Red
2017 Viña Almaviva S.A. Almaviva Puente Alto Red Bordeaux Blend
J.S. wine of the decade. Is available at Costco for $110, a sizable discount from other sources. 1st wine I have purchased from Chili, we'll have to see, but the drinking window starts in 2025

2/1/20, 12:08 PM - They will definitely be better in a few more years but you would be surprised how approachable it is now with a 1-2 hour decant. Super balanced. I have 4 bottles right now and hope to add more to my cellar.

Red
2013 Darioush Merlot Napa Valley

The wine is at a pretty good spot right now. The nose is intense with black fruit such as ripe black plum and black cherry. There is also a hint of tobacco as well. The palate is complex with tastes of blackberry jam, cloves and cedar. The tannins are already very soft. The cork already has some sediment and tartrate crystals on it. The tannins coat the mouth and carries the fruit along with it. The fruit tumbled around the palate like a laundry dryer. I look forward to revisiting this wine in the next coming few years.

2015 Château Léoville Poyferré St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend

This is my first time trying this wine and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Nose had aromatics of cherry jolly rancher, red fruit, hints of menthol, new leather, dark chocolate and grilled meat. On the palate I got cigar box, blackberries, baking spices and mint. The tannins surprised me being so polished and well structured. This is a wine that you can drink now but patients and time, will reward you with a more balanced and complex wine.

5/19/19, 7:27 AM - 2015 was definitely a good vintage and the reason I picked up a bottle. The price point for this quality of wine is also exceptional. Definitely try one now to see how young it is and it future potential.

N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Champagne Blend

This was my first Krug and it definitely made a good first impression. This was the 166th edition blended from 140 different wines spanning 13 different vintages from 1996 to 2010. Visually the champagne was a medium yellow with aromatic notes of yellow apple, fresh bread and hints of tropical fruit. The champagne explodes in the mouth with the first taste. Notes of yeast, yellow apple, citrus and freshly baked bread came through. The tartness of the champagne stayed in the mid palate and intergraded well with the fruit. The tartness never fell to the back so the ending was mostly fruit and not overwhelmingly tart. I can see why this champagne gets so many high praises.
