Nice color on initial pour. Really plummy and fruit forward, mellowed with food. Paired with steak and mushroom sauce. Some sediment at the end.

Earthy, probably could use another few years to develop. Let it open and the structure and finish start to loosen up. Great taste of Barolo w/o breaking the bank...
Red
1993 Château Montrose St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Strong annais nose, garnet with soft brown edges. Good legs. It mellowed well over time. Smooth and subtle. Money

A little funky at first sniff, nose kind of stayed bacon plum jammy, but mellowed nicely throughout the evening

Possibly flawed. Overly sweet like grape juice

2000 Château Gigault Cuvée Viva Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Soft on tannins, probably at the end of the drinking window, but smooth and silky. Lot of cherry and licorice. A little sediment tho, so decanting is a good call.

Sweet and very un-Syrah-like. Maybe too young?

Still had life in it. Earthy, smooth- with berry and anise, opened nicely quickly, faded a bit over an hour. Lots of sediment. As usual with a good wine it probably got consumed too quickly!!
White
Opened for a group, light citrus notes and little oak no vanilla made it a crowd pleaser

Dry cork upon removal, not a good sign, but mellow and earthy once filtered. Nice berry flavors and very smooth, but over time was fairly one-note.

Not overly oaked, this wine was a surprise. Good blend of pear, vanilla, and lemon, and a spicy note as well. Need to look for more!

2010 Château Marjosse Bordeaux Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
Immediately knew it would be good on first pour. Bountiful fruit - berry and cassis - on nose. A little smoke and leather. Wonderful mouth feel, beautiful and leggy in the glass. Wondering why we did not purchase more!!

Last bottle from our 2006 trip to France! Cork looked good. First whiff and taste was harsh, but opened beautifully over time. Antiseptic to begin, then rounded out into cherry and licorice, and so smooth. Crystalline sediment left. Overall a great way to celebrate 9 years of marriage

Earthy with currant and vine was smooth and got better as it opened. Notes of cocoa and other red fruits mellowed as the night went on. Great value too!

Berries and earth. Wonderful nose, great on its own. Didn't change much over time, but then again, we didn't give it more than a couple hours. Some sediment. Wish we knew where it came from tho.

Appealing nose blackberry and cherry. Went down with lots of smooth fruitiness. Enjoyed the wine on its own, did not pair well with a garlicky pork tenderloin.

Another great bottle we pulled out to make room for new additions. You gotta love progress. Opened and let it breath for 90 mins. Nice fruit nose with currant & spice. Dark color with a nice fruit in the body and classic Zin finish. A perfect pairing for a NY Strip to celebrate Valentines Day. It only grew better over the next 2 hours.

Nice to actually look in the wine cooler and have a chianti with a good nose, and great body for pasta with meatballs. Opened up nicely over a hectic dinner with 2 munchins to be enjoyed 2 hours later. Will pick up again...

Another beauty bringing in the new year. Rich in blackberry and currant, this wine was a pleasure to drink. Stood up to time, just mellowed and was still fine the next day. Wish we knew how much we paid. Will need to see if there is more out there

Mary and I had high hopes for this bottle but our worst fears were confirmed from the start. We had picked up this bottle from a wine store that had changed hands for the worse. Not sure on the provenance but the cork didn't give any hope as it was dry and crumbled from the bottle. The wine once decanted and strained was a lovely pale ruby like a proper aged burgundy appears. The color and was deceiving as this bottle was done in long before we got it.

Life is a journey of immanent discovery but this episode might keep us from treasure hunting in known dangerous waters...

Fantastic and smoky, great nose fully of blackberry jam, and tasted lovely. Would have mellowed over more time and if decanted. Good with grilled ribeye.

A gift that our friend Matt shared with us as he prepared to move out of state. This bottle was a treasure he was rewarded with after a charity event he worked at a wine patron's estate. I can't do the wine justice in words but it was delightful in its structure, complexity and balanced maturity- a great wine shared by a good friend on a somewhat sad occasion.

Classic aged CS - we enjoyed the first glass with a sirloin. Decanted and needed to wait longer that we did. Nice licorice nose w/ some hint of alcohol. Mature but bottled up as the 2nd glass an hour later revealed the complexity that age had brought to the "hot" mouth feel and finish.
