Red
2007 Massolino Barolo Margheria Nebbiolo
Not as pronounced as the Aldo Conternos on the nose. Very high toned and pretty. Palate is pretty killer though - light and alive and vibrant. Very structured back end. Time to lay it down for the 10 year Barolo program.

I don't know why, but I was confused about how much I didn't care for this wine. I had waxed poetic about the previous vintage and in general I had been liking 2010s even more than the 2009s, but with this Clos des Papes, I just kept getting this "cheap wine" essence from it. It's hard to describe but it's something I often get from cheap, over extracted, overripe Australian wines for instance. I mean, obviously this wasn't that bad, but with Clos des Papes, I would expect not to get even a hint of that essence. I can tell the balance on this wine is quite elegant but I can't get past that over-ripe cheapo wine smell and a certain chemical finish. Maybe it was an off bottle, but that was my experience - take it or leave it.
