2015 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
My friend, g-man, have never had Scarecrow (neither have I) and wanted to see what the big deal was.

Good Lord. If I were to drink this blind, I would have guessed an average-below average Amarone. Clearly, there are loads of fruit which seems to appeal to everyone, including myself. But what were off-putting were the excessive vanilla extract and not enough acidity to balance it and the fruit. Bad pairing with ribeye and most other food probably unless you are having panna cotta.

    2/20/19, 6:41 PM - hey there DD

when it comes to ratings, many an see past the tightness of youth etc.. and rate a wine based on what it is, and maybe not what it is at the moment

many 100 pt wines are such....just not ideal conditions for you

the whole is greater than the sum of its parts

BTW I love a good Amarone

    cheers

enjoyed this with friends pre-college ladies basketball game

hard to say there is anything better out there, but we are non-AFWE :)

deep brooding color, great nose and tastes great, minerality, medicine cabinet, dark berries, unique!

2/14/19, 6:26 PM - our group of wine jerks love flavor....Parker coined the acronym AFWE awhile ago regarding those who didn't like his palate LOL....Anti-Flavor Wine Elite I think

    cheers

    2/19/19, 7:03 PM - thank you

so much personal elitist hate with some folks, as Parker has pointed out

    give me the Alban please

2016 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
PnP into a decanter. Vibrant ruby-violet color. Nose grapey, dark fruits, light vanilla with some baking spice. Palate richly fruity, smooth dark fruits, slightly sweet with hint of anise; faint very smooth tannins on finish.

Seamless in its mouthfeel and flavors, somewhat primary and oaky right now but the fruit is exuberant and enjoyable especially when you're in the mood for it. The oak notes do recede with some time and the fruit picks up more definition as it sits, so I'd let it sit in a decanter for at least a couple of hours the next time. Good QPR for Napa cab lovers. 91 pts

It’s a large wine.

Wine has been open about 2 hrs and decanted.

Appearance - Deep purple. Inky. Looks thick.

Nose - youthful. Alcohol eye burn, high intensity. Black fruit. Very jammy. Cinnamon. Briny. Green olive juice. Tar smells. There are lots of aromas but not in an integrated way yet. It’s bold and smell too young (for me).

Palate - powerful. For me this wine is too big and too young. I have more bottles and will wait though am relatively new to the Albans and perhaps these are too big for me. I wish I could be loving this like other people do.

My notes :

Dry

Acidity is medium

Tannin is medium

Alcohol is medium high (bottle says 15.3). You feel it. Actually, at times you feel like you could breathe flames through your nose (ok slight exaggeration at this point but upon initial open definitely)

Body is medium plus. The wine feels thick on palate. Not watery. I see no sediment but you feel like there should be.

Flavor intensity is pronounced. This is not your every day Syrah. I mad a roast chicken and this wine overpowered it. This is for hard core ribeye or maybe osso bucco? A red meat dish with lots of spice and seasoning.

Characteristics - jammy black fruits or cooked fruits. Blackberries, prunes, plum pie filling, raisin, blackcurrent, black cherry, black pepper, on finish getting a bit of the black and green olive. Cloves. Black Liquorice

Finish is long.

Overall observations, it is benefiting from air but feels too young to me to be enjoying it the way I would want. Wine seems well made and the expression of fruit is incredible. Will be interested to see how it comes together as it ages but not my taste palate at the moment. Too intense for me. You take a sip and your head spins. Maybe you like that and are into big wines? I like a wine that is more subtle. I’m more old world Rhone. This is most definitely not.

I’m not sure when the other bottles will be ready (for me? ) so hopefully other owners will provide good descriptors to help me know when to break in? I have 2 more.

Happy New Year.

Update (after nearly 4 hrs open) - still big but mellowed. More enjoyable with strong fruit but definitely still getting strong alcohol. My conclusion is just too young. For me, not in the drinkable category yet.

More gooptastic than the 2005, remarkably intense, cloying, and viscous Luden's cough drop fruit with an unfortunately long finish, I find it distinctly unpleasant as each sip elicits an involuntary, visceral wince. It is still very primary and youthful, though, so it at least has that going for it.

10/24/17, 7:01 PM - most folks stick with stuff and people they like, so be happy and stick with that Rhys shit you like, and if you don't have anything good to say, keep it to your self as it wasn't so much a tasting note but a dramatic excuse to post one

55 points if the super-Reva really tasted as you described, eye roll

we should call you BroadwayATL LOL

2/13/19, 5:49 PM - hahaha.....Seth and Mike, describing my assessment of the rating as a feeling is shortsighted and ill informed and more of the AFWE

as the Boston song goes It's More Than A Feeling when you click in a 78er

have a good evening if you want to :)

2/13/19, 6:31 PM - hahaha, tsk tsk tsk, but thank you Seth for the coach, this is a least my 100th first world problem of the day and frankly I don't give a f$%K

your projected objectivity and lack of feeling is AFWE

go for it all night long

all good here, happiness is from within, check out the movie "Wonder"

life is good, I know my palate, and ratings are just ratings, and Mike's review is not helpful

    gooplastic? Ludens?

    I'm a non-AFWE

    ist das klar?
