Been holding on to this wine for years to have on a special occasion. Beautiful ruby in colour. Notes of red fruit and floral. Very elegant tannins. Great wine, would I pay this again, probably not. Maybe my palate is not refined enough.

1/14/22, 8:29 AM - Not sure what I was expecting, but I am finding that there are so many great wines in the world, that I am not sure you can ever justify the price for wines like this. Still fun to drink, but when you buy, you buy for other reasons than just enjoying the wine.

Wow, a 17 year old BC wine and it is still drinking well. Beautiful notes of cedar, leather, and stewed fruit. Lovely dark ruby colour with notes of garnet. This wine is drinking very well right now and could still drink well for next 5 years. Drank this next to a right bank bordeaux and the BC wine was more alive.

10/12/21, 5:31 PM - Yes I know I need to drink the 1981. A little worried about state, but trying to save for the right dinner/occasion. Yes Covid has made me start to drink down some of those jewels. No time like the present

Wow, this wine is still young. These wines definitely show best in my opinion after 10 - 15 years. Still lots of fruit, but tannins more integrated and smooth, but lots of interesting flavors. Bell Pepper, cedar, cassis, and chocolate. Will drink well for another 10 years.
  • rexmerlot commented:

9/23/21, 8:39 AM - Drank it next to a 2006 Osoyoos Larose. Two totally different wines. The OL tasted its age, the Quilceda was still young. Interesting comparison. Both have there place.

Clear dark purple in colour. Clean nose of cassis and flora notesl. Dry, med body, med acidity, elegant tannins, nice balance, cassis, black chocolate, and earth on backend. Nice finish. Very nice wine. I took a break from Nota Bene for a few years. Wanted to see the wines after the recent great seasons in the Okanagan. Nota Bene didn't disappoint. Definitely one of the classier wines of the Okanagan. Looking forward to trying more.
  • rexmerlot commented:

10/4/16, 8:18 AM - Funny you should comment on the Nota Bene. Just came back from a 17 year vertical of Nota Bene at winery on weekend. Who says that BC wines cannot age. The 1999 was past its prime, but was still in great shape, and if you like older wines, you would still enjoy this. I will be going out and buying a few more of the 2014's.

  • rexmerlot commented:

10/6/16, 9:18 AM - Thanks for suggestions. I will look out for those 2 wines. I love finding well prices surprises like these.

2/17/21, 1:03 PM - I like Nota Bene, but like yourself I have found myself more intrigued by other wines in the OK. I took a break from the club a few years ago, but still buy one bottle of Nota Bene each year for my collection. I also joined Painted Rock last year and love their wines, but also I like to support the smaller producers.

Drinking this wine young, but have 5 other bottles to drink to watch how this wine changes. Dark ruby red in color. Notes of black fruit and licorice. Dry, med body, med acidity, med tannins. I have had older vintages of this wine, and even though it is nice now, I am sure this will be amazing in 5 - 10 years.

Beautiful clear dark ruby in colour. Notes of black currant, licorice, cedar and dark chocolate. Dry, med body, med acidity, elegant tannins. Med finish. Only 3 years old, a baby, and drinking so well. Love all of Bills wines, but this one hilights his skill. It blends old world elegance with new world style. I think this could easily age another 10-15 years easily. I still think Fairview Cellars and Bill are the biggest unsung heros of BC wine.
  • rexmerlot commented:

9/19/20, 8:45 PM - Love Bills wines overall, older and younger. But I am starting to feel I am more impressed when they are younger. Overall I love BC wines around 6 years of age, but I am by no means a pro at this and still figuring things out.

Dark purple in color. Notes of blackberry, violet, licorice, and tobacco. Very big wine, hard to believe it was 14 years old.
  • rexmerlot commented:

7/9/20, 12:41 PM - Just realized I put 4 years old. Just fixed it. Mollydooker definitely makes big wines. It is a style I think I appreciated years ago, and less so now. Still nice, but just a bit too jammy for my palate now. They are more interesting when older, and I based on this wine, they could age for many more years.

7/4/19, 9:23 AM - Glad to have another BB club member out west. I have been a member for several years, and it is one of the few wine clubs I have stayed on. Largely for all their small batch releases. Always exciting to see what they come out with, and always a learning experience. I can't say that about allot of wine clubs.

  • rexmerlot commented:

7/15/19, 2:01 PM - Sorry for delay. I was out of town. I have cancelled most of my local wine club memberships for the reasons you mentioned. I can buy most of the wines I like locally. Not enough small batch unique offerings to make the membership worth it. I do buy from wineries but find it is not worth joining club, getting 5 wines I can buy elsewhere if I want them, just to get the one bottle that is unique to club. BB is my only club at this point.

Wow loved this wine. For anyone who is unsure about BC reds. Dark purple in color. Notes of black currant, vanilla, dark chocolate, and light pepper on finish. Dry, med body, nice acidity, smooth tannins. Still young, many years left on this wine.
  • rexmerlot commented:

2/7/19, 10:07 PM - Go buy some more! This wine rocked. I went to a VQA store here after drinking this and bought 4 bottles. Road 13 is still selling from vineyard. Was a very nice drinking wine, lots of fruit, but still lots of other notes, and was so enjoyable to drink. Not sure if it was just the night, but I would say this was the nicest BC red I have drank.

Deep dark purple in color. Notes of Blackberry, vanilla, licorice, and pepper on nose and palate. Dry, med+ body, nice acidity, elegant tannins. This wine is not all about the packaging, but it is still impressive. Very big, and still very young. Straight out of bottle was a fruit bomb. But after some time decanting started to mellow out. Will be great in another 5 years.
  • rexmerlot commented:

2/7/19, 10:05 PM - The VG was just a notch above. I loved the Carnival, but the glove just had a little more elegance to it. I think I drank it way too early though. I think in 10 years this wine would have been stunning. I had a 98 Elderton Command Shiraz the same night and the additional 11 years made the wine that much less a fruit bomb and more classy

  • rexmerlot commented:

5/6/16, 9:44 AM - The Certitude is a very nice wine, and I would have to say it is worth the price. However, I am not sure you will love its style. I remember your comment on Two Hoots, and this is a big wine. Price on wine is a tricky thing. I enjoy a Osoyoos Larose or Laughing Stock as much as the Oculus. Yes Oculus has some interesting things going on, but does that justify the additional $50? I don't think so. If you like big California wines you will like the One Faith wines, and they are comparable, but if it was coming from California it could be twice the price. I almost like the Certitude as much as the Grand Vin, and at $49 it is a better price. But be warned it is big and jammy, and may not be your cup of tea ... but always worth trying once. Love to hear your thoughts.

So much for BC wines being short lived. I found the 2013 two hoots, bigger, not as elegant. However, I think that will be the case with 2013 in BC. Such a warm year.

Wow. This wine was 50 years old. Still had fruit, some tannins still showing through, and continued to evolve through night. We were unable to get cork out in one piece, so we had to filter wine into a decanter. On nose no funk, just currant, spearmint, and floral notes. Med acidity, med body, elegant tannins, and lots of fruit and spice on palate. Had some notes of cedar and graphite. Med finish. This wine could still go on for a couple of more years. A great bottle of wine, one I will remember.
