Vi kunne absolut godt lide den. Men prisen... Jeg har svært ved at forstå den. For at retfærdiggøre den skal der være et stort potentiale, som ikke viser sig endnu.

Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux Tasting in Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France): Very dark wine, but starting to show some age on the rim.
The nose is medium+ in intensity, lots of dark fruit and some prunes.
On the palate it is medium+ bodied with medium acidity and soft tannins. It is quite earthy.
This is a very good wine. It is mature, but has some time to go. For me to rate it higher it would need a bit more of everything, especially fruit and acidity on the palate.
2/3 = Good to Very Good

5/21/13, 12:12 AM - Good question. I find it difficult to assess given the - relative! - low level of acidity for a top Pauillac.
It is clearly also a personal question relative to how you like you wine.
That being said unless you like your wine decidedly on the old side, I would probably view it as a wine where you should be happy if you drink the last bottle at any time from 5 to 10 years from now.

La Rioja Alta (La Rioja Alta, Haro, Rioja): Spicy red fruit, some soft oak influence. A roundness here without tending to flab. A density to the fruit too. Lots upfront. Currently a slight hole in the late mid-palate though this fills with air. Long. Spicy acidity. Vibrant. **(**) possibly **(**1/2)
  • Sjontoft commented:

    5/14/13, 2:34 AM - Dear Simong,

Thank you for your tasting note. As with many other ones you write it is very good.

I have a suggestion. You use stars (**(**)), which I presume is for the quality.

Would it be possible for you to describe what those mean and possibly put a guide to the star-system in your public profile?

    Sjontoft

  • Sjontoft commented:

5/15/13, 3:29 AM - This is super helpful.

If I were you, I would add this little guide to my profile. Just a suggestion. Thanks again for replying and for a good note.

Edit: Which I see you have now done. Thanks again.

This 12 years old Rioja Alta's wine Reserva 904 is about to pass into maturity. Let me give another chance to taste it...thanks to Sjontoft I clarified the meaning and also upgraded the rate.
  • Sjontoft commented:

5/1/13, 4:13 AM - Do you mean that it is about to pass into maturity or that it is about to be too old?

UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel - Chicago, IL): The Lynch Bages of recent vintages have seemed more sappy, modern and hedonistic than the lovely wines of yesteryear. This fits into that hedonistic model. Fruit was sappy, gummy and dark. Just didn't have that sense of place and was over oaked and smokey. Disappointing.
  • Sjontoft commented:

4/15/13, 3:56 AM - 74 Points? Even if it may have changed style, is that really the correct score? Assuming that the wine was not flawed as such, were there any flaws in the winemaking?

Does your review indicate QPR or the pure quality?

A decent bordeaux quaffer. Everything in place, tasty but not terribly interesting. Only after the first 2 hours, the nose opened more to more interesting lily and floral notes.

  • Sjontoft commented:

12/18/12, 12:20 AM - Thank you for the tasting note. Does the 6 year comment mean that it needs 6 years from now or from the vintage. That is, should one start drinking it late in 2018 or in 2014?

Nice Pauillac with flavors of red fruit, leather, and dark berry. Mouth feel is ever so slightly underwhelming. Acidity is balanced. Finish is reasonable. It's a good Bordeaux. It won't light you up and make you feel like you won the lottery. Instead, it will make you feel like you're an accountant being a little extravagant tonight. It's a wine you will like but might forget while trying to decide about the dessert, all the while you are thanking god for Bordeaux wines wondering when you can have a really good one again.

After 6 hours of decanting... Juicy plum with undertones of cardamom and anise on the nose. Opens with smoked raisin and rich minerality that settles in for a dark, strong, finish.

Very rich nose of Australian earth, forest leaves and flowers, and a hint of curry. You would think that it would be full-bodied given the preamble, but it's surprisingly mellow with a concentration and core of crushed berries, oak, and graphite. It's a fantastic wine that makes you think because of its layered complexity and it leads you to expect one thing but experience another albeit in a pleasantly surprising way. Drink now until 2017
  • Sjontoft commented:

12/1/12, 10:09 AM - Interesting. Quite different from my experiences. How was it stored and how did you treat it from opening till drinking if I may ask?
