced, approaching resolution. Solid, lingering finish. Wish all my wines aged this elegantly. Wonderful!

Opened with dinner at Katherine's in Mesquite Nevada. Young but approachable. Aromas of lemon, lime and Creme Brule that carry through on the palate along with a tart white flower element adding complexity. Nice acidity and even some mineral notes while downplaying emphasis on oakey butter. Fresh, appealing and slightly different from previous versions.

Slow ox for an hour and consumed over three hours. Dark violet/purple in the glass. Aromatic with red and blue fruits on the nose. Nicely balanced on the palate with sweet cherry, licorice, plum and chocolate "sage" flavors, with sufficient acidity and tannic structure supporting the fruit. Smooth, elegant finish. Just enough spiciness to keep this wine interesting throughout the evening. Excellent wine and just bearly short of outstanding!

Opened for an hour prior to pouring. Deep violet in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits, coconut and cassis. Blackcurrants, chocolate, mocha and hints of anise and dark pepper flavors. Medium to full bodied, nicely structured and balanced. Medium length finish that was appealing and smooth. Received as a gift but I'd recommend finding a few for the cellar.

Opened for an hour and aerated upon pouring. Aromas of white flowers, saline and guava fruit. Soft entry that leads to an "explosion" of flavors including butter toffee, lemon, lime and the afore mentioned guava. So approachable currently but will also benefit from a little more time in the bottle. Served with lemon chicken piccata, mashed potatoes and green beans. Yummie!

Flavors predominately blue fruit with cola, graphite, mocha and cedar/oak intertwined. Medium-rich mouthfeel, well-balanced, velvety and appealing with a smooth, silky finish. Not much change over the evening. Noticeable consistency with the pricier "cousins."

Decanted for two hours and consumed over the following two. Best results were attained when served at 60 degrees. Ruby red in the glass with a "creamy thickness" I've seldom seen with Napa cabs..but it was only a distraction. Dark cherry and floral aromas. There was a subtle fruit forwardness to the juice initially but all elements came into balance shortly thereafter. Fresh and complex, with flavors of dark and red fruits, cola, chocolate mocha and cinnamon. Rich, elegant and polished with dusty tannins and sufficient acidity to go for years in the cellar. Moderately long and enjoyable finish. Will benefit from at least another year in the bottle but really approachable now with decent exposure to air.

Always a preferred wine when looking for an under $40 Napa cab. PNP so the nose was a little closed initially before revealing scents of violet and dark fruits. Consumed over three hours. Nicely balanced and discreetly complemented with supporting tannins and acidity. Flavors of plum, boysenberry, dark licorice and just a hint of sweet vanilla. Solid, lingering finish. If you enjoy young wines, this is the ticket, although it should age well for at least five years. Good QPR.

A quality cuvee produced from a challenging harvest, this wine appears to buck the overall trend for this vintage. From the aromatics to the deep, rich mouthfeel with flavors of dark fruits, baking spice, coffee and sage to the elegant, lingering finish, the wine exhibits an approachable nature with significant complexity. PNP and consumed over two plus hours. Ready to be enjoyed!

Lovely cabernet that is approachable now but has the stuff to go many years. PNP but consumed over two days. Dark violet in the glass with aromas of black fruit and toasted bread. Black fruits, cola, tobacco, graphite and vanilla flavors; medium mouthfeel that delivers a structured, refined and balanced texture. Silky smooth finish that lingers for thirty seconds. This is a beauty that is approachable now with air (an hour or two) but should age well in a proper cellar.

I generally like to age Arrowood cabs, but so glad I made an exception in this case. Slow ox for two hours and consumed over two days. Deep, dark purple in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits, violets and toasted bread. Flavors of black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and licorice. Thick, round and full mouthfeel. Polished and reasonably balanced at this young age with a smooth, memorable finish. This wine competes with cabs at twice the price and outshines many.

Decanted for two hours and it really hit its' stride at four hours. Dark purple in the glass with dark fruit, coconut and floral aromas. Black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, vanilla and graphite with the Stags' Leap terroir ever present. Medium-full, thick and rich mouthfeel and a silky, refined texture. The finish was initially muted before expanding to a lingering, impressive and generous experience at hour four. Has many years of life left and requires patience if drinking currently. Two thumbs up!

Soft aromas with a hint of bell pepper and earth leading to flavors of plum, blackberry, pepper, baking spice and licorice. Well balanced with soft tannins and a rich mouthfeel. Some secondary notes already evident, speaking to the complexity this wine offers. Medium-long finish that keeps the gaps between sips ever so interesting. This is a winner with plenty of life ahead. A wonderful cab that speaks volumes about Cali cabs. Opened and then recorked for ten hours. Dark berries and floral aromas. Impeccably balanced on the palate delivering flavors of plum, dark licorice, anise, cocoa and boysenberry. Medium-full, rich and concentrated with tannins adding a silky, velvety texture leading to a moderately long, impressive finish. Elegant and appealing. Beautiful!

On the lower price scale for Napa cabs, this version does a very good job of delivering the goods at a reasonable QPR. Very dark in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits that lead to flavors of blackberry, anise, plum, chocolate and baking spice. Medium-full mouthfeel that is appealing, focused and neatly refined at such a young age. Smooth, balanced and satisfying finish. Benefits from a minimum one hour decant with an upside potential for waiting a couple of years.

Fresh, crisp and inviting. Predominately lemon/lime and green apple flavors with very little grapefruit as is common with many of the New Zealand versions. My personal preference is limited grapefruit flavors, so this SB hits the right spot. Drinkable now with a few years of life in a proper cellar. Decent QPR. Yummie!

This is all about potential. Rated 95 by JS. Decanted for two hours and consumed over the following three. Aromas of blackberry, floral and earthy tones needed coaxing but came through toward the end of the evening. Smooth, attractive body that's just now developing with flavors of dark cherry, graphite, raspberry and semi sweet plum. Good acidity and tannic structure for future development. Nice finish. Best glass was the last. Three years from now and this will be rocking, especially at this price point.

This wine was a conundrum for me. Slow-ox for two hours and consumed over two days. Very aromatic, almost intoxicating with red fruit and floral notes. Entry showed potential with very drying tannins following on the palate that overwhelmed the flavor profile. Mid palate was somewhat thin leading to a relatively lively, hot finish. I poured out most of the last glass. Not much difference between day one and day two. I noticed the wide difference of CT opinions and lean toward bottle variance in this case.

PNP initially, then consumed over three hours. Dark violet in the glass with aromas of rose petals, coconut and blueberry. Medium mouthfeel, dusty tannins, refined and elegant; much of what I expected from the Stags Leap appellation with flavors of blue fruits, baking spices, dark pepper and cocoa. Medium length finish. Rated 90 by WE. This wine just didn't "float my boat" or maintain my interest over time.

"Reasonably" priced cabs from Napa/Sonoma are becoming more difficult to find but there are a few out there that can be counted upon vintage after vintage. This Decoy cab from Duckhorn qualifies...

Sure, this wine is pretty much one dimensional with flavors of cherry, blue fruits, cedar/oak and vanilla delivered on a medium body frame with just enough structure to last a couple of years. There is a subtle "hole" mid-palate that 3-6 months of bottle aging will likely fill. Finish is short but smooth. Rated 90 points by WW. There is some upside potential here and, if the price is right, a good QPR.

Decanted for two hours and consumed over the following three. Deep violet in the glass with aromas of dark fruits, toasted bread and earth tones. Big, round, medium-full mouthfeel delivering flavors of black fruits, spice, dark chocolate, cedar and tea. Polished, with sufficient acidity and tannic structure to go for years. Moderately long finish with a hint of mint and menthol as mentioned by another CT reviewer.

Dick Arrowood wines are made for aging and this cab is no exception. Those willing to wait will be rewarded, but it is a challenge to keep from raiding the cellar early. Decant and enjoy!

Decanted for four hours and consumed over the following three. Dark purple in the glass. Interesting aromas starting with wood, sage and a hint of flint before morphing into more cabernet notes of cherry pie and dark fruits. Oak and cedar on the palate along with white pepper, cola, licorice and cherry. Actually pretty intense and thick mouthfeel leading to a structured, acidic, yet velvety texture that was appealing in the Montelena old world style. The finish was moderately long with a tartness not found in other vintages of the estate bottling that I've sampled. Knowing that 2011 was a challenging year in Napa Valley, this effort is consistent with my expectations. Not the best, but an excellent effort none the less.
