The bottle condition was excellent, the cork although in one piece was very fragile. In the glass the wine was mid yellow with the slightest of green tinge. - fantastic appearance. The nose was muted on opening with slight evidence of petrol. On the palate there was a slight effervescence and a touch of sweetness, probably sitting between spaetlese and kabinett on my own chart. There were hints of tropical fruit and it paired well with marmalade cake and fresh fruit. I don't see the score improving, its 45 years old and still holding on well. 6 more bottles to go...

Decanted 2-3 hours prior to drinking. Lots of crystalised sediment near the cork. Drank alongside a mexican chilli and was a nice pairing.
Medium red, semi-opaque like a Barolo. Lovely nose of red fruits and cedar/cigar box. Tannin has mellowed nicely and acidity well balanced with fruit.
Great drink, don't think I'll be able to track the lifecycle as I only have 1 bottle left. Quality Rioja.

Decanted for a couple of hours to pair with a beef and Guinness stew that had been cooked for days. Visuals were difficult as the dining area had subdued lighting. On the nose lovely cigar box and developed fruits of the forest. The palate was lovely evolved fruits of forest with classic bordeaux complexity that you get from age. This particular bottle is entering a perfect phase for drinking. Wonderful.

Popped and poured for a Scottish thanksgiving dinner (amongst other wines.) frankly I didn't like this at all. It is a massive, overly extracted brute of a wine. In the glass it's dark red/purple which reveals itself on the nose and palate. Lots of pencil shavings and forest fruits on the nose. But the palate is something different, buckets of fruit that leave your mouth puckered like having taken a hit from a boxer. I could barely manage my glass and didn't grab the bottle for a top up.

Drank this at Michael Caines at Abode in Manchester. Paired with Scallops and roast sirloin.
Popped and poured.
Deep, dark red in the glass.
A nose of lovely forest fruits
The palate just didn't match the nose - was somehow a bit subdued. Didn't really open up much during lunch and felt a bit too acid heavy with the meal. A nice bottle, but unfortunately the Lebanese benchmark is higher than what this wine delivers.

Popped and poured standing outside Planet of the Grapes waiting to head to a Rugby World Cup Game.
Visually a light almost burgundy style appearance.
On the nose its deep red fruits and some earthy tones.
On the palate - it started off as a bit of a brute - the tannin is very strong, but with a good balance against fruit and acidity. After a good 30 minutes of swirling in the bottle - it opened up and wow... it turned into a thing of beauty. A bit of a harsh score to be fair, but can easily grab the extra 2 points it deserves.

Strange tasting this one. Went to les halles de quercamps near Calais, France. The owner had this to taste, so we did. In a magazine review it had scored just under Cos. Not sure how long it had been open probably at least 24hrs, maybe more.
Deep dark red, great nose of forest fruits. The palate had a great balance slightly dominated by fruit but with a good grip of tannin. Grabbed a couple of cases as it was a fantastic bargain and really keen to find out how it behaves after 10 years. Good showing of a bordeaux.

Drank at Rhubarb in Edinburgh. Paired with scallops and venison. Popped and poured. Strong NSG. Not much evolution throughout the evening although it did open a little from the initial pour. Deep red colour. Nice nose of red fruits. The palate was enjoyable with the food. Tannin has subsided a bit. This has got plenty of time ahead of it.

Lovely. Drank at Champanys near Edinburgh to partner with Steak. It was their last bottle. Dark red with a hint of purple. The nose was lovely dark forest fruits with a good hint of smoky-ness. On the palate the tannin has smoothed out, with a great balance and integration of acidity and fruit. There is drinking perfectly. A consistent chateau - always been impressed.

Opened to go with BBQ spare ribs. Dark red/purple almost ink like but without the viscosity. Decanted it and drank over 4 hours. For me, this is far too young, the wine barely opened up, tannins and acidity were just too harsh. Score has potential to increase but it wasn't near what I expected.

Decanted for 20mins - couldn't wait any longer. Deep red with a touch of purple. Bottled showed 13%...
Sniffed, first taste -umm... what's happening here.... it was a acidic, very acidic.... back to the BBQ. swirled the glass and on the second taste the acid had started to integrate - phew.
After a couple of hours this was humming. Tannins had subsided and now it was a solid Bordeaux with good fruits of the forest flavours. Strange start but needed some time to settle.

Popped and poured. Dark red/purple almost ink like in the glass. Initially there was certainly some green-ness on the nose and palate, but after a few hours this did dissipate. The alcohol (which I think was 14.5%) was fairly noticeable in terms of heat. A nice drink, just didn't blow my socks off.

Company Wine tasting (The Hide): Clear purple/red - nice balance of oak and fruit - could have kept drinking it, but compared to the Spanish Rioja it was single dimensional in its complexity. Good effort but spending a few £ more gets you a big step in quality.

Company Wine tasting (The Hide): Medium/ruby red - slight touch of oak but not much fruit, medium tannin - the palate had a touch of green. During the tasting, we had a "Countdown" style conundrum which came up with "retarded" - no reflection on the wine though!

Company Wine tasting (The Hide): Light Golden colour - on the nose a fruit floral affair, you can smell an element of sweetness which makes it light and refreshing, until... on the palate - in comes the flavour with a big citrusy/grapefruit hit. The taste lingered oh so long... lovely.

Company Wine tasting (The Hide): Nice golden colour - the nose there was bundles of fruit. On the palate were tropical fruits but woah... the oak. Maybe my palate is note a fan of american oak - but it became more and more noticeable. Interestingly the group absolutely love this... I'm more neutral about it. Probably unbalanced in the quality/price war towards price.

Company Wine tasting (The Hide): Head to head against Gusbourne from 2009. Sorry to draw comparisons, but the Gusbourne was a lightweight like a Perrier Jouet. The Nyetimber had an additional level of complexity - touching on Bollinger in style. A hint more biscuit which I love. Fabulous champagne and a wonderful start to the tasting.

Popped and poured to pair with roast lamb. The colour was deep red/purple and a strong nose of fruits of the forest. On the palate the tannins and acidity are still dominating but it paired well with the food. For my tastes, this needs a several more years to calm down but will be a nice drink thereafter.
Considering the price this can be picked up - great value for money!

Drank with dinner at Berner's Tavern in London. Popped and poured

Nice bottle and paired well with the vension main course. The lingering memory is of fairly high acidity compared to what I was expecting. There was good fruit and a touch of tannin, but the acidity had become unbalanced, hence my score. With food it balanced out okay, but I could taste it again post meal. I understand there can be bottle variation so it would be interesting to try again.

Was a bit too warm on opening which may have dulled the taste. Poured into a decanter at a restaurant.

Nice wine - just didn't sing at all - very subdued and could have been caused by the warm conditions.

No score given - need to try a different bottle.

Decanted with dinner. When this poured, it did look like a burgundy with a slightly opaque look to it.
This is the best I've tasted so far from the 03. Wonderful aromas and the tannins and starting to mellow on the palate and gain in complexity. It just continued to evolve throughout the evening in the decanter.
Unfortunately this was my last bottle, so my journey with this wine ends here... what a shame.

Drank slightly chilled around 10-12 degrees. Lightly blush appearance and nice on the nose. On the palate there is a hint of sweetness, not quite off-dry but a verging towards a Spaetlese. Matched our barbeque perfectly and had some good acidity to offset any richness. Tasty drink and very good value.

Decanted at La Trompette. Was a great partner for our food combinations (fish and chicken/guinea fowl.) It was worth decanting as the wine continued to evolve throughout the evening and opened up. Light to mid yellow and the age was definitely noticeable. Slightly buttered and oak was evident on the nose although well integrated. A fine drink.

Decanted for an hour and it was definitely worth doing. Strangely not much debris in the bottle.

Nicely bricked colour with an orange hue in the glass. Red Fruits and fruits of the forest on the nose. The palate was slightly biased towards acidity but it paired well with food which softened the acidity.

Popped into the Decanter to test my suspicions, was 09 a good year and is Sarget still good value. On all accounts, yes and yes in my opinion. The nose was lovely and fruity (even when pouring into the decanter I was catching the aroma.) Lovely red berry fruits on the palate and a good balance of tannin and acidity. This will drink now (it matched perfectly with some cheese and crackers) but I'm hoping it will continue to evolve for some time.

Poured into a decanter to pair with Lasagne. Nice Bordeaux blend with a fairly heavy extract fruit presence on the nose and palate. Not quite sure how this is evolving, the tannins are present but more integrated than previous. Got a few more bottles and need to give it a while to try the next one. As things stand probably a bit expensive for the quality of the wine.

Thanks for a wonderful gift Toby. Popped into a Decanter on New Years eve to match with paella. Immediately on the nose was a heavy scent of lush strawberries. As it aired in the decanter the wine evolved and kept providing a wonderful aroma and palate throughout the evening. Good balance of acidity and fruit and the tannins had been slowly eroded but still had a bit of bite. Fantastic drink and a great way to celebrate the new year.

Drank this with Turkey pie post-Christmas. First bottle I couldn't really taste because of a cold. Still had a bit of a cold when I tried the second bottle. Splash decanted. Mid red with some transparency, no evidence of bricking. Nice ripe red cherries on the nose. The palate was smooth with a hint of tannin. Not exceptional but a good drink.

Popped and poured into a decanter. This doesn't feel like its 11 years old. Its showing 14.5% alcohol and looks, smells and tastes a quite new-world. Its got a solid dark red/purple appearance in the glass. On the palate the tannin is not very noticeable. There is a good balance of fruit, acidity and tannin. Would be very interested to follow the evolution of this wine.
