4/16/24, 7:19 AM - That's a bummer. DD is one of my favorite producers. How long have you had this bottle?
4/14/24, 4:55 AM - If you have a case of it, I would say open one. If you only have a handful like I do, I would wait another five years. The optimal drinking plateau will be a long one.
3/19/24, 12:28 PM - Bravo. It sounds like the bad bottles that some of us have had could be from sub-optimal storage unfortunately. My notes are from what it's in front of me. I've had several great Brunello from 1990. Glad yours was showing well.
3/1/24, 6:29 AM - I had a similar experience a few years ago, but a few years before that, a bottle someone brought was magical. I thought it was just me. Bottle variation?
2/26/24, 6:07 AM - It's so tempting to open one now, but I think I will mine starting in 2030. Maybe find a off-vintage to enjoy near-term.
2/10/24, 12:03 PM - I'm glad the 2005 is still drinking well. Big fan here. I bought several bottles when they were released. It's hard to leave them alone because they're so good.
1/20/24, 7:29 AM - I’ll probably open my only mag this year.
1/18/24, 12:20 PM - I'm glad this is still drinking very well. It is one of my favorite wines all-time along with the '96 Rayas Pignan. How long have you had this bottle?
1/16/24, 10:36 AM - Thanks for the note. I don't have too much experience with Soldera. I've had this vintage about 8-9 years ago, and it made me think of Rayas. Of course, they are different grapes, but the way both wines dance on your tongue it's magical. Unfortunately both these wines have reached stratosphere levels.
1/15/24, 4:03 AM - @NMILAUIt’s popular because folks like giving them scores of 90 and higher. Lol. 🤔
1/7/24, 5:55 PM - Glad to see your bottles showing well. I’m think that perhaps not ideal transportation conditions may explain the bottle variation.
1/7/24, 5:54 PM - For Ridge Monte Bello, Dunn HM, Diamond Creek, a minimum of 20-25 years IMO is needed if you want to understand the hype. Just had a ‘91 DC Volcanic Hill, and it was brilliant.
1/4/24, 2:34 PM - Sigh. I only have a mag left after sending the other mag to auction. Your note sounds similar to the 2005 I had several years ago. RIP Giafranco.
1/4/24, 2:31 PM - Thanks for the note. I think you may enjoy this even more in ten years!
10/30/23, 3:31 AM - It reminds me of at least one bottle I’ve had. But I’ve also had very good bottles. Perhaps bottle variation?
9/18/23, 4:19 AM - Thanks for taking one for the team. It may come out of its slumber in 2030 if using history as a guide.
8/8/23, 6:46 PM - I brought to a blind tasting a few weeks ago, and everyone enjoyed it. No one guessed right - German Riesling, Sauternes, to Tokaji. Sadly it was my last bottle.
8/5/23, 1:56 PM - First of all, only 94 pts?!I’m glad this bottle showed well. It’s similar notes to what I had 7-8 years ago. Interestingly, it was a Rayas dinner, and we drank the ‘96 Reserve along with the ‘96 Pignan blind. Both were flawless in my opinion, and we couldn’t tell the difference. Sadly, prices are now out of my range.
7/11/23, 6:04 PM - Provenance?
7/14/23, 7:50 PM - Hopefully it's just an anomaly. Other recent tasters don't have the same experience.
7/3/23, 6:27 PM - There is a reason this wine fetches $$$$$. Thanks for the note.
6/18/23, 6:23 AM - My guess about provenance is Unknown.
6/15/23, 10:27 AM - I will hold you to this prognostication. LolInteresting though. I’ve had Barolo from the 60s that were 50+ years old and were delicious, if not drinking well. But those were old school methods using neutral barrels.
6/10/23, 4:50 AM - Sounds like an 80-pt wine.
6/5/23, 7:50 AM - Love me some DD :-)
5/29/23, 7:56 PM - 2030 window?
5/11/23, 7:43 AM - Interesting notes in 2023. Did you all buy these from auction. I can't imagine the bottle I had 5 years ago would be over the hill today.
5/11/23, 4:33 PM - Thanks for the info. I don’t have any other bottles, but it sounds like the bottles from auction were badly stored or damaged during transit.
5/4/23, 7:14 AM - "Would you wager that some of these BAMA wines may show better young?"It depends on your palate. Based on my limited experience it seems that way. I'm not sure if I would make that declaration necessarily. Also, what do you consider 'young'? 2010 may still be young for Bordeaux standards, but it's at least 10 years aging in bottle and has many more years ahead of it. Prior to the mid-1980s, Bordeaux wines (and most other wines) were aged in large neutral oak or cement vats, and the best were still great 30+ years after bottling.
4/2/23, 7:37 AM - Have you had these bottles since release? Decant? Given the current prices on these, I will let my bottles sleep a bit longer.
4/3/23, 2:53 AM - Thanks for the context. Sorry that it didn’t show well. Major bummer for the price.
2/4/23, 6:16 PM - Sounds like a fake or badly stored bottle.
3/29/23, 7:15 AM - Leave the original comment. The bottle was off. Besides, I don't want more people buying this wine. Lol
3/25/23, 4:55 AM - It could be or could have been a storage issue. Or the wine is in a dumb phase which these wines are known to do.
3/20/23, 1:10 PM - I have no doubt it is or will be a phenomenal wine. I'm glad it showed well for you! Sounds delish! I've always wanted to try this wine next to a Soldera. Sadly, I don't have both for the same vintage.
3/7/23, 4:55 PM - Thanks for the comment. It's almost two decades. What do you think a Rieussec in its prime will be like? I am concerned that there will never be enough acidity. I've had this wine since release, and I've so far preferred it then.
3/7/23, 6:30 PM - Great to know! Thanks again.
2/27/23, 6:52 AM - Not sure if it is heat damaged if the bottles were purchased as part of six-pack or case. Bottle variation is a possibility. The 1998 is notorious. However in the post-Covid world, one can't rule out the impact to one's olfactory senses. It will be interesting to see if the OP's notes for other wines show similar experiences after getting the virus.
1/23/23, 6:31 PM - Dang it guys ... you're making it very hard to keep these bottles laying down lol
1/25/23, 12:28 PM - If I only had a case, it would be a no-brainer opening one now! Hmmm ... wasn't that a song in Wizard of Oz? lol
12/19/22, 12:21 PM - Thanks for the history lesson. That's fantastic.
10/21/22, 5:59 PM - I’m glad this showed well. Did you decant? If this is the same as the ‘89 or ‘90, then we’re in for a treat for the next 10 years.
10/14/22, 5:15 PM - What is a 97 pt wine taste like? :-)
10/14/22, 6:38 PM - I'm just razzing you. The note was fine. The wine sounds like it's in a fantastic place.
8/5/22, 11:42 AM - Try again in 2030 lol
6/21/22, 5:57 AM - I agree. Next time, more air!
6/8/22, 2:30 PM - That’s a bummer. Sounds like a heat-damaged wine before making it to your cellar.
5/1/22, 7:21 AM - Glad to read that this wine is still drinking well. It will be bittersweet when the last bottles of his wines are drunk.
3/29/22, 10:50 AM - Thanks for the note. I know patience will be rewarded some day for this wine.
3/29/22, 7:39 PM - No doubt! I had a '89 3 years ago, and it was one of the best wines I've had.
1/21/22, 10:41 AM - Interestingly you gave it 90 points. I'm confused.
12/30/21, 7:22 PM - There are several factors. If your palate prefers Napa cabs, you may have opened it 10 years too late. LolFrom your description, the wine sounds like it has years ahead of it.
12/20/21, 6:43 AM - Not surprised either. Great chateau. Given the rising prices, I'm waiting until it is open for business. Long decants aren't the same as old fashioned ageing in the bottle.
12/20/21, 6:55 AM - Expensive curiosity. Unless you have a case of this wine, I would just taste vicariously through others!
11/7/21, 1:17 PM - Sounds like a storage issue. Unfortunate. But a great wine weekend nonetheless!
9/28/21, 7:07 AM - You seem to have terrible luck with this wine. Consecutive pre-moxed bottles at exactly one year apart.
9/1/21, 4:22 PM - Great to hear from you Maire. Hope to see you and Paul soon too. Just let me know! I'm around. Sent you a text btw.
7/23/21, 2:51 PM - That’s what I figure for the 2005s. Thanks for taking one for the team!
6/24/21, 9:56 AM - Hey Cliff, I think the Dag I brought was a Pur Sang, maybe 2004, which the group thought it was terrific. Sadly, I did not post a note about it.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
