The gorgeous bottle alone is worth the inexpensive Aldi entry point. Sweet, as one would expect. Some honey, butter, apple, cream, goodness. Lacking in any depth, substance or sophistication, but easy drinking and friendly. An all around crowd pleaser indeed.

Very floral nose. Butter from the oak aging offers a smooth gift on the palate. Auburn California, who knew? Obviously this family does! And good thing. Kat at the vineyard poured for us, and we did a flight.

Tight, perhaps it could use some more time in the racks.?.

Rewarding in its richness and girth. Mouth coating.

The finish stays with you, no bad delta in the flavor at the end.

It offers the silky smoothness of a mid level Italian blend. Really yummy.

Glad we found this vineyard, glad we met Kat, glad we bought more than one bottle.

Into the family you go, Girl!!!

Enjoy!

Cramele Recaş makes terrific wines. This very lite pinot drinks well, offers fruit and a friendly, inviting palate. Its finish length is adequate and the bottle emptied quickly.

Not as bigly rewarding as Recas' Uberland red blend, but, YUM!

Very acceptable vin. A gift wine we're glad we received. Nothing earth shattering in nose, complexity or finish, buy yeah, we'd be happy to drink it again as a gift wine or at another's party.

What an impressive showing!

Forty-five years since these were growing, probably forty-three since they were bottled...

It was so old, we thought to call the vineyard before we cracked it, to discuss its history. The gentleman on the other end said he believes this was the first vintage they ever did this Cab.

Well you could've fooled us.

Most people probably don't think Washington State wine could survive from the 70s. This one has crystals on the cork, the tip is midnight black, the entire ride up the cork is wine covered... Naughty talk...

Granted, we were very gentle in removing it, but it came out in one piece. Decanted slowly.

Pretty bricked edges? yes;
Aged funk? all day;
Earth, tobacco and green? it's in there;
Medium bodied but full flavored;
Complex and discussion worthy.

An hour open it became a more cohesive juice. The pours got bigger, no holding back, no concern for flavor, no apprehension wondering- will we empty the glass.?. Whether the winemakers knew it in 78/79, it was built to last.

The backbone has slathered away over time. No acid there to ride it more days in the racks. If you have one or a few, now's likely the time. If you racked it right, please call us when you decant. See ya soon!

You can't manufacture these flavors and scents... Just stunning. Beguiling in that it was so aged, but fresh enough for Steve Martin's Jerk.

This bottle won't make another hour.

We realize we may be missing the best of it by drinking it so quickly, but we've also had other decades-aged vin that collapsed soon after opening, or soon after a brief peak. So, we'll take what this half-centenarian is offering.

Health, wealth, love and peace to you all in '24.

Noroc!

Comes in like a PARTY! This party's been doing it since- and like it's- 1999! Pure, happy, vin excellence. Loud in the mouth, the event's ON!

Earthy, morning dew fields. Zero tannin bite. 100% smooth.

Wow! Is this the aging, or are all Col Solare's like this? This is our first experience w this vin. Wish we had a case of this joyous beauty.

So close to full body, opaque like a February night. Fall into this bricking black hole and take your time on the minutes-long finish, to snake your way out. Slither through the blackberries and dark cherries. Find your way to the taste buds of the Gods.

No wonder it's as smooth as a Brancaia Ilatraia Tuscan blend, it's born from Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori and Chateau Ste. Michelle... We're in!!!

A steal for the $50 we spent 4+ years back at Nino Salvaggio's cellar for this friend.

Delish!!!

Give this beauty some time.

We cracked our 2015 and it had that very unpleasant bite at the front end. Combined w the cigar smoke it was, frankly, unpleasant.

Distraction melted away, however, after about 40 minutes of aeration and by the end of the bottle- 2 hours or so in- she was singing. The tertiary flavors coalesced with the fruit and the acid backbone held it all together beautifully.

The score is AFTER airtime.

Good find, PRP.

Open, decant, aerate for an hour, and ENJOY!

"I can smell the vineyard!" Wow this opened off the charts, a nose that said this was going to be a top shelf regular. Then, on the palate it underwhelmed just a touch, at first. An hour open it was nearly singing. Medium body- some below had said- not at all to us... Dark. Opaque. Heavy swirls said full body all day.

After our cheeses, sausages, peppers, and hummus on carrots, all adding up to over an hour in the green blown glass Italian decanter w ice pocket, this friendly giver was Goo-oood.

Not the flavor level of Penfolds Bin 389, but just as sophisticated and complex, offering layerd, nuanced enjoyment.

Yum.

Not worth the Vivino $95 sale price per we paid for two, in terms of getting 389 for $50, but, we drank what the Oscar stars drank, we were told. And, after all, it was yummy indeed.

Glad we got and tried it. In our cellar for over two years before tonight.

Have one more, but, scarily, the silver housing has loosened up, so someone pulling it from the cellar racks, could drop and break it. Have to store it next to the floor.

Opaque. Medium body with a nearly heavy roll on the swirl. The nose is off the charts welcoming. 2016- Perfect drinking today in '23.

Not hot, balance slits through the pour, with fruit and earth. Feels like it has the backbone to hold up many more years.

The scores, however, are less than ideal for such an offering.

There is no unpleasant bite, very smoothed out tannins.

We feel it should be a 90 pointer… but… Is it? So close… Really yummy juice. But its finish kind of collapses after a friendly black licorice hit, and aeration has, surprisingly, not helped this particular bottle… To hit 90 it really has to touch us. So close… We’ll Vacu-Vin it and see tomorrow. If day two inspires the big NINE ZERO, we’ll write again.

Noroc.

Six In the cellar since July '21. Brought a bottle to Olive Garden for its $7.50 corkage fee. Lasagna, bread, salad, soup, ravioli, the works.

Very inviting nose, but super light and not a very cohesive palate. Seemed a bit disjointed, leaving us wanting something more substantive.

Frankly, we expected more with these CT & Vivino scores. We'll hold the next one for 4 or 5 years and see what happens.

One of the best, earthy, smokey, dust and tobacco infused Chianti we've ever had. Enjoyed it w our sausage, asiago, hummus & carrots and grapes. Maybe it was so good cuz we wuz three deep by the time this beauty was cracked, but everyone at the table sang its laurels. A real PRP gem.

When we cracked this bottle for our Wedding Anniversary, we had such high hopes. In the cellar since June 2019, bought at Pure Vin Downtown for $55, it was a 6 review 92.3 pointer. We tried to Coravin but the first shoot of argon smooched the cork out a bit and vin came leaking from the sides of the stopper. So we went to our trusty ah-so forker. Nope. Pushed the now-wet cork right into the bottle, like a 70's vintage. Ugh.

Eventually we did get to drink it. Toasty on the nose. Earthy. Rich. Is it salty- cured meat spice set up? Smoke is in there. Perhaps we’re just not familiar with the cariñena grape…

A bit too much cigar and not enough balanced, welcoming fruit for us to get to the 90s.

Good for sure, and sediment was meager- nicely in check for an 18 year vin.

Vacuvin’d the remaining glasses. Next day, similar.

Good. Not 90+ for us.

Better yet, try it in Transylvania.

The nose alone is an olfactory party. The flavors bounce from the black fruits to the leather and earthy goodness. The bottle is a haunting image and color, offering such a beautiful presentation. The finish holds and grips your mind into wondering why you're not putting the next sip down your pharynx already... In a word, fabulous.

Enjoyed with pomodoro sauce on fresh baked bread, burrata, spicy peppers, and strozzapeti with pancetta. Wow!

Even though this bottle didn't hit as high as our other two, it's still Top of Charts good.

I wanted to drink a benchmark-year in the family, wine. So I did. However, I wish I would have left it open for 2 hours before the 1st sip, because the last sip came at abut 2 and a 1/2 hours, and it was by far the best. Makes me wonder if the score would have been higher had I started it then... It opened old, dusty and not in a good way. I just needed to give it time. No bitey tannin, that was all smoothed out. Some fruit left, but mostly cool tertiary flavors.

I used a fork instead of a corkscrew, but the fork just pushed the cork right into the bottle anyway, as it was so deteriorated.

Anyway, it was a fun experience and the oldest beverage I've had, to date...

Certainly not getting any better at this point.

1983 baby! Return of the GrapeJedi here!!!

Yum!

But... Nearly 6 years since the last CT (allbeit 95 point) note.

This one was 88-89 at pop n pour... Full body. Lots of sediment. Interesting, not that beautiful bricked color imagery common in 30+ year old bottles.

Came together with each sip. We have one more in the racks. We'll let that aerate for 30-40 and it'll likely start out as a 91 pointer, and possibly seek up from there!

The last sips were the best. Alas, lots of late bottle sediment. Should have stood it up for a day, first.

Great w pasta and shrooms.

We like it!

Wow, that a vin so big & bold, with such a glass-fillling nose, unbreakable and full, is also so supple, refined, tangential- in that it seems to work as the focus or the background equally well. Hmmm.. Beguiling. We only coravin'd a (very full - oh why do we bother?) glass.

When we fork the cork to decant, it may open in a whole new way. If it does, we'll write then too...

Bought it 3/2018 from Wine Social, Oxford, for $49. Cellared since. Well worth that. And the five year wait in the racks...

Rare, only 325 cases in total!

Nearly up there w the best Penfolds Bin 389s...

Yum.

NOTE: Emptied the previous-day-coravin'd bottle, and it was more cohesive, more delicious, smoother, and we bumped it to a 92...

Enjoy!!!

Our last one. So SAD!

We cracked these every 2 years, nearly the same weekend, as it turned out... Weird. This one was our Valentine's night out, at the phenomenal MB Italian in Sterling Heights. They allow bottles for a very modent corkage fee. We dropped pics here w the Burrata & peppers and then the unbelieveable Carbonara pasta, straight from the torch-warmed parmesan bowl. Lord above, it's why we work so hard!!!

Holding up just fine. A solid, fruit forward blend with complexity, sophistication, nuance and layered offerings allowing us to talk about, share and enjoy this beauty, and the wonderful memories from Healdsburg buying them all, so many years ago.

Great job, Williamson!

Big, bold, fruit forward blend. Terrific loudmouth vin to tease with, while our 1985 Nalle Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel simmered in the decanter during the Superbowl.

The flavor's wonderful, what Caymus wishes it was, but, like that popular juice, this one didn't offer complexity, sophistication or much (if any) discussion-worthy nuance.

So, we top this yummy beverage out at 91, while flying above that for us, requires more layered breadth to get into, chew on, and be wowed by.

Enjoy!

Opened dusty. Well, 23 years, duh, yeah! Smoothed out over 60 minutes and the fruit said hello! Welcoming, rich, full, invited more pours, more enjoyment so we obliged and were rewarded. Don't know how much time it has left, but it's good today!

Drink up.

We expected so much more.

It seemed to us the blindfold was put on before the winemaker proceeded to make this skin-free drink.

The price tag on the gift bottle we received also added to our expectations. $30 cooking wine, really?

We baked some lake-Michigan-caught salmon from an outing earlier in the summer, enjoyed with mushroom risotto, steamed peas, and a dab of Tabasco on the plate for the swimmer.

We just wished we would have picked a different wine. Nose was reasonably light and open. Nothing particularly pretty about the drab, transparent color. Flavor was nearly non existent but we'd rather have had water with our delicious meal.

Typically our whites are stone fruit, acid backbone, olfactory-inviting German reisling kabinetts or spatlese...

We'll stick w those gems.

A beautifully fragrant, incredibly welcoming nose, brings you in. Right in, deep, to a ruby medium, tasty palate. A nearly sturdy backbone keeps it from being flabby at the edges. Acid, structured, good stuffs.

Strong fruit. No complexity per se, but we like it.

We'd like to try this over time, but it was a gift bottle. Our only one.

We bought a few of these after a PRP tasting, and don't mind them at all. It opens up friendly enough with a punch at the end of the finish that seems to smooth out over dinner, as it develops a smokiness- almost tobacco like- but it's very tasty, and we'd be happy to have it any time again.

It was a gift from a friend over the Summer, and we drank it Halloween week; and like another CT reviewer said, it surely "didn't embarrass itself." We've had some pretty bad gifts of wine over the years. This is not bad at all. No depth, complexity, or acid backbone for cellaring, BUT not bad juice overall. Decent fruit, and our glasses kept emptying. What else could one ask for?

We found a local store with it for 20 bucks a bottle, and one of our guests is going now to buy a case of it...

Be well.

Beautiful nose, like a smooth, inviting Tuscan blend. Coravin'd then opened & emptied over two days. About $42 and seemingly floats just right in those waters, so we're ok with that. It does not, however, punch above its weight. Medium/heavy body, but not much complexity of which to speak.

Might buy again,... but Cocodrillo Corte, and Brancaia Ilatraia exist, and offer a better, richer vin beverage at essentially equivalent wallet exit.

Anyway, glad we tried it. You probably will be too.

Augusta, Missouri, our nation's first AVA. Napa was number 2.

There's nothing sophisticated or complex about this fruity spritzer-type beverage.

But it needs not, such adornments and accolades, as it's pertineeer as friendly as one could hope, for a lite, fruity aperitif.

We like the few Peach beverages we've had with bubbles a bit better, as those are like excellent replacements for mimosas, but this one is yum too.

Coravin'd a glass. Wow this welcoming, rich, velvety blend is a beauty. Normally we wouldn't even bother to leave a TN for a single glass, knowing we'd be enjoying the bottle soon.

But golly, this is G O O D stuff!!!

Many awesome bottles remind us of 10+ YO Penfolds juice, w tobacco, pepper, smoke & earth. This is one of those relished gems.

Couldn't get a feel for aeration and how or whether it'd get better with time, because, well, um, the glass was empty nearly as quick as it was set at the table for the yummy vegetarian red pasta sauce dish.

This is dinner table, yum.

We'll detail out further info when we fork out the cork.

We enjoy our Bin 389 at a decade. So we figured we'd crack this 2012 so many CTers are raving about. Good stuff! So much fine sediment, the vin glass sides were caked. We'll try and post a pic. It was friendly. Nearly a gifted bottle. Hold the ribbons, however. The flavor fulfilled, but the complexity lacked. Nice mid/lite body, opaquely dark, terrific olfactory.

We won't buy it at $60+ because, well, Bin 389 is a calling- and in the $40s (when on sale),... but glad a client gifted us this happy beverage.

Very earthy, with grit and a roughness to it- as opposed to a cohesive, smooth, silky blend.

It adds to the depth and character, as well as conversation and interest in the juice.

It is certainly no consumer-friendly fruit bomb, so many pursue these days.

Black fruits, anise, charcoal, dust.

We like it precisely because it's N O T a typical fruit forward bomb beverage.

But its nose, body. character, flavors and finish don't don't quite get it into the nineties for us...

For the $70 we paid, there are many other bottles we'd prefer.

The only time we saw it, and heard of it- ever. Glad to have checked it off our list!

It's good, and a case buy, for us, at $35+/-. But it's smaller batch than that price, so we're done with this tasty stuff.

The best, most structured, lively, perhaps built to go down for a while, and continually emptied glasses of the Augusta & Defiance, MO wine trail, we have enjoyed. Absolutely the best view.

We learned Norton is the native regional grape, so we tried plenty over the trail days. Some "Reserve" Norton's of neighboring vineyards weren't as good, and we only bought Montelle 'regular' Norton bottles for our cellar.

Come wow yourself in MO. Never even knew a 'wine trail' existed here.

As we sat in the 97° heat w 75% humidity under a blazing sun pouring over the hillside berries, all while the location offers enough climate variance to make ice wine in some vintages, we realized, it all made sense!

We like this!

Nose is a flourish of fruit and herbs. A market garden on display. Leave it for a while and a richness opens, enveloping further, your enjoyment of the gift.

A dozen years since this fruit was growing. A dozen minutes, the legs take to trundle back down.

Welcoming indeed. Girth, body, life in a glass.

A burnt toast is balanced by dark red fruits, and this nets a dusty, harmonious, tasty grape juice.

HOWEVER, it doesn’t seem to offer the complexity of, say, a decade-racked Bin 389, so, for our money, we’ll take one of those over this, and that’s what tops us out at 92, but this is really good- and getting better- vin.

The finish is worthy of discussion, so, we’ll discuss. Yum & lengthy. Nuf said.

Drink sum!

Pucker tight. This bottle is SO German it's like drinking a BMW.

Structured, formal. Stone fruit all day. Not sweet at all. But lite, lithe, supple in its delivery. A no humidity, desert Spring day in a bottle.

This juice goes down so smoothly, almost forget we gotta work tomorrow...

May 14, 2002, we met at a Tigers game. May 14, 2022, we cracked this 20 YO beauty and went to the Tigers game. Think Kenny Rogers "20 Years Ago" song. Cept, this is a happy story, not one of sadness and longing, but of wine and best friends for decades!

There's a depth in well made wine which shows itself over significant time. We believe it simply cannot be manufactured. Just rack it well, over a decade, and let the bricked edges glow, and these rich earth notes weave themselves into the vin... Yum!!!

Here we are again on an Anniversary. Heck, we love vin so much, we celebrate the anniversary of joining CT! Or maybe we love any reason to party...

Why not, right?

This Newton was not as rewarding as a typical decade old Bin 389, but it's still showing well.

We PnP'd two small glasses, decanted and left for hours. Four ticks later the wine did not get better... Wow, maybe we dont have this whole aeration decanting thing down. We think, two decades bottled up, it'll grow through air time. Nope. Not really.

Anyway, tasty juice.

If you have one or some of the 375 cellared CT bottles as of this date, we don't believe more rack time will improve this beverage.

Enjoy!

There's a character in well made wine that coalesces around time. It's a fruit tree of varying offers. A richness of leather, tobacco, silk and pepper that satisfies the olfactory, coats the lips, and cannot be manufactured. The juice simply must be racked well in excess of 15+ years - in our experience - a timeframe where these notes weave themselves into the vin, seemingly birthed of thin air. They were simply NOT there five, eight or even ten years back. These were really good grapes.

If a drinker always insists on cracking open prematurely, such a beverage, they'll never understand the depth of purpose appropriate aging offers.

This beauty had such an effect on our nose and palate. The finish, however, was touch short for such a polished, solid gem of a bottle, limiting our overall score.

We hope all people who claim to love wine get to taste, enjoy and understand this rewarding discovery of properly aged, well made vin.

This bottle comes with a story... Oh but don't all of ours ;)~

May 7, 1997, the California Mustang was purchased. In driving it home, that Wednesday night Napa Valley was weaved through. Still remember the T intersection at Lake Berryessa. Oh the yumminess. Well, these 1997 harvest grapes were growing that night, as the Stang rolled by. Here, on an eve 25 years hence, this bottle was cracked for the memory and enjoyment. The video (now DVD) taken of the entire 2100 mile trek, was watched tonight, and a good time was had by all.

These twenty five year old grapes were sequestered- just for us- and we made a wonderful pasta to pair with- then took some pics.

Unlike the Mustang (or us), this bottle was likely past its prime, scoring only a 90 the way we see it.

We still have a few more "last century" bottles left in the cellar, and will revel in them on future anniversaries of other wonderful life memories.

Enjoy.

Purchased Sept '18 from Royce, downtown Detroit. Yum. This was our second bottle of the night, after an Aussie Shiraz. The Aussie was big, fruity, bold. This beauty was immediately green, earthy, forest floor on a wonderful hike... This is good stuff. We decanted it and she paid further dividends. Has some complexity to enjoy. Layers. Medium body opaqueness in a bright, friendly package. It's a welcoming, lively, Malbec, deserving of its high 80s scores... More would not be a bad thing... For the $22 we paid, one could do MUCH worse!

This is good stuff. Opaque. Thick. Fruit. We mean, the balance with the supported backbone, but not rigid, smooth in its approach... What are we saying...???... Jeez!!!

Anyway, this is tasty juice. It'll hold up for YEARS to come. Trust us, rack this right and it's got the backbone to handle the time. Yes, like 87TELLUB says, we detect that graham cracker too, and dark spice and river-fresh welcomeness. Yup, we just made that word up, and we're sticking to it.

Enjoy, or sit it a few more Halloweens. Either way, this is a winner. The sugars and sediment clung to the glass like being taped on. Legs all day. It's not that smooth Italian Bordeaux Blend; no silk here, but, darn it's big and bold and offering. We'll take it.

Bottle was GONE in under two hours.

Be well. Peace wishes to Ukraine.

In our cellar 2 years. A PRP gift bottle from an order. We've had good Hungarian vin, this is not it. First pour, the juice was so light and translucent, we'd've never guessed it was Cabernet. That's not a good sign right off the bat.

Then, the green pepper on the nose distracted from what we were expecting.

Finally, on the palate, flimsy, lite, jammy, fruit-juice like, kool aid overwhelms. Almost a poor example of a sweet dessert vin.

Oh well, it's gone now. We didn't dump it. But it took a while to get it all down.

Fascinating that the 2018 vintage of this Bordeaux blend made Wine Enthusiast's number ONE wine of 2021, and gave it 95 points. We think the '18 must be a much better offering than the not-bad '14 we just drank.

An inviting sweet tobacco nose. Not full integrated but a tasty vin. Perhaps rack time over the next few years will benefit, but, we chose to crack this bottle, this night.

A ton of sediment in the last pour. Speaking of the last pour, this bottle went fast. And it drank very well. A medium body Bordeaux with a nice finish and a not-at-all-hot 13.5%, which we appreciated and it made us comfortable to kill the entire bottle in one, asiago cheese filled charcuterie board dinner...

Sitting here watching Netflix's Inventing Anna, feeling all fancy with our French Margaux.

So, we'll say, give it another year and enjoy. Good stuff.

Apparently we grabbed this in March 2018, for $12.... Not bad at all! A great intro bottle followed by 2014 Center of Effort Pinot and eventually a '12 Bin 389.

Great night! Super Bowl watching our former Detroiter, Stafford win it all.

Our vin order was grand...

This Bordeaux,
Center of Effort Pinot,
Then a friend had never tried Caymus so we opened that, and then gave him a real wine with place and complexity- Bin 389.

Be well.

This is a terrific vin. It boasts a friendly, inviting nose, with an opaque, full body richness. On the palate, it's offering a silky smoothness, like an Italian blend, not gritty-girthy like some other yummies. This beverage offers a discussion worthy 90+ points. Go Lebanon!!!

flawed
Must have been flawed... we bought this bottle in Oradea, Romania in Summer 2018 because the CT scores were so high (90+). Home in our luggage, cellered since. But geez, it's NOWHERE near these reviews. A harsh, grungy nose, a funk of motor oil, burnt toast, and cigarette butts. Ugh and ugly.

Tell us, that's a flawed bottle, right? We had such high hope all this time...

Well, we'll dump it, and go CRACK SOME OTHER BOTTLE! yeah!!!

Here's to the next one...

No, we'll vacu-vin and try it tomorrow. We'll see...

Be well, all.
