This has shown exactly how my tastes have changed. I guess this is technically over the hill, but as one Maryland based wine critic called it a "$15 Cote-Rotie of the South" you'd think it would evolve. It hasn't. Sappy, concentrated dark fruit and lacking acid. Me 8 years ago would have probably loved this.

Tastes the same as upon release, good acid, nice density to the fruit. Very pure, no hint of earth or off aroma.s Tasty.

In a nice spot, loads of acidity, medium body, medium intensity, medium alcohol. I guess that means it's ... medium?

Excellent. In a beautiful spot, it's rich but not overly so, with impeccable balance and a nice combination of fruit and secondary aromas. Not oxidative at all. Brilliant!

Last bottle I had was a little over two years ago and it was in a nice place. Now it's over the hill, sappy with roasted fruit aromas and flavors hitting the forefront.

Solid, but definitely California produced in a fresh style with bright blue fruits and good acidity. Lacking that Northern Rhône meat / clove / pepper thing that I think they're going for, but a solid wine nonetheless.

This is outstanding. Reminds me almost more of the Northern Rhône Syrah than warm climate Grenache. Great texture, utterly complex. Seek this one out.

Given the low marks for this wine on CT, I did not hold out hope that this would be good. But it was in a nice 3 liter bottle, and what a better time to open three liters of 2005 Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux than on NYE with 9 friends. All I can say is that I was blown away at the quality of the aromatics in this wine. Just super classic aged Bordeaux. Super tertiary, with mushroom and truffle and damp earth. Tannics were a bit unbalanced on the palate, but that nose! I have a history of tasting thousands of Bordeaux wines at every level and this was an amazing surprise.

Nice showing now. Powerful blue fruit but lots of acidity too. Drink or hold.

Still showing lots of tart red fruit with a medium bodied mouthfeel. Slightly silky, but still without a lot of personality.

Oaky, with no balance. Hot on the palate. This sat on my counter for days until I dumped the rest of it ... nobody liked it!

Disappointing. Lacks fruit and silkiness, and is hot on the palate. Blow away anything you try and pair with it. Bummer.

This was a wedding present that we cellared for six years. Figured the ten year mark was a good time to pop the cork and we were right! Dense fruit, still tightly packed but showing gorgeous tertiary aromas of earth, plum, black cherry ... this was a real delight but has plenty left in the tank. Drink now-2020+.

Dark gold. Oxidative nose yielding aromas of butterscotch, burnt sugar, and fresh apricots. The palate is full and charming, with good fruit concentration, turns bitter on the finish. Word was this was better day two. Drink up.

A total thrill, a field blend that's full of Cabernet flavor. Spice, complex, starting to mature but full of life. I wish I had more of this one.

Purchased in 2010 and cellared for 4+ years. Dark opaque red, aromas of stewed plums, dark chocolate, a touch of spice, and wet earth. Very powerful, intense aromas but not complex or attractive. Good acidity and balance, but a bit dirty with flavors of black fruits, dirt, and damp wine cellar. Finishes clean and dry. Really doesn't have much Syrah character. Drink now.

Badly oxidized. Bad storage likely. Low fill, slight signs of seepage. That's what I get for buying sight unseen.

Disappointing, but I am starting to question the storage conditions this came from. Pale color, faint aromas of green apple, faint flora aromas, lots of spice/oak on the nose but very shy. Acid and spice on the palate. Drink up.

An absolutely fantastic vintage for Clos des Papes. The quality of the Grenache shines through in this release, which is full mature but not showing any signs of old age. This is all about purity, and the 2001 has it all.
