2020 Jules Harrison Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County
Deep, ruby red looking wine - smoky smell and taste - musky herby smell - floral notes on the front of the mouth -

I do not have experience with this before and am not an expert, and certainly don't want to throw something out there like this lightly. But I thought the bottle I had was smoke tainted. My wife did not seem to notice, but it seemed quite apparent to me.

5/19/22, 12:25 PM - You are correct, in my view, about the smoke taint.
However, you must remember the wildfires that affected the region in September 2020....
This specific wine was an effort made by Cristom to support the community by attempting to make a wine using grapes from diverse producers that were considered suitable.
I agree it is not the best Cristom is able to offer but I am just trying to provide some perspective here...
    Cheers

    5/19/22, 1:01 PM - Totally understood, @Coupe 60!
I bought a few bottles to support when visiting the area and, coincidentally, I just drank a bottle of that wine yesterday evening. So, it is fresh in my mind and that’s why your review caught my eye.
    All the best!

Light overall, not too much length to the flavor but seems to lack complexity. Pretty smooth though

12/18/19, 8:26 AM - Surprised to see "light" as a description for this wine...

14.0% - Clear, deep garnet (surprisingly deep for it's age) / clean, med to pronounced intensity - blackberry, cassis, cedar, granite, dark chocolate, cigar box / dry, med+ acidity, med body, med+ dusty tannin, med+ intensity, med length. My only complaint is that it might be a little thin on the mid-palate and doesn't deliver the same complexity as a Bordeaux.
Still a couple of year ahead, even though I would not expect to improve much as its definitely within its drinking window. Nonetheless, this was interesting to taste a properly aged Cabernet Sauvignon from Portugal - old world style without any doubt.

8/23/19, 10:01 PM - The detail is that there is no Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. 90% Baga, 5% Castelão Nacional and 5% Moreto.

8/24/19, 4:33 PM - I can send you a picture of the bottle if you’d like...

8/28/19, 9:02 AM - My apologies. I see where the confusion is coming from. They do have both a Baga and a Cabernet Sauvignon bottling for the year.
