1/3/24, 6:59 PM - 2005 is a big intense tannic vintage, and an outlier. I'd expect the 2010 to age differently.
11/17/23, 5:12 PM - leoville Barton was typically made with huge tannins and 2005 was a year of bold, voluptuous and long lasting wine. Id be very surprised if it’s anywhere near mature now.
11/19/23, 9:36 AM - LLC is an excellent wine, and in good years performs like a first growth. Barton is made differently with huge tannins and can be harsh without enough age, especially in a vintage like 2005. The st Estephe offerings tend to also be bolder and heavy tannins, but imo Montrose is the best of St Estephe and like LLC, rivals the first growths in the best years.
6/18/23, 11:17 AM - Give this one a longer decant. It’s excellent.
6/6/23, 9:58 PM - I actually kept the bottom quarter for 5 days in the bottle with vacuvin; tasted delicious on the 5th day.
3/20/23, 2:07 PM - The 2020 is a very intense wine; not heat damaged.
3/21/23, 6:05 AM - Roncevie parcel is near the highway, directly below Chambertin itself. Actually Roncevie is split in two, one being a GC villages parcel, the other half being regional. And surrounded by excellent 1ere cru parcels.
3/9/23, 3:14 PM - Leoville Barton typically has huge tannins; this one is still a baby.
3/7/23, 1:13 PM - This wine gets sweeter after about an hour of decanting.
2/11/23, 4:10 PM - Also found this one improves about an hour opened.
1/17/23, 12:01 PM - Sounds like it was had too young if it opened up after 4 hours
3/2/22, 11:34 AM - Seems like it's opened way too early. I haven't tried '16 Mouton, but tried a couple other 16 Bordeaux from. sPauillac and St Estephe, which were very closed right now. Glad you enjoyed it, but I imagine it could get much better.
1/27/22, 8:41 AM - I opened one of the 2018 as soon as I bought it in 2020. At that point it was still a fresh pinot, not aged or evolved, but delicious in its own way. I suppose they might have started closing up by now, my remaining case is lying down for 10years+
4/24/21, 8:49 PM - I can’t really think of any other $30 wine at this quality level.
3/21/21, 5:11 PM - 96 points @ $85 seems like pretty good qpr.
3/19/21, 6:12 PM - Not a Pinot...
3/5/21, 5:48 PM - Why do you feel it is at peak? A good quality cab should be able to last longer than 6 years.
1/30/21, 7:34 PM - A lot of Bordeaux wines drink ok for about 1-2 years after bottling and then close up for a few years and then start opening up later. But it varies by wine, vintage, storage, and so on.
2/1/21, 11:27 PM - I've never drank a first growth that was less than 5yrs old (and rarely less than 20). So I don't really know how they compare in the early years. I suspect they behave the same. I've had young Pauillac/St Estephe 2nd/3rd growths and they do often close up, and expect the first growths to behave the same.
1/8/21, 10:31 PM - Like cheap and jammy? Or starting to open back up...
12/23/20, 11:14 PM - The 2018 is drinking well now...
12/18/20, 3:03 PM - I kind of don’t think if Graves as left bank. I guess it is technically left of the Gironde, but always thought of Graves and Pessac leognan as having pretty different characteristics than the bold wines of pauillac, st estephe, Margaux, St Julien etc, and also rather different from right bank.
6/26/19, 11:18 PM - Tried the last bit on the third day and surprisingly tasted a lot better.
10/28/18, 7:34 PM - I brought the bottle with me, and the restaurant ended up comp'ing the corkage since they struggled with it (and I think probably ended up filtering out the cork). I paid $250 for the bottle which was part of a cellar sale on a bit of a gamble. Worth the novelty of it I guess, but not the best bottle.
