Visually a medium straw and has a beautiful bouquet on the nose of lemon and wet stone after a rain. The wine focuses on the mid palate and has so much acidity that it makes your mouth water. The wine gives lemon citrus, saline solution and light hints of dill on the palate. The wine has 5 years under its belt but it tastes like it just came off the bottle line. It’s so young and refreshing and has potential to age much longer. Hold or Drink.

Absolutely stunning wine. Notes of saline, wet oyster shell and lemon. Reminds me so much of a Burgundy white. This wine is capable of aging a long time with all the acidity it has. Easily approachable right now.

I was amazed how fresh the wine still is. It has aromas of black cherries and floral notes. On the palate the tannins have taken the back seat on this ride and the black plum has come forward. Still has a long life ahead of it.

On our Costco run this evening we saw they had one more rack of ribs and decided to go with it and some Quinoa salad. Something as meaty and rich as ribs requires a serious wine. Tonight I thought this 2012 Darioush Shiraz would pair well and indeed it did. The tannins of the wine are beginning to soften up at this time. On the nose you get black pepper, black olive and blueberry. On the palate you you get this wave on black fig, black berry and leather. This wine still has a long way to go before it starts its downward decent. A fabulous wine that will not disappoint.

I had a tasting of this wine at the Domaine Serene Clubhouse. On the nose this wine bursts from the glass with aromas of black cherry and tree bark. The two were integrated so well together. On the palate the tannins were surprisingly soft and the wine was in perfect harmony. Not one note came bursting out but instead it was harmonious. This wine has got a long life ahead of it but can be drunk now. I would hold it for an additional 5-10 years before trying it again.

This wine had strong aromas of strawberry, cherry and new leather. The alcohol level was definitely a bit elevated. On the palate we got intense dried cranberries and red plum. The wine is still very young and has very grippy, chewy tannins that explode with cranberries. The tannins are the first wave of the attack and they come in fast and strong. It takes awhile for the tannins to dissipate. This wine needs a lot more time in the cellar before it should be tried again. At least 5 more years. Other than that, it’s a really great wine.

The wine is at a pretty good spot right now. The nose is intense with black fruit such as ripe black plum and black cherry. There is also a hint of tobacco as well. The palate is complex with tastes of blackberry jam, cloves and cedar. The tannins are already very soft. The cork already has some sediment and tartrate crystals on it. The tannins coat the mouth and carries the fruit along with it. The fruit tumbled around the palate like a laundry dryer. I look forward to revisiting this wine in the next coming few years.

On the nose you get aromas of green herbs, wet stone and cranberries. On the palate you get lots of minerality, pomegranate and blood orange. The green Herbaceousness and minerality are the first thing you notice when you first taste it. The herbs fade off leaving the tannins in the drivers seat. The wine is austere and has so much life still left in it. A very unique wine.

On the nose you have sweet strawberries, spice and rose pedals. On the palate you get tree bark, cherry and light strawberry cola. Tannins are fruity and in control of everything. The tannins finds its home on the back of the roof of the mouth. This wine still has lots of weight and concentration. Such a beautiful wine. I’m so glad I still have another one in the cellar. Drink now but if you do, open the bottle one full day before drinking. It needs time to calm down.

On the nose you get sweet black cherry, potpourri and freshly filled earth. On the palate you get ripe strawberry, tart cherry and cola. The wine has density on the nose. Aromas of fresh red fruit with a bit of earth on the back. Rim is starting to show some age with a salmon hue. The tannins are still lively and have found a home in the back palate. The tannins don’t dissipate quickly at all. This wine has a long cellar life still left. Great wine!

On the nose you get black cherries, baking spices and tree bark. On the palate you get ripe strawberries and black tea. This wine still has many more years of cellar life. Tannins have weight, focus and grips onto the roof of your mouth and just pulsates red fruit throughout the mouth. Still has lots of complexity and acidity. A very well made wine.

Nose was reminiscent of Bordeaux but only lightly and still has plenty of red fruit. The wine seems to be just now entering its secondary phase with more earthiness. Tannins focus on the mid palate and possesses lots of red fruity acidity. On the palate there was notes of strawberry cola and watered down pomegranate. A wonderful wine.

The wine had a deep intensity with a garnet hue. The nose was musty, over ripped cherry, bruised fig that has been sitting on the counter so it’s a bit warm and a bit of funkiness. On the palate I got plum, blackberry jam and dried eucalyptus leaves. The tannins have completely softened at this point. The wine is light and evaporated quickly on the palate and has a medium finish. The fruit is still present but escapes quickly only to be left with mostly earthiness. This wine has past its prime and should be drunk now. Enjoyed very much.

I visited the winery in Mendoza last month. The tasting included the 2014 and 2016 vintage. The 2016 vintage was soft and elegant. Reminded me of a Bordeaux wine. The aromatics were very light and focused. Notes of dried black berries, toasted bread and baking spices. I also tried the unreleased 2017 vintage that received 100 points. The wines are very similar but the 2017 has a little more complexity and texture.

I have read many reviews about this wine and finally came across it here in Chile. This wine had a dark intensity with a purple hue. Aromatic notes included black licorice, black cherry, green herbs and a slight smokiness. On the palate this wine had tart cherry and red plum skin. There is intense focus in the beginning with the tannins. It builds up in the middle of the palate and slowly fades leaving intense red fruit throughout the mouth. Also a long finish.

One of the advantages of being in Chile is the access to wines that are not yet widely available back in the US right now. I had the pleasure to visit Concha y Toro yesterday and had the opportunity to try this wine. I can see why this wine received 100 points. It’s one of the most phenomenal wines I have ever tasted. It has a deep purple core with a ruby rim. On the nose the aromatics dance with black cherry, black plum and hints of light black pepper. The taste is extraordinary, the Carmenere really wants to shine out amongst all the other varietals. I got black and red fruit along with spice and hints of espresso beans. My conclusion is that this wine is one of the best I have ever tasted. The tannins are round and the finish is beautiful. This wine is super complex and has so much going on but at the same time isn’t overwhelming. I am now a life long fan of this wine and would highly recommend this master piece.

On the nose this wine has soft elegant aromas of cherry, crushed pomegranate and baking spices. On the palate, the first impression you get is how this young wine doesn’t punch you in the face with any one element. This wine is incredibly well balanced and has an even distribution of tannin, acidity and fruit throughout your mouth. The finish is long and the flavors slowly taper off leaving your mouth feeling refreshed. This is a true master piece!

Finally had the right dinner to bring this stellar wine to.

Visual: deep garnet in the center with a touch of a rust hue on the rim.

Nose: sweet blackberry jam, plum and raisins

Mouth: grippy black fruit on the palate as well as blackberry and fig. The tannin is soft and takes a back seat to the event.

Conclusion: the wine is elegant but at the same time has tension. There is no hard hit in the beginning, starts off light and has a long finish. It focuses on the mid palate and disappeared slowly filling your entire mouth with a whisper of fresh black fruit.

Before opening the bottle, the ullage was at the base of the neck. I felt good about this in hopes that the wine was not ruined. When the cork was pulled, it was soaked for the most part. I felt like the wine may have been compromised. I tried a small sample and to my delight, the wine was still good. The rim had a beautiful orange brick and the nose was typical for an old Bordeaux. There was still a bit of fruit left. It had a tart cranberry along with freshly cut hay and the typical barnyard aroma. This bottle is definitely on the downward turn. These bottles were better 10-15 years ago. These wines should be drank now since it will no longer improve over time. Great wine!

On the nose I get a freshly opened box of raisins, black plum and hint of black licorice. On the mouth, the wine is soft and elegant with notes of blackberry, spice and black cherry. The tannins are not dominant in the profile but instead very subdued. A very easy drinking wine with a long after taste.

This is my first time trying this wine and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Nose had aromatics of cherry jolly rancher, red fruit, hints of menthol, new leather, dark chocolate and grilled meat. On the palate I got cigar box, blackberries, baking spices and mint. The tannins surprised me being so polished and well structured. This is a wine that you can drink now but patients and time, will reward you with a more balanced and complex wine.

Aromatics of lemon and freshly cut ginger. Very soft on the palate and finishes evenly until the end with bright acidity. The lemon really sticks out on this wine. A great wine to drink for the summer time.

Has aromatics of bell pepper herbal aromas and red licorice. On the mouth you get lime stone minerality, black cherry and strawberry jam. The tannins are subtle and fine. The wine is light but intense with fruit. It focuses in the middle of the palate then quickly dissipates leaving your mouth with dark fruity flavors.

This is the wine that opened me up to the possibility of what a high quality cab could taste like. The nose had aromas of dark fruit, blueberries, black plum, black olives and Smokey cedar. On the mouth there were rich tastes of blueberry, fig, sweet tobacco, black licorice and dark chocolate. When you first take a sip, there is an elevated amount of alcohol but it goes away quickly. The tannins and fruity flavors stick to the roof of your mouth and as the alcohol evaporated, it carries with it all the fruit flavors leaving a refreshing feeling in the mouth. This is an incredible wine.

I was surprised to find this beauty in the supermarket and it was under $20. Whenever you see a Gran Reserva Tempranillo from Spain, you have to try it. It was very smooth in the tannin department and had intense red fruit that was slightly under ripe with a bit of tartness. A spectacular wine I will be sure to pickup more.

This wine has a medium body, medium + tannin, medium - acidity, medium + alcohol and low sweetness. Visually the wine is a medium garnet with an orange hue on the rim. Notes of stewed strawberries, nutmeg, tobacco, spiciness and hints of eucalyptus on the nose. The palate had dark fruit, leather and pencil shavings. The weight of the wine in the mouth is intense and Coates the entire palate with fruity tannins. The finish is long and leaves a tartness in the mouth. Love these old Australian wines.

This was my first Krug and it definitely made a good first impression. This was the 166th edition blended from 140 different wines spanning 13 different vintages from 1996 to 2010. Visually the champagne was a medium yellow with aromatic notes of yellow apple, fresh bread and hints of tropical fruit. The champagne explodes in the mouth with the first taste. Notes of yeast, yellow apple, citrus and freshly baked bread came through. The tartness of the champagne stayed in the mid palate and intergraded well with the fruit. The tartness never fell to the back so the ending was mostly fruit and not overwhelmingly tart. I can see why this champagne gets so many high praises.

This Spanish wine is amazing! Medium garnet with a light orange hue on the rim. Smells of black berry, barnyard, dried herbs and sour cherry. It’s a medium body, medium minus tannin, medium acidity, medium plus alcohol and bone dry sweetness. The tannins are soft with notes of strawberry, slate and hints of leather on the mouth. The wine is soft and delicate. It has a long finish and leaves your refreshed. I definitely recommend this wine.

I started with six bottles and am now down to 2. This wine was unbelievable! It is definitely in the drink now zone. It’s still got more time ahead of it but it’s drinking so well now. The fruit and tannin are in perfect harmony. The earthy notes are starting to come through with green leaves and Forrest floor. Notes of sour cherry and fresh strawberries are also present. A marvelous wine.

50% Pinot noir and 50% Chardonnay.

Visual: pale gold, secondary fermentation, bubbles are plentiful.
Nose: yellow apple, toasted almond, Asian pear
Taste: light body, low alcohol, high acidity, low tannin and medium sweetness. Tree fruit-Yellow apple, white peach and Asian pear.
Notes: champagne has a light tartness (similar to Greek yogurt) that sticks in the middle of the mouth. It’s focused and releases the flavors slowly until it fades. This wine would pair well with seafood like crab or lobster. It has the bones to age.

The wine is definitely showing its age. The fruit has subsided but there are still ghost notes of cherry and raspberry. The nose and palate have a high concentration of antiseptic. The tannins were very very low. The wine is on a slow decline so, it should be drunk within the next few years. Great wine.

The wine has low tannin, minus medium body, earthiness with minerality. Medium finish, hint of tartness, cranberry, the flavors disparate quickly. Light on the palate. The wine on a slow decline so, drink them up.

This wine is aged in 100% French oak and has hints of blueberries, blackberries, baking spices and vanilla. The tannins are surprisingly very soft. I opened the bottle 6 hours prior to drinking it so, that may contribute to the delicate tannins. The taste gives an explosion of dark fruits and minute echos of black licorice. I would give this wine at least 5 more years then revisit it.

I love coming across bottles like this. The price is low and the quality is outstanding. It’s a blend of 75% Garnacha and 25% Tempranillo. Visually the rim is watery on the edge and transitions to garnet. The tannins are well structured and are very smooth. I get notes of earth, fig and light licorice. It’s has a dry finish and is well balanced as it fades away.

The 2015 Laurel Hood Pinot Noir Pearl Reserve. This bottle has been in the fridge for 4 days and is still full of fruit and light tannin. Aromas of rose pedals and cherry. This wine is made with neutral oak and in limited quantity. The wine maker (Laurel) learned wine making from the legend David Lett. She makes the wine all by herself and knows how to make a beautiful Pinot noir. If you are ever in Canon Beach, OR...be sure to stop by her small wine store (Laurels Wine Shop) and grab a bottle. You won’t be disappointed. Wine can age another 5 years easily.

The wine still has fruit on the nose. Hints of strawberry and baking spices. It’s beginning to show its age with a slight orange haze on the rim. Getting a sweet strawberry jam after a couple of hours. The wine has good acidity, the alcohol level is a bit high. There is still fruit left but the earthy notes are more predominate at this point. Would drink this wine within the next few years. If you can, open the bottle and drink over a 3 day period. The wine will change as time goes on.

The wine has all the characteristics of a Chilean Carmenere. The wine is a little to tight when opened. Would let it decant for at least 4-6 hours. I left a bottle open for 3 days and it’s was stunning how different it was. The dark fruit came out strong and the tannins were so smooth. Long decant is needed for this wine right now.

This is one of the best Carmeneres I have tasted in awhile. The wine definitely needs to decant for at least an hour. It was a bit tight on the palate when sampled. After decanting, the aromatics included black fruit. In particular I got fig and black berries. There is a bit of smoke and tobacco on the back palate as well. The tannins were soft and round. 18 months in new French oak definitely contributed to this master piece. I look forward to see where this wine is in 5-10 years.

The color depth was watery with a yellow hue on the rim and is clear. Aromas were aromatic and youthful with aromas of floral notes, toasted almonds, cantaloupe, apple and pineapple. The wine was dry with a medium sweet and had tart acidity. Tannin was low and soft with a good balance. Flavor intensity was flavorful with citrus apple, nectarines and lemon. The finish was long.

The alcohol level is a bit high and is reflected on the taste. The wine has good acidity with tartness up front and a bitter after taste. These wines won’t benefit from long term storage according to the wine maker so, drink up!

Color depth was watery with a yellow hue. The clarity was clear and the aroma intensity was aromatic. The wine is very young still and has aromas of tropical fruit, oak (dominant) under ripe pineapple and sweetness.

The wine is dry with a medium sweetness. Body is light with tart acidity. Tannins are low and soft. The balance was very good and the flavor intensity was flavorful. Flavors included oak, lemon peel, citrus, coconut and was buttery. The finish was long.

Conclusion: The oak is still predominant on the nose and taste. The wine still feels a bit tight and needs a little extra time in the cellar, 3-5 years will allow the oak lactones to soften. It’s a great wine and has complexity. I’ll probably try another bottle in 3 years to see where it’s at.

The color depth was deep with a brick and brown color hue. The color almost reminds me of a Tempranillo. The clarity was slightly hazy for its age. Aroma intensity was moderate and definitely showed it’s age.

Aromas included tart cherry, a little antiseptic, a musty wood, dusty and dark chocolate.

The wine was dry and not very sweet. Body was medium and acidity was tart. Tannins were low and soft. The wine has a good balance between the acidity and tannins. Flavor intensity was moderate and the finish was long.

Flavors included red fruit, dirt and a chalkiness.

The wine is still full of life. A great example of a classic Bordeaux. The wine still has potential to age longer in the cellar. The wine has a presents of fruit although it’s not predominant. I would love to see where this wine is in 5 years but it can be drunk now.

The color depth was deep with a hue of brown with the rim having an orange/brick in color. The clarity was cloudy and aroma was aromatic still for its age. The wine clearly shows age by this point. Aromas included black licorice, sour over ripe cherry, slight smell of eucalyptus, spice and a bit of funkiness.

The wine was off dry and a medium sweetness. Body was medium-full and the acidity was tart. Tannin was low but soft and the flavor intensity was moderate. Flavors included raisin, dark cherry and some hints of baking spices. The finish was also long.

This wine is currently past its prime and is on a downward trend but is still drinkable. The wine was cloudy like it just finished its first fermentation. There is still a lot going on with the nose. The Shiraz has some presence but has left the building leaving behind a remnant of its former self. The floral notes have also subsided. If you still have this bottle in your cellar, pop the cork and drink it. Any additional aging will not benefit the wine but make it less tolerable to drink.
