2006 Wendouree Shiraz Malbec Clare Valley Red Blend

Dark, as it should be.

Marzipan intense french oak.

Intense wine, that handles the oak and is beautifully balanced, so that it is drinkable now, though it does still seem very young. I don't detect the slightest sign of secondary aged character yet.

Such a lot of flavour, a big Aussie wine but in no way a Parkerised wine. 13.2% alcohol.

Yet unlike some of the Wendouree wines of the past there is a modern succulence. And it really is all the better for it.

5/25/19, 6:20 PM - I like the comment about succulence. The 2009 W Shiraz left the same impression, courtesy of excellent fruit/tannin/acid balance. Similar trait in the 2010 and 2014 Shiraz tasted recently. The shot of fine natural acid the ancient vines give Wendouree reds sets them apart from so many South Australian wines.
