January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): Interesting wine, very earthy, heavy mushroom notes, forest floor, stones, shale some shoe leather too. I think it suffered a bit from being so young and needs to age more to bring out it's full potential.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): Very nice wine with some stony notes, black fruit, cassis, oak and cardamom notes. I think this could have stood another 4hrs of decanting or 5 more years in the cellar. Pretty young and primary right now but will strut its stuff shortly.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): I think this wine, as good as it was, suffered from youth. It was a bit wound up and unyielding but the underlying goods merit the rating. I think this will flesh out quite nicely in say 5-10 years.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. Black currant (cassis), raspberry, dust, coffee and cedar on the nose and they transfer to the palate as it tastes like black currant (cassis), raspberry, dust, coffee, cedar and black pepper. The body is full. The wine has a very polished texture and finishes long. The wine has medium-low acidity.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): This started off very nice, menthol, charred meat, black cherry, slight oakiness, it faded and started to close up a bit after aerating in the glass for 15 minutes. Still a nice drink.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): Golden colored and showing its maturity, this was an enjoyable wine that had some interesting tea leaf and not quite fresh cut flower notes. A touch long in the tooth but still fairly vivacious. Tasty.

January Wine Group Dinner (Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn): Light and feminine in nature, nose was wonderful, full of leather, fresh cut violets, lavender and berries. This is a thinkers wine, as you anticipate the next sip to see what has changed, the wine evolved slowly but steadily and no two sips were the same. Wonderful.

Dark and brooding, this needs copious aeration to unlock the wonderful black fruits within. Large notes of plums, black raspberry, Creme de cocoa, fresh brewed espresso and roasted hazelnut. The wine evolves slowly in the decanter and the last sip is the best. Needs 5 years in the cellar.

Past its prime but interesting. Notes of beef blood, mushrooms, old leather, used oolong tea leaves and cedar. The wine actually gains a bit of body with air. The fruit has faded from this almost completely. Still an interesting and enjoyable drink.

Just amazingly good qpr, delicious, full of red and blue fruits, jammy, full bodied, richly textured, vanilla laced espresso notes. Not quite a fruit bomb but awfully close. Decant an hour and have at it.

Really nice wine. Medium bodied, lots of dark fruit, spice, some cedar and anise. A touch closed even after an hour in decanter. Flourished once open for a few hours.

Wow this is yummy. My wife opened this while I was at the Jets game so I didn't get any until next day. Fully resolved and open for business, loads of bright red fruit, Asian spices and white pepper. Delicious and inviting.

Decanted for several hours yet still wound extremely tight. This beast showed glimmers of what's to come when a small window opened after being open about 4hrs, creamy smooth cocoa, black raspberry, black cherry, leather, smoke, pomegranate and cigar box all came through in varying amounts during a wonderful 1hr drinking window. The wine then began to shut down again. Let 'em sleep for a few years. You will be rewarded on the other side.

Started very earthy, mushrooms and loam, then slowly evolved to show a nice cherry core. A touch disjointed but came together nicely with decanting. Very nice wine overall.

Pop and pour, classic Alban nose of spices and dark fruits with some rubber notes. Big and unctuous, full of black fruit, roasted nuts, some burned rubber and iodine notes as well. Very enjoyable. It's in no danger of falling apart and should age gracefully for a minimum of 5 more years.

A fairly stout and well built wine, the nose is rife with Asian spices and ripe blackberries, plums and powdered cocoa. The palate mirrors the nose. It's so well balanced and well made, there's nothing overwhelming about its ample weight and size. There's a long lush finish that rewards each sip. Delicious wine.

Initially tight as a drum. I decanted for an hour, no go, vinturied to another decanter then vinturied back to the original, the tannins actually got more aggressive. I decided to decant over night. The 24hrs of being open finally softened the wine up, but I wasn't over the moon about it. I do believe it's a good wine, built for a very long life, there was a definite solid core of saddle leather and lead pencil, the fruit while muted was of a dark nature, some hints of Belgian Chocolate and smoke as well. Overall, a good wine but not something I would open any time in the next 10yrs again.

This was an absolute monster, with a huge brooding nose of rich black fruits, lavender and pie crust, the attack is silky but heavy, loaded with ripe plums, blackberry, currant and a hint of fig. I think this is in a very good place right now but has years of life ahead as well. Simply decadent and delicious wine!

Wednesday Night Blind - May 2012 (Peter Pratt's Inn): MF#1 - Blind - My second offering of the evening, and if I was including my own wines in my votes this would have been my favorite, especially after tasting it at the end of the night. Simply stunning wine. So pure, so pristine, so laser focused, rich velvety fruit, the classic Cayuse funk in abundance, mushrooms, forest floor, hemp, ocean spray, loads of black berries, blue berries, raspberries, cocoa, ground white pepper, just ridiculously complex and exotic. I feel blessed to get this off the mailing list.
