Yes, this is a great wine. Glowing, shimmering, purple-ruby. Effusing floral, cedary, herbal perfume, even in its youth. Polished and woven mass of chalky tannins, bright acidity and intense dark fruit to age over decades. Bought and opened in Christchurch as a pre-Xmas indulgence, with no regrets. The stash in Melb will be left to slumber. (96+ Superb wine)

Didn't have a chance to taste this in its year of release so this was already cellared for a year.

A beautiful burgundy colour, polished sheen, still obviously youthful. Vanilla and aniseed are the dominant notes, but overall a muted nose. Hopefully it develops with age.

The palette on the other hand was surprisingly smooth and mellow for such a young wine. Beautiful red berry flavours, a hint of mushroom, chocolate, blackberry, boysenberry. Some nice tanning structure to give it some body. Looking forward to seeing this develop.

Tasted at the same time as a 2015 and 2020 and this held up against the 2015 quite well given its youth. Lots of promise. Acknowledging it's had the benefit of an extra year in bottle, it also shows a lot more potential than the 2020 at this stage.

beautiful structure-youthful - cant wait for the older bottles. have revised my score - really it is the different times you drink this and the other wines you taste the day before! Thanks for the comment, Pinotcchio

Ex cellars recently at a very good price. Great to see Diam (30s) being used- there’s nothing more frustrating than a beautiful wine screwed by a faulty cork and blind loyalty to tradition.

Still too young. Raw, clean, and tannic. It’s a very pretty wine from the outset. Dried roses pull you in to a just medium weight entry. It’s high acid, very clean and crunchy with red cherry skins and mixed dried citrus peel.

Char and smoke pull from early in the middle to black tea, mushroom, and leaf matter to tannins that I can best describe as tar and savoury teleggio mould. green peppery bitterness (rocket leaves?) grabs through the still quite raw and bracing tannins, unadorned by oak, provide a great frame for everything that came before it.

Young, just slips in to excellent on my scale with upside potential. 93. I’ll drink my other bottle in 3-5 to give those raw tannins a little longer to soften.

8/13/21, 6:10 PM - Thanks, sorry I deleted the comment after doing my own research as felt like a goose for asking the question. My cellar is very top heavy with 2013 Barolo quite by accident as I was cashed up at the time. It now seems the 2013 Piedmiont Wines in general are very good but real slow burners in need of cellaring so good to get feedback of the 2013's along the way, much appreciated

Coravined into a Zalto Bordeaux.

Dense nose full of amarena cherries, lavender and tar. Complexity beginning to emerge, but needs time to become more airy and elegant. On the palate, this is tight and the tannins are fierce. High acidity.

Nose is 93 points, palate is closer to 90 (but will improve considerably with time).

Probably the most approachable of the 4 Cru's I have tasted so far Pora, Ovello and Rabja with a transulcent color red cherry and cedar box with classic rose petal. This is in my opinion behind only Asili, Rabja.. probably after that Ovello and Pora oh yeah Monstefano..
  • Pinotcchio commented:

8/14/20, 7:03 PM - I ordered Asili, Montefico & Rabaja on historical preference so this note is encouraging. thks. Rabaja usually slow to come together but always on my list

This is one of my first tries at an Aussie Cab from supposedly a region where this wine does well. Well, I was not very impressed. It had a very unusual flavor that was pretty off-putting. I will withhold final judgement after a few more. I have 5 more bottles, and I hope they are better.

1/22/20, 4:28 PM - Agree with your comments. Very strong on the capsicum, olive, tomato leaf flavours.I think it showed better when first released so maybe an early drinker.

Beautiful wine. Medium bodied, nice bouquet - albeit reserved. Red fruits on the palate; raspberries and cream. A persistent seam of fine grained tannins and cool acidity make it hard to resist the next sip. Among the best examples of Australian merlot. Outstanding.
