Two bottles tasted with lamb 24 May 2013; one very good: rounded fruit, good length. The second unquestionably corked and unpleasant; maddening.

Rich, lots of fruit; closed at first but opened up after 2 hours. Kept under Vacuvin for 2 days and it had softened beautifully; harmonious and delicious.

Jancis Robinson writes that this wine is not for her - too port-like. I revere Jancis's judgment but disagree over this one. It is inviting and welcoming, a wine that makes me happy. Sweetish fruit, softened tannins, smooth and full in the mouth, unpretentious but very good indeed for what it is. After 10 years it seems to me to be at its peak and I look forward to making this a regular glass or two with forthright food. The last bottle went very well with a rich cottage pie; just the job.

Still youthful, purple rim, mouth-smacking, fresh red fruit [cranberry/damson?]. Quite delicious. It will be interesting to see this good-value wine mature over the next decade [if I decide to eke it out.]

Rich, full; Merlot dominates [70-80%]. Completely mature. Deep red, neutral at rim. Rich in mouth; good dark fruit with traces of ceda. Quite long. Very enjoyable.

Needed c.45 minutes in the glass before opening up to a wonderful experience. Harmonious, softened tannins, good raspberry/cherry fruit with cedar/leather behind. Very heady and long [c.90 seconds]. Much mroe impressive than the first bottle I tried 2 years ago. I'll leave the last for at least 2 more years
The wine looks Garnet colored.
It smells like Raspberry, Blueberry, and Sandalwood.

The last of a dozen. A little beyond its best but a nice drink; the case certainly did everything that BB&R said it would when I bought it en primeur.

Delicious, smooth tannins, good fruit; opened up well after a couple of hours in decanter. Just as good next day [as so often]

Decanted 2 hours before drinking, by which time the nose had opened up remarkably: warm, rich, cedary, with rich red fruit. Extraordinary in the mouth: full, unctuous, soft tanins, rounded structure; good fruit and gentle spices. Long aftertaste [30 seconds+], leaving a great sense of satisfaction and pleasure. A very fine wine, and I'm sorry I have no more. Good to share it with guests who knew what they were drinking.

This Rieussec was quite extraordinary, one of the best wines of any kind I've ever tasted. Deep golden brown colour which had made me wonder about maderisation. Very viscous when poured into the glass, exceptionally long legs. Nose dumb at first but opened up after 10 minutes or so. Powerful, full of life in the mouth with a vast range of plavours and textures. Stephen Brook in 'The Complete Bordeaux' had it exactly " "the apotheosis of the Vuillier style: rich in peachy botrytis, a touch raisiny, chunky and unctuous".

Cork dark mushroom moulded on the outside but clean on the inside and smelling good. Fabulous brilliant light gold and bright green in the glass; irridescent. Wonderful fresh nose, full of sun and life - reminding me of the great summer of 1976 when I drove across the almost dry Loire at Saumur. Intense, complex but very fresh and long in the mouth. Lingered. An extraordinary wine to remember with gratitude.

Deep rich colour and luminosity; rich fruit on the nose with some woody/leathery undertones. Fully mature, softened tanins; lovely relaxed feel in the mouth: red/dark fruit of course ans also something that felt like warmed skin. Very good indeed and absolutely ready. I shall be drinking most of the case in the next 2 years; can't be sure it will last very long. Stephen Brook says 'charming and stylish'.

Rich nose and colour. Delicious in mouth: soft tannins, clean fruit. Absolutely ready but still fresh. A lovely Pomerol.
