This seemed a bit lighter in color and crisper in taste profile than a bottle a few months ago, which is surprising given the agglomerated cork.

7/3/23, 10:15 PM - Thank you for the gracious offer, but it's not really necessary. We consumed all of that last bottle, it's not like it went down the drain. It was certainly drinkable, if a bit of a surprise. It's showing made me think it best to open this bottle sooner rather than later. This one certainly doesn't make me think there is any hurry on the last bottle.

drinking well, if a bit tight. I'm inclined to give remaining bottles a bit more time

1/17/23, 9:37 AM - I'm inclined to agree. Generally I try to give Oregon pinots about 7 or 8 years post vintage. A 2014 Franny Beck Johann showed wonderfully last year. This drank so well young, I thought it might never close down. Apparently it has. FWIW, some 2015 pinots I've had have seemed to demand more time, the structure has proven more firm than the prior vintage

very good showing, nice nose, lengthly finish, tannins largely smooth and resolved but still sufficent to provide a good frame. This is probably more a mid-term than long-term wine from this point

11/25/22, 12:28 PM - It was decanted for about 45 minutes, then poured back into the bottle. That seemed to have been more than adequate. It didn't change much over the couple hours the bottle lasted. It may have been fine without the decant as the nose was expressive and open from the moment it was decanted. I didn't sample it at that point.

From a bottle disgorged March 2019. On pop and pour, the first thought is that this is WAY too young. Painfully so. It did open up a bit and flesh out after a couple hours, but clearly it needs more time.
  • thalver commented:

11/12/20, 9:49 AM - Re the question of how to tell the disgorgement date: That was the only bottle I had of this, so I can't check for reference. My recollection is there is a code faintly etched beneath the label near the bottom of the rim. An online search should show you guides to interpret various producer's codes.

Showing well, this bottle didn't show as particularly sweet. Some bottle boquet, lingering finish.....it was a big hit with casual wine drinkers
  • thalver commented:

9/15/20, 7:21 PM - According to Richard Peterson's glossary of wine terms, bottle boquet= "After bottling, further aging in sealed bottles develops a pleasing taste and odor characteristic called “bottle bouquet.” Bottle bouquet usually begins to develop in bottled wine three or four years after bottling, and develops in both red and white wines."

yet ANOTHER corked bottle of this wine!
  • thalver commented:

4/8/20, 10:45 AM - Re: the question about how many of these have been TCA-infected. This was my third corked bottle of nine consumed. I've gifted a couple bottles to civilians, with feedback that one of them was "off"

This bottle was showing a good bit more maturity than a bottle two and a half years ago.....hints of petrol have emerged to play with the fruit. The wine retains what, for my palate, is ample sweetness....certainly off dry, ...with sometimes enough, and sometimes almost enough, acidity to balance the sweetness

8/18/15, 7:11 PM - With regard to the question as to whether this seems advanced for its age, in my view, perhaps slightly. It does seem a touch more advanced that a 2007 Selbach Oster spatlese we drank a couple weeks ago, but NO where near as advanced as a 2005 Donnhoff Kirscheck drunk a week or so ago, which did give me pause. That bottle prompted me to pop cork on this. Do bear in mind that some of my Donnhoff spatleses may have sat on a retailer's shelf for 3 or 4 months. At the time I bought this, I was not in the habit of marking the puchase dates on the bottles to differentiate those I bought on release to differentiate them from later purchases.

This was hardly worth wasting calories and alcohol consumption on. Innocuous, some structure, hints of what might have been fruit. not flawed (unless subtly cooked) just meh 82-86

1/2/14, 7:03 PM - obviously, others liked the wine better than I have, so you may wish to try it for yourself. Still, in its defense as a cooking wine, there certainly isn't anything there to offend...be it off-tastes or just ..flavor.
