Wow, this is a big boy! This wine is absolutely delicious. 18 months in French oak is well integrated, but not shy. Layers of vanilla on top of plush red fruit give a round and velvety mouthfeel. Full, big, rich, fun. Open this up to impress your friends who are stuck on Napa wines. If you’re pairing this with food, stick away from spaghetti and pizza. Save this for a roast or a romantic evening.

What a fun wine! Loads of pineapple and tropical fruits on the nose along with chalky, slate-like minerality. Hint of petrol. The minerality is strongly carried through the palate in a way that might have a Sancerre drinker intrigued. Med+ acid. If this was served to me blind, I’d call dry riesling. An entertaining wine. Bring it to a party or the dinner table.

Perfectly preserved in the caves of Beaucastel with this œnothèque bottling. Was bummed that I left my decanter at home, but it wasn’t necessary! Loads of raspberry and blueberry jams. Powerful, with finesse. Once it opened a bit more, garrigue and olives made an appearance. The finish gave way to a sort of apple pommice. Interesting. Silky tannins with balanced acidity could keep this wine going for a bit longer, but it’s currently in a great spot!

The wine is dead. Would make a nice gift to someone you don’t like.

In a really great place. Raspberries and cherries with an element of spice. Black pepper. Clove? Mouth-watering acid. Just enough tannin to make it interesting. Drink it now, but it could still hang another year or two and still be good. Damn tasty!

Campfire, woodsy nose alongside ripe dark cherries. Full and even mouthfeel. This is a big Pinot with ever-present oak which could be overbearing for some. Concentrated cherry flavor on the palate that finishes a little medicinal. I wouldn’t pair this with any delicate food. This one needs a steak. Or just drink it alone. This will please your cab drinking friends.

Full mouthfeel. Fresh cherry and ripe red berries. Balanced acidity. Classic Tavel.

Served with a slight chill and cured meats, this was perfect. Very fresh and lively acidity. All the red and dark berries turned into a bottle of wine. Acid is high, but not volatile. Med- tannin. Tastes of the color purple, with just a bit of funk. Slight stony minerality. This was consumed rather quickly, but was evolving a lot towards the end of the bottle.
