Medium light body, looks just like cranberry juice in the glass, strong peppery/bell pepper/green peppercorn notes on the nose, you can tell immediately this is old school, a cool vintage for sure; palate is lean, but with just enough strawberry/raspberry flavor, higher acidity but not overly tart, just a touch of a sour note, more green peppercorn, crisp and taut, probably will seem austere to some, but has a lot of interest, with subtle complexities. I have no idea how this will age, I would venture a guess at shorter than longer. Food will definitely enhance this.

clearly some salinity from the sea
clearly some chardonnay
the blend with grechetto makes this unique with a softer rounder mouth feel
you do have to decide if the qpr is worth it
it is for me

2013 Ronchi di Cialla Friuli Colli Orientali Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso di Cialla
Wine Tasting in Friuli-Venezia Giulia - Ronchi di Cialla and Venica & Venica; 11/14/2022-11/17/2022 (Cialla, Dolegna del Collio, Trieste): Tasted at the winery with Ivan. 2013 is the current vintage - surprising for me as I have always thought of Refosco as a fruity jug type wine but this is serious stuff. Somewhat similar in to the schioppettino with red fruit and earth but a bit brawnier and weightier on the palate. Tannins are round though this is not rustic. Ivan likes to pair this with more robust dishes like goulash (stew). Fermented in neutral oak and kept in barrel for one year then aged in bottle. Very surprising and enjoyable !

More dirty and oxidative than I can read from other reviewers. Defect? Really difficult to say when Jura is the origin..

Color: medium ruby
Nose: ripe red cherry, dusty. Small black berries. Rhubarb. I get very interesting notes here like parsley and wood varnish, they unfurl with time and air. I do not get oak. Menthol and Thai basil, moth balls.
Palate: quite seductive with medium acidity and soft tannin, for a medium body. Fruit here too, black sugary licorice candy, coats the mouth very oily.
Finish: medium

I am very much of a novice on morgons. This one strikes me as a pleaser already, but it evolved a lot in the glass and it had whiffs of really interesting primary things that make me think that i am early. That said the structure here isn't towering, this is nice and friendly. Definitely want to see if I can find some with a bit of age here, as well as get a second bottle and do a long decant. But I enjoyed what I had tonight
  • Pey2001 commented:

8/20/21, 5:25 AM - Great note! Foillard's Morgons can definitely age, especially the Côte du Py. Although I haven't had much of this vintage, probably up to 10 years. In my experience, they start to get some really interesting secondary flavours. His are the most complex Beaujolais that I've had. Love them!

Luftades i 2,5 timmar.

Decanted for over an hour. Deep garnet color. Nose of cherries and violets, more muted on the palate with cherries, black olive, and earthy notes. Enjoyed with callotte de boeuf. So many mixed reviews on this wine to where folks were saying that it was over extracted and needed years to balance out. Probably should have tried this wine at least 5 years earlier. Still impressive and complex. Just a bit over the hill imo. Drink up.

Different releases for this vintage - at least one in 2013 and another in 2017 to my knowledge. And this particular bottle was released in 2017. PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass ("Flower" day): Medium garnet with ruby tints to the eyes with lots of fine deposits.

Savoury, animale, chocolate notes upfront. With some swirls in glass reveals bright purplish and ruby cherry fruits, earthy, florals and spices. Hints of VA that does not bother

Bright and mouthwatering acidity, with some VA. Good sense of minerality too. Good grip of the fruit flavours on palate. Tannins are not yet fully resolved and is a little powdery, but already quite the complete wine. Sadly some brett towards the finish that is quite spicy and long.

Unique expression of Gamay that feels more like a Syrah with more ruby cherry fruits to me. Would be amazing with food. 93 points.

2 hours upon opening, 2/3 left (turning “leaf” day): Clearly more luxurious set of purplish and darker red fruits. More edgy wine overall and more grippy tannins which is now better structured.

12 hours upon opening, with nightly rest in fridge uncorked, small amount left in bottle: Better integration indeed, quite a bit of fine deposits towards the bottom of the bottle.

The Ochota folks continue to earn a reputation that is amazing. This is low alcohol, balanced acid magic. At this point, it has become pull and pour magic that is great with food. At 12% alcohol, this is everything that is modern grenache. I wish I had more than the three bottles I bought!

Quite nice and especially for the price. Dark dense ruby in the glass. Pencil shavings and plum on the nose. It's quite lively with acidity in the mouth, an initial sweetness ends dry but not drying. More pencil shavings, some dark red and blue fruit, and a hint of sous bois. Light dusty tannins follow. A good Bordeaux blend, with interest and verve. Its not earth shattering, but it manages to be both approachable now with indications that it could age for 5 - 10 years with interest. I was initially regretful that I'd bought a case, but I take it back and think this will be an interesting, if uncomplicated wine to come back to over the next few years.

Reminiscent of Gilles Berlioz's Les Friponnes last year the nose here has a distinct note that to me is very much yoghurt-like - if a bit too much at first it did integrate quite nicely in a short time. Besides that note the nose is classic alpine stuff: very bright and fresh, somewhat restrained aromatically yet not vegetal at all. On the palate it has quite a rich mouthfeel and a lot of oomph to it, especially considering the 12% ABV. The acidity is downright fantastic, providing a great lift, energy and freshness. There is plenty of crisp fruit and some more developed tones that indicate some sur lie ageing having taken place. I love the tangy edge here, this drinks extremely well on its own and is simply a very attractive wine.

Different releases for this vintage - at least one in 2013 and another in 2017 to my knowledge. And this particular bottle was released in 2013. PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass ("Fruit" day): Medium garnet to the eyes with lots of fine deposits.

Fresh earthy, herbal and savoury notes of seaweed. Nice underlying secondary red and purplish cherry fruits. Dash of fine spices. Some stemmy herbaceous and roasted coffee notes that adds to the complexity. There is clearly VA here but still within my acceptable range. Very nice bouquet in my view.

Quite clean and refined on the palate with all the fine deposits, especially on the fruity flavours - a highly detailed spectrum of darker cherries and plums.

Quite a serious effort here to me, and not unlike a high classed Syrah from Northern Rhone to the feel. Hard to put this under 93 points. Reserved for longer term observations.

15 minutes upon opening, 2nd pour: Opening nicely with chocolate-like notes emerged and the first impression is really quite close to the Cote-Rotie 2015 tasted just a while ago... just without the youthful austerity and the extra smoky notes here. Good level of silky tannins too providing great grip of flavours towards the finish. Very interesting to observe the pour-to-pour evolution here. Upgrade to 93-94 points.

45 minutes upon opening, 3rd pour: the integration kicks in with a highly mineral palate at this point. This wine appears to be very much alive with lots of energy to evolve further. More 94 points to me now.

1 hour upon opening, 4th pour: wow the density of fruit really went up significantly now. Nicely powerful and very much an impression of a top Syrah from Northern Rhone with some age. Wow what a Beaujolais...

2 hours upon opening: The fruits somehow managed to became more airy and even more detailed and less “natural”... They are not more Bourgogne Pinot like feel to it with more purplish and blue berry fruits with peels. Very interesting.

3 hours upon opening, 3/4 into the bottle: just incredible how this bottle managed to get purer by every pour... There is something extra special that is honestly not easy to describe towards the end of the bottle - more red berry fruits, quite ethereal and just beautiful notes here. An extra lift compared to first opened. May be hard to imagine for most but for me this is close to 94-95 points now... For those who are lucky enough to have a bottle of this, please do take your time in enjoying this bottle, albeit it might be hard to resist finish it rather quickly.

This was one of the batch of Ségla 2010 bottled under screwcap for Farr Vintners, which got rave reviews at the Southwold 'Ten Years On' tasting recently. It was decanted for a couple of hours (there was a small amount of sediment).

It's a very suave, forward claret, exactly as a second wine of a great château should be. The bouquet is excellent, very fragrant. On the palate it is soft and elegant, with plenty of fruit. The aftertaste is medium-length. Unlike the Southwold tasters I didn't think it was of anything approaching the quality of the grand vin of a top estate in a year like 2010, since it doesn't have the heft, concentration and complexity. Still, a very good wine. Ready but will keep.

Very pale straw in the glass. On the nose it is a bit grassy in addition to the faint oxidised odour, like a weak sherry. Also maybe a bit of chalk? I was expecting more punch, but it's actually quite subtle. On the palate, an initial slight nuttiness of the flor is followed by a quite linear acidity. It finishes remarkably long, and with a faint pith and bitterness that tidies up the palate on the back end. I've been waiting a while (and with great eagerness) to try one of my Puffeney Savagnins. It's much more delicate than I was expecting. Like a very very light fino sherry, but with a more fruity, and lengthier persistence. Very yummy, but serious as well.
  • Pey2001 commented:

2/22/20, 2:56 PM - Yes! I just read your review now and I agree. Having not had many Puffeney's wines, I don't have much to compare it to, but it is much less oxidative than some other Juras I've been drinking recently. But still good! And the acidity really makes it interesting.

Another taste from my inherited clutch. Unfortunately all these bottles were poorly kept. This one is bricked, a pale brownish red. It's certainly oxidised, but actually really yummy! No acidity or tannin, it has an almost caramel flavour. I'd think about serving this as a very dry desert wine! Definitely off, and you might say flawed, but strangely compelling...
  • Pey2001 commented:

The greatest Beaujolais I’ve ever had. Purple color notes of dark berries finishing on a slightly and unheard of tanic lengthy finish. Hurry and purchase as many as you can while quantities last as I fear that shelves will empty fast on this one. Priced $30 CAD, will last 5 to 10 years. A monumental achievement in the monumental 2018 vintage.

Followed this over a few nights. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, brown gold colour. Long legs. Cloudy at end of bottle.
Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of salted fish, salty Fino Sherry Manzanilla-like, honey nectar, dried plums, wilted flowers. Developed.
On the palate, medium sweet, very high acidity, high alcohol (15%), full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet&sour dried plums, savoury salty minerality, honey nectar, wilted dried flowers, browning cabbage leaves. Extremely ripe concentrated tangerines with more air. Long finish.
Very good quality I suppose. One of the most intriguing wines I've had recently. Initially felt slightly oxidized (though this is supposedly one of the non-oxidative Savagnin wines), then with more air and over the next 2 nights it actually feels less oxidative! Weird right?! Not sure if I am imagining it but the freshness level also seemed to increase with more air. This wine should survive for a long time, though I really don't know how it is going to develop in the bottle. Enjoyable and grows on you.
Late harvest (November) Savagnin that has already withered and dried on the vine. Matured in 400 litre tonneau for 2 years. Barrels are kept topped up during that time.

Tasted blind in VV.

Intense yellow-green color. Quite expressive and tropical nose with moderately noticeable creaminess and aromas of pineapple, peach, some vanilla and a hint of toasty wood character. Overall the nose comes across pretty balanced and harmonious. The wine feels broad, full-bodied and creamy on the palate with complex flavors of exotic fruits, buttery character, some nuttiness, a little bit of vanilla and a hint of mineral freshness. The high acidity lends very nice balance to the wine. The finish is pretty mineral with steely precision, some creaminess and lengthy flavors a lemon-driven citrus fruits, some vanilla, a little bit of pineapple and a hint of nuttiness.

A complex and promising white wine that feels still quite a bit too youthful and oak-driven at this point. Not showing its best now, but holds good potential for future development. Holding my score a bit for now, expecting it to rise nicely with years in cellar. Pretty pricey at 35,30€, but not prohibitively so.

As others have said oxidative , dull yellow acidic and reminiscent of all the awful white Riojas of the past, I am obviously missing something as many think this "traditional" style is very good, each to his own,
In real terms as I would never buy this wine again the score is far to generous.I have now got to get rid of my other two bottles, luckily I know someone who will trade them for something to my taste as he thinks this wine is great !
