Not ready. At least 10 years more to be in its prime. I wonder if fellow reviewers had tasted a LLC in its prime. I also think all this 99 scores here are product of love for the house or respect for WS or WA ratings. At this stage no way it can merit a 95 plus. Closed, tight and delivering little even after a 4 hour decant. Of course you can hint at the greatness it will achieve through the layers it already shows, but only in 10 years. Do yourself a favor and forget about your bottles of this until 2030 and your patience will be undoubtedly rewarded with a 100 points wine. Or taste an 82 LLC and compare to this and you will believe in my advice

    11/16/19, 4:06 PM - Couldn’t agree more. I think many reviews here reflect what wa or ws says at about the wine, not what the reviewer really feels about it. Those who have been lucky enough to taste mature great wines of Bordeaux have to know that this wine is years from being ready. It is like some reviewers try to justify the ratings from wa or ws and not let the wine speak by itself

I concur with the last reviewer. This is a good and enjoyable wine. Perhaps there were bottle variations or poorly stored cases otherwise i can t explain the low scores from previous reviews from three or four years ago when this wine should have been entering its peak. Right now it is slightly past its peak but still can offer a very good experience. In fact, i am going to look after some more at current internet price is a steal. Black fruits, hoisin sauce, a bit of tar and spice on the nose which is very much alive now, on the palate is balanced and a bit light for an Aussie wine, and there is were you feel like this is slightly past its peak, but again, at this stage all is well integrated. Drank after a 1 hour decant

    3/18/18, 9:18 AM - You have a point, moreover, I think the case for the aussie shiraz is that it is being consumed too young when it s a fruit bomb and nothing else. People have that odd notion that Shiraz has to be extracted and bold in the palate and don’t appreciate the beauty of aged shiraz therefore they just say it is faded when it don t show that profile. For me this bottle was just inches over the hill, meaning it still can provide one or two more years of enjoyable drinking. Cheers

Quite hedonistic. Definitely has further room to mature. Very vibrant red fruit. Initially perceived as a saccharine strawberry sherbet but becomes more of a cherry liqueur. Shows some black tea and Burgundian sweatiness. A touch of a caramelized note and maybe slightly minty. With time, some animal skin, showing the appellation. Silky texture with almost fully integrated tannins and medium-plus alcohol, but significant remaining acidity.

Last tasted 6 months ago, the wine is moving forward. Without doubt the best Talbot drinking at present, (including the 1982), the nose is full of blackcurrent, cedar, and old leather. The wine now feels mature on the palate with that uniqueness only a fully mature left bank Bordeaux can give. The tannin has bite but is resolved and the finish is steely but perfectly balanced and 30+ seconds. This is a grown up old fashioned Bordeaux starting to drink at its best and with the structure to stay here for 2 decades.
