At twenty-one years of age, this is holding well and not showing diminution from aging, but certainly not likely to improve any further. The fill level, foil, label and most importantly, the cork, were all in ideal condition. The cork was starting to be slightly soft, but likely still has several years of integrity left.

This was dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, bright tangy black cherry and black berry fruits accented by notes of anise, tea, spice box and hints of dark mocha, caramel, and leather.

2013 Lornano Chianti Classico Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese

I must admit, I usually find Chianti (at least "everyday" Chianti within this price range) rather insipid, okay with the right food for casual dining but that's about it. Chianti Classico is a step up, but this example from Lornano is on a different level altogether as far as inexpensive ($18 in Ontario) Chianti goes, largely due to its complexity and verve. Strawberry and herbs leap out of the bottle, and what's immediately remarkable is the freshness of the fruit, with cherry, raspberry, and cranberry joining in, along with savoury vanilla, baking spice, black pepper, and leather -- a characteristically Tuscan mix. And yes, this accompanies food really well (lasagna, in this case). But the drawback and the potential are the same here. Even at over four years old, it's still extremely acidic (too much so without food), freshness leading to sharpness and a rather firm, tannic (and admirably long) finish. So give it time. There's a lot here, a lot of potential, a lot that impresses well above the Chianti mean.

2/8/19, 6:00 PM - Luckily they released it again February 2019 at the LCBO in Ontario at 17.95 CAD. Agree with your comments that it is still tannic or ‘closed’, good now and could be great later, a bargain for the price
