Was better 2 years ago. A touch of prune flavor has replaced the dark rich fruit

The bottle is as big and heavy as any I've seen, lead me to believe I was about to drink a heavy hitting intense wine...this is the polar opposite. I noticed immediately on the pour. Light body almost looked like a pinot in the glass. A very delicate and interesting wine. May be the perfect opening bottle for a night of wine indulgence. I will revisit the rest of the bottle tonight (vacuum sealed and in the cellar). The fact that
I am excited to taste it again and see if there is any transformation makes me think 91 may be a little low.

mixed views from the 6 that tasted. Ranging from an extreme dislike to WOTN against Bevan Tin Box, Fortunate Son, Merus, and Robert Folet Claret

Pop and Pour, initially very tight and a clear step back from the bottle of '16 Pott we have just tasted. After an hour the wine had opened and was as good as the Pott. Pure preference on which bottle one would select. Both are outstanding wines.

Just back from a Napa trip and opened this last week with the group to preview some of the tastings. The reserve has much more structure but needs to be held in the cellar for a few more years. I will hold off until at least 2-3 years before opening.

Miguel and Maayan were great hosts and seem to make a great team. Both bringing different attributes to the wine. the regular La Pelle cab is a great QPR.

I was very disappointed. Tones of prune and olive killed the wine for me.

No rating. People either loved or hated the wine. I enjoyed the wine but understood the dislike. A very tannic wine, earth and aged fruit. If you have a friend that loves French wine this is the perfect wine to open.

I am upset with myself for opening this!! The wine was dominated by HUGE dark fruit. I would expect the fruit would integrate more with a few years of patience. If you have bottles wait for another 3-4 year!!!!

A wonderful wine that should improve. Mid-Palate the wine faded, a slight acidic tone seemed to hide what I think may reveal it self in a few years. It was outperformed by both '09 Scarecrow and '07 Hundred Acre Ack.

This is in a transition from "classic napa" to more of a grand cru in the tasting profile. When drinking next to '09 Scarecrow this had less fruit and more earth tones. No longer a huge, thick, and indulgent wine, it has evolved into a more refined and gentle wine.

I am much more in agreement with RickyT12 review from 8/26/17.

Tied for WOTN with '07 Hundred Acre Ark. 7 of us voting and the other wines were '12 Schrader CCS, and '15 Carter Grand Daddy.

This has more life left in it but I would expect the fruit to start fading over the next few years. A Classic Napa cabernet. Flavors of rich dark fruit and mineral blend into a near perfect experience. The only reason I resisted 99/100pts was the lack of a WOW moment. This wine lived up to all expectations.

Drank along side with 2 other wines and was my WOTN. It is the most "Bold Napa" giant red wine I remember mike producing. It teeters on the edge of becoming a modern Caymus but has enough depth and roundness to keep it from falling over the edge into a fruit bomb/sweet mess. Over the next couple of years I would expect the black/blue fruit tones to fade, allowing the wine to truly shine. (93-94 with potential of 95-96).

This will be a polarizing wine.

One of my wife's favorites. An old world style cabernet. Earth tones (mineral/graphite) and acid drive the wine with fruit and dark chocolate in the background.

DO NOT OPEN YET!!!! This is a tight monster. Wonderful nose but the firm tannins his the core of the wine. I would wait until '20 if not longer. No rating but think this will age well and potential of 95-97.

I am finding out that the theory of "larger bottles age best" is true! This was outstanding and absolutely crushes all of the '08-09s I have tasted in the last few months (Hundred Acre, Rudd, Ghost Block single vineyard, Kelly Fleming, Jaquelynn, etc...). A classic Mike Smith wine that wowed the crowd.

WOW! Maybe this is influenced from me drinking several '08 and '09 wines over thanksgiving, but this was great. Very fruit forward and indulgent. JLuch1 did a nice job with the tasting notes, I fully agree.

Mixed reviews. I was very happy with the wine but my wife, who typically agrees with me (wine! LOL), disliked the wine. She compared it to wine you would drink at a large wedding.

I am hoping this is in a dumb phase. It was served along with Fait Main LPV '15 and Myriad Elysian '14. Came in a distant third place. A harsh edge wrestled with firm tannins and a touch of dust. I would wait a couple of years before opening.

Drank side by side with '15 Scarecrow. 6 hour slow ox but this was drinking well at pnp. This is a big wine that delivers rich and plush flavors of red and blue fruit. It was a close call for WOTN, Scarecrow edged in out 3-2. Very happy with the wine and looking forward to opening another bottle in 6-9 months. I didn't find any of the dust that others have referred to.

Extremely delicate, refined and classy wine. Slow ox for 6 hours and then drank over 3 hours. Poured a 1/4 glass to take the wine below the neck line and it was closed wine a harsh tannic edge. Over the next 2 hours the harsh edge left and the wine started to open.

Not the powerhouse I was expecting. It is the rare find, a wine that is both gentle and soft yet has a ton of depth with a long finish. I will wait for another couple of years before opening my next bottle. Reminded me of a good year Materium.
