It is expensive ($100) but worth each sip!

2/15/23, 7:12 AM - I purchased several bottles (2014, 2015, and 2016) when visiting the winery in 2019. Paid $100 - $115 depending on vintage, so while I have enjoyed (not loved) my bottles, it pisses me off when I see Sinegal available at my Costco for under $70.

Another great bottle from Sherwin Family. A Cabernet that exuded black and a dark red fruit profile. Wonderful notes of chocolate and Spring Mtn (earthy notes) on the finish. This was a great Cabernet brought to a Ruth Chris wine dinner knowing how excellent and consistent Sherwin Family makes their wines. Never had a bad bottle from the Sherwin Family. Donna who runs there tasting experiences and is the primary customer point of contact truly is the best of the best in the wine industry. Hope to visit them again soon.

6/8/22, 4:51 PM - Agree about the great wines Sherwin puts out vintage after vintage! Been buying for years, and yes Donna is a gem.

6/8/22, 6:54 PM - Before covid (and the fire) my wife and I would try to make it to Napa every year, and Sherwin was literally the only winery we visited every time. Matt's a super great dude too! Usually tried to bring some sandwiches from Giugni's and have lunch and wine with Matt and Donna on the patio. Hope to get back soon!

Had this with CSIMM alongside a 2013 Tusk, 2013 Schrader RBS and 2014 Maybach Materium. This was fantastic, but in this group rated #3 of 4. Stiff competition.

Of all the wines we had, this was the one begging for more time in the bottle. If you pop this now I'd suggest no less than 6 hours decanting. I had my first taste after about 3 hours of air, and it was still putting out serious alcohol and oak. It really needs some time to come together, but there is a gorgeous beast lurking underneath the surface.

This was the darkest, blackest, most brooding and dense of the wines we tasted. When compared against the Schrader it came across much more concentrated and serious. The depth of blue black fruit flavors is quite amazing, and the purity is exceptional. Lots of length to this wine as well. Really something special, but do yourself a favor and give it more time.

12/16/17, 1:57 PM - Do you remember where the Maybach finished out of the 4? And would you more highly recommend the Maybach or Realm? Thank you!

  • edg2017 commented:

12/17/17, 5:57 AM - That’s a a tremendous help, and I’m most appreciative! From your description I believe the Maybach would best match my taste profile. Did you by chance have the opportunity to taste the ‘12 Maybach? If so, how would you compare it to the ‘14. I can pick up the ‘12 for $250 as opposed to $365 for the ‘14, and want to get the best “bang for my buck”. In general I love the way my ‘12s are drinking and haven’t really started opening my ‘14s. Thanks again and happy holidays!!!

12/17/17, 6:06 AM - The ‘13 Maybach is $389, so you can add that into the mix as well. Btw... The wine I select will be tasted along side a few selections including 2 additional Thomas Rivers Brown wines- Schraeder LPV, and Seaver GTS. Don’t yet know the others, but I want to bring the WOTN!!! Thanks again!
