What a magnificent wine! These never seem to get old (no pun intended). In the glass, a light ruby center with a soft brickish rim. The nose of bright cherries, cedar, damp earth, and leather one to wonder what might be in store for them. Soft tannins, and a blend of sweet and savory fruits enveloped the entire mouth as a 30+ second finish took place. There is still tons of acidity left in this wine. I have been hearing a lot lately that people have been having issues with the wines being oxidized. I have been fortunate to only have found 1 so far. These wines seem to keep on getting better and better. This was by far on of the better 94's that i have had recently.

This wine was rather impressive for the price. Nose was typical Musar nose of sweet cherries, and old concrete led me to think this was going to be a typical Musar. Light, almost gamay-esque color led to a soft, and somewhat flabby mouthfeel. Granted it had Musar qualities, but it lacked the earth-ness that I find so mesmerizing about the olders musars I have. Unfortunately, this wine just wasn't what I had expected it to be. I think of it as a "Entry level Musar", it lacked the complexity and structure that its big brother portrays.

Off bottle, smelled and tasted oxidized....one of the less impressive 94's I've tasted.

Tasted this wine for the first time tonight. On the nose were bright, red strawberries with a subtle tone of candied cherries and bubble gum and earth. Light to medium weight mouth feel with great acidity led to flavors cranberries, bing cherries, black pepper, and pomegranate. Overall this was terrific young cru that will certainly benefit from a few years on its side. I look forward to tasting this again in a year.

Classic and impossible to put to words...one of those rare wines that leaves everyone speachless yet talking for hours about it.

A burnt gold color led us to believe that this wine may not be as good as we thought (Kirk thought it was thouroughly oxidized). On the nose tangerine, and mulling spices were the only obvious scents that were picked up. To be honest with you, the nose was rather disappointing and was was no warm up to what it was. Upon entering the mouth, this wine errupted with flavors. Bright orange fruits, spices, over ripe pears, peaches...all to lead to a long and lingering finish that left you wanting more. This wine had nice acidity and a viscosity that reminded us of clean motor oil. This was truly an amazing bottle that made me glad that I was able to share it with someone who would appreciate it ass much as I did.

Decanted 2+ hours before enjoying it with a rack of lamb with buttered red currants and sauteed asparagus. Medium ruby in color. Bright red fruits on the nose with underlying tones of plum, roses, cherries, and crushed rock. On the palate pencil shavings, cherries, white pepper, raspberries, curants, and pomengranate lead to a medium length finish. This wine still showed lots of tannin and acid structure that leads me to believe that it could be in for the long haul. And also at that price point, its hard to pass this one by.

Decanted 1 hr prior to drinking. Traditional Musar nose with scents of cedar wood, bright red fruit, and a bit of VA. This is the last of the '90's that I have yet to taste from Chateau Musar....and once again they did not disappoint! Who is their winemaker now? The rim showed signs of bricking and as you work your way towards the core it turns into a ruby/mahogany color...absolutley beautiful. On the palate, this wine seems to have much more acidity than the '95 and '99. Red fruit dominates and tastes of cedar, raspberries, and leather are tasted thorughout the palate and something else that I cant really pin down, but alls I know is that I like it . Soft velvety tannins lead to a long lingering finish that remind of where I was when I first had my first Musar. This is an extrordinary wine and I look forward to tasting it again in the future.

Decanted for 3 hours and then another 1 hour upon arrival. This baby showed little to no signs of aging and I was only drinking it because it was given to me in anticipation in or buyunbg up to a case of this wine. A dark prune color engulfed the wine that showed little to no signs of aging. On the nose vibrant tones of oak (maybe a little too much for my liking), caramel, toffee, coffee, bacon fat, and spiced meats...all lead to an intriguing sensation that may have led us to believe that this would be stellar on the palate. This wine had nice sweet tannins and massive red fruit, followed by truffles, earth, pencil shavings, and dark chocolate. I found it hard to believe that this wine was predominantly merlot based because of the massive size of this wine. Although I enjoyed it, I look forward to tasting in again in anohter 6-8 years when this wine has time to settle down and acquire a little bottle age.

Decanted immediatly before serving. This wine is still fairly young with a fair amount of heat in the mouth wich was was a bit of a turnoff. It would be interesting to take a look at this in another 8-10 years to see where it ends up.

This was wine number 2 served blind to me that night. Showed little to no signs of aging in the glass. On the nose, dark chocloate, vanilla oak, and expresso, were the main scents followed by purple fruit. Silky soft tannins lead to tastes of dark fruit, tobacco, pencil shavings, vanilla bean, and milk chocolate. We enjoyed this bottle thouroughly, but the next day the 2 cabs we had tasted totally changed directions and the Teachworth was our overall favorite. This was an enjoyable wine but I feel as if there was too much alcohol in the mouth to really appreciate it. It would be fun to try an older Scarecrow to see how it developes over time.

Wow this was a treat. This was the first of 2 Napa Cabs that were served blind to me that evening (the other was and 2005 Scarecrow). Big red fruit on the nose. In the mouth there was an eruption of licorice, exopresso beads, vanilla, pencil lead, and black currants. As much as I enjoyed and appreciated this wine, I cannot seee myself buy these cabs mainly in part to the fact that its not my style. But what a treat though

On the nose, black truffles dominated followed by rich dark fruit, earth, and wet dirt. It showed significant signs of aging being close to 10 years old. In the mouth there was flavors of tobacco, cranberries, rasberries, pencil shavings, and black pepper. Tannins had all but disappeared on this wine but there still was a considerable amount of heat from the alcohol on the finish that leads me to believe that this wine will be even better in a year or two.

Brickish-Mahogany in color. This glorious bottle was served to me blind while I was working. One of the guys brought it down to me to have a taste and hear my thoughts on it. I have had the '93 before and this was everything I remember and then some. On the nose, dirt, and wet leaves dominated with the all to typical Musar funk being brought forth almost intantly. Ripe fruit on the palate that led to a 30+ second finish. There was also a tast of burnt toast that I found interesting. Although I knew it was Musar, I guessed '91 (it looked a little older than the last '93 I consumed). This was truly an enjoyable bottle and I hope to have he time again in the future to sit down with this wine and watch it evolve as Musar does over the hours we are consuming it.

Decanted for sediment 1.5 hours before consumption and still muck sediment in the glass. Slight bricking around the rim. Although I enjoyed this wine, it was the least impressive of all the other Musar vintages i have tasted.

Beautiful golden-apricot color with. This wines plays you because it looks much youinger than it actually is (just likes its red partner). On the nose there is yellow fruit witha slight citrus copmonent and maybe a bit of starfruit and mango, and maybe a hint of boytritis. It reminds me of an older white burgundy. Upon entering the mouth, you automatically know that this wine has some age on it. Signs of oxidizationon on the palate give way a rich taste of bartlett pearand starfruit. This wine still has quit a bit of acidity for being close to 15yrs old. 15+ second finish. I have been looking forward to trying this wine for quit some time now and absolutly love it. Its ashame that there was only 3 cases of this wine imported into the United States.

Good Lord!!! My friend brought this bottle that he opened a night earlier to blind Bob Bartlett or "Bartlett Winery" today and WOW. I absolutly love this wine, the smell of dirty earth and barnyard notes totally overwhelm the senses and the soft seductive fruit sends you to your happy place. I have never had this wine on the second day it was opened partly because we always finish the bottle. This wine had signiture Musar notes and was a real pleasure to drink again. I am looking forward to what I will be opening tomorrow night at Kirks graduate school, congradulations party.

WOW, what an amazing bottle. Funk that could not be described on the nose but as "oregon funk" dominated this wine off the start. Mouth feel was silky, and elegant, with bright red fruit, expecially Maine strawberries, made me want more of this wine. It was ashame to see the decanter empty after this wine but we continued to smell our glasses for 20min after that. This is a wine that i would truly love to get my hands on and celllar. I look forward to trying this agian in the future.

On the nose there are scents of red fruit and wet green vegetation that reminded me of walking through the forrest after a spring rain shower. Bark and alcohol surrounded this with an underlying layer of Arrogant bastard ale of stone cellars. On the pallat bright red fruits exploded into a strong tannic finish that lasted for 15+ seconds. This wine is far too young to be consumed now and the alcohol is a little too much for my pallate. After all said, i truly enjoyed this exceptional bottle of wine.
