lots of pepper notes at this point. definitely the most prominent thing im getting on night 1. will update with thoughts on night 2 to see how it opens up.

night 2: definitely more expressive on night 2. more fruit character forward but still a good hit of pepper, but it feels much more balanced tonight than it did last night

From Patricia Green Library Release winter '21.

Opened at the Grey Savannah... PnP'd (cork was still pristine). Just crazy good right out of the gate. Dark cherry more resemblant of maraschino (in a really balanced and bright way) and loaded with asian spice that just explodes out of the glass and over the palate. We followed it through the course of the 6 course meal and it just continued to shine. Blown away by how much good some age has done this wine. gonna say 2030++ because this feels like its just getting into a really nice window and the energy its got feels FAR from aged or tired.

this was delicious. exactly what you hope a Bourgogne wine (and then some) will be, at a great price. will buy whenever I see.

From Once and Future library release

Decanted about an hour before the first taste. Cork was soft but came out easily with the ah-so. Plenty of sediment, glad I stood it up for the day before.

Just delicious wine. definitely the oldest zin I've had and it was a different experience from other aged wines for sure. the term "port-like" came up around the table- which I have to specify was a compliment. the fruit character definitely made sense, as it had that almost dried prune type fruit but also had great acid to balance. leathery earth notes mixed in for a lot of good complexity. Loved this.

Very good! bright and crisp with just a hint of round yeastiness... just enough to balance the lemony brightness. really tasty

really delicious wine that I kept coming back to despite there being some other really nice wines on the table with it. KeithAkers note, as always, is on the money. the only points I would add: we double decanted this wine about 2.5 hours before serving and the cherry exploded when decanting but ws much more subdued on initial notes in the glass. it was a little grumpy when first poured but REALLY opened up into the floral minerality others noted after about another hour as we followed it in the glass. exactly what I want from Baroli starting to move out of that initial primary phase: deep cherries, rose petals, freshness to go well with food, but starting to turn pure minerality into leather and earth tones. I get the feeling this bottle is just moving into a great drinking window, but also that it will be there for a while from here.

this has put on some weight and complexity since the last bottle I opened at Thanksgiving. This was my last bottle, but it makes me want to track some down to continue to follow it because this was really tasty

FROM ONCE AND FUTURE LIBRARY RELEASE
PnP. Solid cork with a great seal. Immediately when it popped everyone in the room knew this was gonna sing because the aroma immediately filled the room with dark fruit notes. On the palate those fruits are backed up with that spicy goodness you want from a good zin with just a touch of leathery soil to add complexity, but dang if this doesnt still feel incredibly fresh. Still put on some more depth with about an hour in the glass but to be honest it just didnt make it much past that for me to continue to follow

I REALLY like this wine. its gift beautiful bright fruit and fresh acid, its got complexity, and its super drinkable now and will also age wonderfully. like any of them will last long enough to see that happen. ha!

aaaannnnnndddd its gone.

thats just what happens when we open Kelley's wines in our house. should I let the rest of these wines age a bit? probably. would it benefit from it? probably. will I be able to resist them and let that happen? I better just go ahead and order more.

agree completely with Jeremy Holmes. glad I saw some notes about air cuz it led me to open this wine an hour or two early and I think it really benefitted from the airtime. bright red cherries and brilliant detailed minerality. this is definitely a baby but man its so good. im rating 91 now but with lots of upside and im looking for more.

Cant believe how alive this wine still is! Opened alongside a 2010 Drouhin Mouches and several of us agreed it was the better of the two! Cork was perfect and the wine was basically PnP, then followed in the glass over about two hours and it continued to hold up well with air. Plenty of sous bois but also still a brightness underlying it that lent it life and helped it pair really well with duck confit. a well stored bottle of 81 may still have some life but open this up and enjoy!

welp, this was very good. Decanted this for about 3 hours before getting into it but one of those wines that even while decanting you know will be good. still leaning towards the primary notes where fruit are dominating but starting to really pick up some spice notes and complexity. would suggest holding if you've only got one bottle but opening now with a good decant was still incredibly delicious

Note: we opened this alongside a 1981 Mouches and I just have to add that the 81 was a fantastic wine. part of what's influencing me to say hold for now!

Opened first night after receiving. The vintage really looks good on the Cali Syrah. juicy red fruits make this super drinkable already. we PnP but towards the end of the glass it was starting to pick up a hint of that syrah-olive-briney-goodness too. This is a wine that you won't feel bad bringing to a wine friends house but also with a price that makes it totally cool to open on a weeknight.

first Clerget from Thibault- Really enjoyable wine! Its still got a bit of tannin that needs to incorporate at this point but with food it really shines. dark red fruits, good minerality type freshness to counterbalance. I think this wine will still benefit from a bit of cellar time due to the tannin but its got a bunch of great potential

This has evened out and incorporated a good bit since I received it on release (and almost immediately opened the first bottle). the briny note is not quite as predominant and the dark fruit is showing itself a little more readily. a very tasty wine, but still super young. needs some air or some more cellar time IMO

Wine Berserkers Relief purchase. Just a dang good wine. Its still young and needs a good amount of air, we opened this about an hour before opening and just let it sit in the bottle for a bit, then enjoyed a glass or two a night for three nights to follow. it was still firing on all cylinders on night three when we finished the bottle and we enjoyed it the whole way through. on the darker fruit side for pinot but balanced well and still mineral driven with a good acid backbone. yum.

very interesting white. incredibly floral and pretty nose that is matched with strongly perfumed palate as well. textural and energetic.

This was very good. Fine mousse, nose of brioche and lemon cake that carried through to the palate. This feels well integrated already (although I admit my experience with this level of champagne is not extensive) and nothing feels out of balance or overbearing. it has vibrant energy and good precision, but enough body and toastiness to carry it without it feeling too linear or bracing. I get the hype here.

Beautiful wine in a really great place right now. We decided to open it late into the evening so it was PnP but it still would definitely benefit from a couple hours of decanting because it was just hitting its stride at the end of the night. Initially a pleasant and not-overpowering hit of classic Bordeaux barnyard that settled in and integrated into a bit more earthy pencil shaving and cigar type note as it got some air, but with plenty of blackberry and cherry to carry it. Incredible nose on this wine is the thing that sticks with me most.... Decant a couple hours and drink now or plenty of life to continue holding and enjoy down the road.

I was a little nervous about opening this due to the other note seeming disappointed. I shouldn't have worried. we opened this about 2 hours before drinking and it was singing. bursting with bright red berry fruit and spice. very easy to drink and went exceptionally well with food. Tomoko says this is their favorite wine they made at Chantereves in 2018 and I can see why!

Delicious sparkler. Bright and elegant with fine mousse but with a honeyed roundness to JUST soften the edged and give it beautiful balance. well worth the price of admission from the list that I FINALLY got a spot on!

Opened this about 3 hours before drinking and decanted for about 90 minutes. sitting across the table from it while it decanted it was already obvious this bottle was a winner. the deep red fruit aromas were heady and inviting. the nose in the glass was still absolutely youthful and vibrant, with a palate that was balanced out by a nice earthy truffle/mushroom note as it sits in secondary phases. this bottle has entered a great drinking window, but this is a marathon runner thats just hitting its stride.

This is one of the best young Mirabais that I think I've had, and this bottle bodes really well for where this wine is going. We opened it almost literally at the doorstep to taste. The nose, like all Kelley's wines, is beautiful. It bursts with energy and fresh red fruits with outstanding depth and concentration for a base level wine. the 3 I have left are not gonna be enough.

Beautiful wine. So light on its feet for zinfandel. Bright red fruit notes with underlying complex savory notes running the whole length of the finish. improves and picks up more leathery notes with air. Still young and full of energy. back up the truck for these!

Young but already fun to drink. Definitely heavy on the fruits right now but with some air does pick up some of those classic Barolo rose and bitter notes that are so wonderfully balancing. This will definitely age well but this is a perfect Barolo to enjoy all through its lifetime I think

gorgeous wine. slow oxed for about 2.5 hours but we even liked it with the first pour right at opening. sure, it'll continue to improve with time and its got a lot of upside still, but there is so much energy and life now. smooth structure, light on its feet, plenty of leathery spicy earth tones, but with bright cherry backbone. day 2 very good as well!

Tasty on day 1, delicious on day 2. Day 2 was a dead ringer for an extremely well made Burgundy. The earth and savory notes were up front, with plenty of fresh dark red fruit underlying. This will be fun to drink for several years at least but if you've got some time to follow it go ahead and pop one now!

This was delicious. Can't believe how much life this still has. The color was still bright ruby with almost no bricking at the edge, still plenty of fruit but with a nice underlying sous bois note. I thought this would be good but I didn't know it would be great.

not exactly a Pobega but pretty close. Dumb me: this is the only bottle I've got. Its definitely young, but already really accessible with just about 20 minutes in the glass, so not painfully so. Will it benefit from some bottle time? absolutely. but if you're smarter than me and you have multiples of these, its already more ready to go than the 2018 I think.

of course I should have guessed mdm Leroy makes a great Gamay. blinded several people on this and got guesses from across the board, but it jumps out of the gate like an Italian with that dusty rusticness but then resolves in the glass to elegance where we all ended up guessing burgundy pinot. either way its tasty

Apparently I wasn't the only one to Pobega one of these. so glad I did. This wine is so drinkable but also has so much going on. The note before mine describes this so well, and it has everything I love about Hardy's wines. wild raspberries, fresh herbs, joyful energy. delicious.

wow. purchased from the Once and Future release in 2019. incredibly alive with powerful fruit and cracked pepper notes. Color had almost no fade at all, had more color than a 2009 Barolo opened next to it. this was just flat out delicious. would never have picked 1996 Cali Cab Franc... in the best way. this particular bottle had another decade in it at least... but why wait??
